Such more extreme scenes are also a financial venture in the end. The girls who shoot such scenes naturally demand a higher fee. And for multi-person scenes...you need more people. And they also want to be paid. In the end, 50% of viewers steal the scene online, part of rest isn't interested in extreme stuff and another part doesn't know the girl because there are hardly any stars left in 2024.
A lot of money was invested and what is the profit? - Perhaps just as much as if a simple b/g scene without extras had been produced.
Because a lot of credit card companies and payment processors over here are run by, or influenced by, Christofascists on a crusade against porn, free speech and our 1st amendment. Also obscenity laws and invasive age verification laws. If mainstream American studios and content creators could do more extreme stuff, they would. And it would sell just fine.
For anal, Mike Adriano is still the king. Also, Kink's Everything Butt is the best for lesbian anal. Far better than LP's lesbian productions, despite LP doing crazier stuff. Evil Angel also still does mostly anal. Plenty of American studios/companies do a ton of anal. For DPs, check out Maestro Claudio's DP Diva. It's all DPs with top American talent. And gangbangs in America are very expensive to produce, so that could explain why there really aren't many studios that currently specialize in those. Gangbang Creampie is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. DF Network also does a lot of gangbangs and blowbangs.

There is an overall decline in extremity across ALL porn, not just american, because of new credit card rules in the wake of ExodusCry. Back in the early 2000s, it seemed like production companies (especially gonzo) were constantly pushing the envelope in a competition making sex acts not only more hardcore, also more outrageous. It was as if anal wasn't enough, so there was double-anal; and double-anal wasn't enough, so there were double-anal creampies. Double-vag too. I was thinking, "Yikes, it's challenging enough to get one up there so 2 is beyond my imagination." Why the pushback where this might not be some common after the early 2000's? Not sure how much this has to do with it, though there was an HIV outbreak in the porn in 2004 leading to a self-imposed industry moraturium on production for 2 months. This was the last known transmission of HIV within the hetero porn industry. HIV was transmitted by you guessed it- anal and double-anal creampie scenes. There have been performers who got HIV more recently, though it's disputed if they contracted it in porn.
Some obscenity charges during the George W. Bush era could have also made producers hesitant to produce really hardcore content.
After the early 2000's, it seems like porn companies are still pushing the envelope- though not so much in terms of sex acts and more in terms off plotlines such as fauxcest. It seems like there has also been an expansion of more sensual and erotic type porn such as Lust Cinema, PinkLabel.tv, SinfulXXX, etc.
Counter argument would be that while DPDiva is good, they release ONE scene every 1 to 2 weeks if you're lucky sometimes going on multi week without releases.
Theassfactory is back but only doing a scene or so a week. JJ's main site releases more but still you get one or 2 DP scenes a month if you're lucky.
Now the Evil Angel videos site is dead but when they release the movie previews on the 14th ish of each month you'd be LUCKY if there was ONE DP scene amongst all the movies they release in the next month.
The vixen studios come out with a scene a week or so and sometimes you get DP scenes and recently they came out with a whole slew of DP/gangbang scenes which is amazing but this is really the exception not the norm.
To be fair outside of analvids studios in Europe there is also not the DP/group content being made elsewhere either. I can do without the piss but I have to say there's not much DP being made in the Americas at all...

In the end, it's not the quantity that counts, but the quality. I can live with little anal/dp content, but then this content should at least be good. I like anal, but I don't like watching anal scenes with 50 or 60 year old directors. And I like dp scenes, but I don't like seeing the same 2-3 below average Joes in every one of them.
I would therefore not say that US Porn is soft porn. More of these scenes would not make US Porn more "extreme". US porn suffers from bad male talent. Of course there are the good ones, but they have also switched to OF in these days.
Thanks for adding to my post. I didn't say Evil did a lot of DPs. I said they do a lot of anal. The only time I see DP from Evil, it's either from David Perry, Proxy Paige or Rocco Sifreddi. bergdc, although I'm certainly not in the industry, I'd like to submit a theory here to address your question, and see if folks who are closer to the industry here would verify it or refute it:
The economy here in the US is still problematic. Prices remain high although inflation has generally slowed. The prime interest rate is higher than it's been in years. There's less disposable income to go around.
Couple this with the increased proliferation of "tube sites," the continued presence of piracy, and the steady rise in prominence of the "fans sites" led by OF, and I actually don't blame any producer from wanting to exit this market and open up a chain of bakeries.
For any media company operating in a bad economy, the most sound operating strategy is typically to scale back and refocus its efforts around where it believes the center of the market to be. For porn, I would venture a guess that the center of the market eschews anything that may involve the presence of a rope.

Why is McDonalds so successful (even though it's disgusting food), why are certain movies so successful (even though they're actually rubbish) - the more undemanding your non-premium product is, the greater the number of people it appeals to.
