I have to say that, although I find a lot of porn arousing, the extreme hard core stuff turns me off.

On the other hand, some of the most erotic scenes I've ever seen were on network TV. They were erotic for the same reason that a woman in a filmy gown is erotic: the fun is in the teasing and the imagining.

By comparison, a lot of porn is about as sexy as a corpse under a kleig light.

True, there is network or R that is sexier than a lot of porn these days. No argument there.
But the presence of hardcore DOES NOT have to mean that is all there is to see in the movie OR that controversial themes are only legitimately explored if you DON'T show what they're exploring. On the contrary. Off the bat, some examples:

1) The People v. Larry Flynt (R): Its theme about championing the common man's fight to show pussy, this film did a disservice by being a complete pussy about showing what was ACTUALLY at stake here. What Larry Flynt got shot for was NOT pictures of Althea in a bra and panties. Fucking SHOW what it actually was. Oh, and please, If you're even thinking aobut going into the "whattabout the children routine," save it and stuff it. The reason I know this in the first place is from having actually seen firsthand what LF was doing at the time, me and every other 10-year-old with a heterosexual dad. Not everything is the Internet's fault, you know.

2) Spanking the Monkey. If you've seen this, you may think you understand why the young dude was freaked out--but you don't. You didn't see anything, so it's too easy to deny that nothing ever happened. Now if the actual fact of penetration was all out there and you couldn't deny it, you would empathize it vicariously, whether you liked it or not. Ain't that what cinema verite is all about?

3) Pretty Baby/Blue Lagoon/Endless Love. Now, I confess that I saw only the latter two, because they were released when I was old enough to have a chance of sneaking into R-rated movies. It certainly looked like it was Brooke Shields fucking on camera, and it might as well have been. If it were, this pedo bait would have been yanked off the market post haste, and we all would've been spared years in the '80s listening to Brooke yammer on about her Reaganistically intact hymen. Cunt, I hope it's calcified. Quick, who did more to egg on genuine pedophiliac sickos: Traci Lords or Brooke Shields? Ask any female in their age range. I'm one of them.
