Other reasons I have discovered from interviews and memoirs:
* tickets to Coachella (Ashley Blue)
* to piss off mum and dad
* to pay for a drug habit
* because why not? (either because they are super punk rock or because they are already living in a counterculture situation--a runaway or whatever. This is how I would classify Sharon Mitchell and Jeanne Silver)
* they are an exhibitionist
* they got sick of working minimum wage in a job that was emotionally and physically taxing
* they knew someone who did it, and thought they would be good at it
* they enjoyed watching porn and thought they would be good at it
* they were in an abusive relationship and that person encouraged them to do porn (and then took a percentage--aka. a suitcase pimp)
* they enjoy and respect sexual performance/art
* they grew up in a family that did sex work and continued the family tradition
* they idolized a performer
* they were stripping and met porn performers who were feature dancing and decided to give porn a try (Stormy Daniels and many others)
* they were already escorts and wanted to increase their economic value by branding their name
* they wanted to become mainstream famous (this is more common back in the day, but nowadays performers may believe they can initiate a crossover into social media stardom)
* they identify as a feminist and/or sexual radical and want to prove a point
That's all I have off the top of my head. There are assuredly many more, as with any sector of work.
