There is a new article on Jezebel that implies that Wikipedia is uploading the real name of performers on their stage names page. It seems that IMDB is also guilty of this and I think that doing something like that is just asking for trouble because the only thing that protects the private life of these performers is the fact that most of us have no clue what their real name his. Once you know their real name and you have a general idea of where they live then does it take a lot of time to find their exact location? The majority of us will never use that info for anything else but a more rabid fan might take it upon him/herself to visit said performer or worse a mentally unstable person could cause serious harm to the performer and her family.

I guess it depends on how active the performer is on social media and random chance of someone they know/knew in their personal life finding out they do porn. You've also got police and other government employees where it won't take much of an abuse of power to find such information.

Huh? Wikipedia always states performers real names. Why, I don't know.

Why did every article on Stormy Daniels have to state her real name? Can't we just assume all performers use a stage name and leave it at that?

^ Always would imply "without exception" and that's not always been the case.

I can think of no reason other than to shame or "out" a porn actor/actress why the media does it. Most of the time, they only give the real name of a mainstream celebrity or politician when there's legal action involving them. I'm not saying it's never been done in print media or on TV but I've never heard the former UK prime minister referred to as James Brown and who calls the actor perhaps best known for playing Rocky Balboa "Michael Stallone"?

Eh, it's no different than saying "Cary Grant, born Archibald Leach."

^ With the exception of Wikipedia, how many articles refer to Cary Grant that way?

Even if it was the same act, are the consequences the same? Doubtful, otherwise the policy here not to divulge a porn performer's real name on ADT would not be in place.

Any profile of any person who uses a nom de plume or stage name would include his or her real name. It's generally uncontroversial, so a mainstream reporter may not know the implications of it for a pornstar.

^ Yes it is standard, but I ask why?

My theory: we like to think of performers as artists, who are doing what they do purely for their love of the craft, and fame is just a by product. Telling the world that they changed their name is like exposing that they just wanted to be famous from the beginning.

No, it wouldn't. When people write about Michael Keaton, they almost never call him Michael Douglas. Very rarely does an interview with Drake call him Aubrey at an point. And I would argue that the more annoying thing about both sites isn't that the info shows up there (it's publicly editable, so if the info is out there it has a chance of showing up), but that they make it so difficult to actually take the info out because it's not fake. If a performer contacts Wiki or IMDB and says they don't want their legal name listed, then the name should be taken down, simple as that.

Following on from this, why do these sites have to state performers' age/DOB?

There was a case where a performer sued such a site for this, claiming it cost them a role.

In porn, I've read some directors are obsessed that performers that portray teens actually be teens, and will not use a performer if they find out they are not.

I didn't get back to her before the story came out. I guess I was one of the dispassionate volunteer editors she was referring to.

I certainly enjoyed the irony of an article lecturing about privacy from a spinoff of Gawker Media.

I believe that we show at least know about the pornstars to a certain degree...If some does not know that this individual is a pornstar, then they should let the person know that they are dating.I am not saying that they...meaning sites like porn wiki leaks were doing, like putting their phone numbers and children names out there...I think that is wrong,But I would like to know if somebody has a disease...for my health sake...That is all I am saying, not everybody is not going to who pornstars are in the world...I am just addressing my opinion...Like I said...That's all I am saying...

Huh? You're saying that anyone who has ever participated in porn should have their real name publicly available in case someone wants to date them as they may have an STD?

So a tested pornstar real name should be available a doubdful hooker doesn't , I mean do you also want a list of anybody who escorted?
Should be also a list of those who were sexulally active above average?
you know all these are an equal risk as a pornstar maybe even greater a porn star tests regularly and so do their working partners , real like women and men not so much

^^^ If you are "just addressing your opinion", you should have the courage of your convictions to expand upon it and not run away from saying something contentious.

It's no secret that there have been industry shutdowns due to an STD outbreak but I'd put money on there being far fewer infections per capita in the porn industry than outside of it because sexual health screening is non-negotiable in the industry if you are engaging in sexual activity with another partner so if anything, a "civilian" is more likely to have an active STD or even worse, one they are unaware of.

Are you truly showing concern for your own health alone or are you actually using that concern as a thin veil for the prejudice you apparently show toward porn performers under ignorantly false pretences?
