Hi All, Newbie Here I have always loved buying porn Dvd’s as I like to experience almost everything sexual e.g. Women Squrting, Peeing, Creampies etc. I have owned a dvd player for 7 to 8 years since the first combi came out (VCR+Dvd) luckily I did not buy a Full HD Dvd player or recorder as it seemed to be a fly by night machine (here one minute gone the next). I have recently bought a Dvd Recorder as all of the Full HD Dvd Players and Recorders have been taken down from the shelves in the UK unfortunately as BlueRay have won the fight. My question is will all porn producers move all of there Dvd porn films onto BlueRay discs? Or will they just put there latest porn films onto BlueRay discs? In the past I have seen quite a few porn Dvd’s not being manufactured anymore and I have my eye on quite a few porn dvds with sexy Cytherea on squirting as she is the queen of squirt in my eyes so if the porn producers were to put them on BlueRay discs then there would be no point in buying them on Dvd. It would be a bonus if they did put all the dvd porn films onto the BlueRay discs as they say it looks realistic as though you are there in person watching women getting shagged (I Wish!!) but if they wont then I had better buy them now while they are still on Dvd as I have heard you can play your dvds on BlueRay players and recorders. Thank you for reading this and Many Thanks to the members who reply to it. Kind Regards, CuriousGuy
It's pretty obvious that so far the adult industry is not very motivated to put their movies on BR especially compared to DVD many years ago. Maybe it's too expensive and they think DVD is good enough or something.
It's only worth releasing them on Blu-ray if they were shot in high definition. Movies that weren't or only have standard definition masters remaining would be a waste of money on Blu-ray. I think that from a few months back forward all major releases will appear on Blu-ray as well but I doubt it is worth going backwards for companies unless they still have HD masters or film masters and want to take the time to remaster them for Blu-ray.
I'm sure that for most companies, anything that was shot in HD will eventually be released on Blu Ray. Some companies that have older titles shot on film may also release them on Blu Ray.

no but eventually all will be available for download in HD
But you upgraded from VHS to DVD right? So why not upgrade now also from DVD to BR? And yes there's a big difference between VHS and DVD but there's also a big difference between DVD and BR if done right!

I think the big difference between transferring stuff that was on VHS to making it available on DVD was that you can't play a VHS tape in a DVD player, but you CAN play a standard DVD in a BluRay player. So standard DVDs won't become obsolete as long as BluRay players will continue to be compatible with standard definition discs. As was mentioned by Flash, if it wasn't shot in High Definition, it's not going to look "life realistic" just because it's put into a Blu-Ray format. Something shot in High Def and put on Blu-Ray will look amazing if it had good production values.
Porn collectors don't download, it's against our nature. Just like you real book fans won't go for these ebooks. Some things are not the same and never will be. And in order to download and watch HD movies you need a powerful computer, a full HD monitor and a very fast connection, too much pain in the ass.
Really? I'm sure there is a market for some older Digital Playground stuff to be rereleased on BR. Not sure about an ordinary gonzo release from last year.
Certainly not a lot of people will "re-buy" a run-of-the-mill gonzo flick in Blu Ray if they already have it on standard DVD but for someone shopping specifically for Blu Ray porn, it's a different story.
I'm glad someone mentioned that BLUE RAY DVD players will be able to play standard DVDs too. I was under the impression they could only play BLUE RAY discs. For me personally, I'm in no big hurry whatsoever to go to BLUE RAY. I think the standard DVD stuff looks great. When stuff went from VHS to DVD I noticed a big difference and the fact that DVDs are just so much smaller have less problems and it's easier to fast forward, scan, freeze etc., made it worth making the switch. In my eyes the jump from "regular" to HD Blue Ray isn't nearly worth the price of the DVD player and the higher priced movies. Right now DVDs are pretty cheap, the DVD players are cheap and the quality seems just fine to me. When I go into stores that display BLUE RAY players playing BLUE RAY movies I'm not seeing that much of a difference.
yes but the "done right" part is where the problem lies. many people are probably not even able to tell the difference between DVD and BD if they don't have big enough TVs. so for many customers the difference maybe is not as big as VHS to DVD used to be.
Yes i upgraded from VHS to DVD but a lot of titles that i have on VHS never made it to DVD and i have not the time nor the money to transfer (digitize) them to DVD. Even though VHS tapes age very fast they may still work if some of those DVDs are long inaccessible due to bad production. So, right now i´m sitting on a shitload of VHS tapes that i almost never watch again. When i switched to DVD only i bought some titles on DVD "again". And now i´m supposed to buy yet another techniq ? If my DVD player dies on me i may buy a multiplayer but the problem is if i want to "enjoy" the "whole" "BR feeling" i would have to upgrade every single piece of equipment. It´s the same with HDTV ... most people don´t even know what it is. Just the other day i watched a channel on free-TV (i only have a non HDTV capable receiver)...they said "this show was presented in hdtv" Yes, ok, but what they didn´t mention that you can only see hdtv content on a hdtv capable tv. They transfered it down to SDTV (on that channel i was watching). The average Joe may have thought "o cool now my telly can receive hdtv also" You see, i´ll stick to DVD as long as possible. What worries me more is ... what´s gonna happen to all my stuff when i´m gone ? Cube Edited by - cubesnake on 7/16/2008 6:01:47 AM
Personally, I am more than happy with DVD quality. When I upgraded from VHS to DVD, I didn't have to buy a new TV-set for it. Right now, watching HD footage on a non-HD TV makes no sense, so Blu-Ray requires much greater investment if I am to fully enjoy it. As it happens (and personally) I don't need greater quality of video when it comes to porn. I watch all porn on the computer including DVD discs, and the quality is more than enough for me. Internet distribution is ideal.

There are shitloads of porn from the 1980s and 1990s that hasn't even been put out on DVD. Why would anyone think it will all be put out on Blu Ray?

+1 There are a few posts from other posters that state just how i feel but i did not want to quote 3 or 4 other posts so this post here sums it up pretty good for me. I'm very happy with DVD! I like to have the DVD which i can hold in my hand. When the prices of Blu-Ray players and movies comes down a bit i may look to upgrade but not right now. Edited by - satchman23 on 7/16/2008 10:20:59 AM
Where do most people put their big HD TV and their BR-player? In the living room. Where do most people watch porn? In the bed room. How many people do own two big HD TVs and BR-players? Not that many I presume. I watch porn on a midsize SD TV. I'm fine with DVD. Edited by - juha on 7/16/2008 1:55:20 PM
The PS3 is pretty cheap and it's the best BR player out there. But I felt the same way like you guys like a year ago, I also thought I would stick to DVD but I noticed almost all new mainstream movies are being released on BR also at good prices, not to mention some tv shows are also being released on BR and I consider this an evolution I really cant' miss, being a big movie fan that is. Btw, if you doubt the power of BR check out the difference between the DVD and BR version of Cloverfield, it will really blow you away!
I don´t doubt it at all :) but i wonder what comes after that ? And it´s always the same with content on a new system ... people need to be made addicts with stuff you don´t get on other media that´s the trick Cube
I personally can't wait to start buying my porn on BR. The only thing stopping me at the moment is the price of the disc themselves. I think once prices start to come down to sub $30, that'll be when I make the switch. Having now seen quite a few scenes in HD, I believe that's the way porn should be heading :)
I agree with Damn Small and juha. I hope all Porn comes out in Blu but I also wish the prices drop. Porn is also watched mostly in the bedroom which most people would not have an HD set up. No offense, but I really do hate the argument that SD is "good enough" that is ignorant. Check the other blu-ray thread where I state the 6 reasons people do not switch to Blu-Ray.

Mike - if they're actually using replication companies that are paying the licensing fees to Sony for Blu-Ray, then they won't be ABLE to go as cheap as Blu-Ray and actually make any profit at all. The current master licensing fee is $5000 per disc. Of course, I know companies that aren't paying any standard licensing fees either. But yet, they get upset when people pirate their product. It works both ways.
True enough but Sunshine just released a 24 hour blu Ray comp that they're apparently selling for the price of a new release standard DVD. I would expect more product like this finding it's way to market soon.
So Tricia, When does Evil Angel plan to expand into the Blu-Ray market? I can't wait to experience one of Jay Sin's movies in Glorious High Def. EMS providers for ALT Porn!!!! Edited by - ems_guy on 7/18/2008 7:53:19 AM
That is appalling Tricia. It's blatant gouging. No recording technology is worth that. I hope yours and every other studio boycotts Blu-Ray until they reduce it, preferably to zero. You could sell high definition material on the web until they do. Sony will make billions selling players anyway. They have absolutely no excuse to gouge license fees. Seems like Sony will never learn. They killed Betamax and DAT with lousy marketing and greed, perhaps blu-ray will go the same way.
Exactly. The problem you have is twofold: 1) the sheer bulk of product that began to flood the market in the mid-to-late 80s. Is there really that much demand where consumers would buy a buy a hundred copies of 15 to 25-year-old films at $40-$50 a pop? Certainly millions of people rebought their Beatles and Stones albums on cd in the 80s and 90s, but porn doesn't move in those numbers. And as another post indicated, that mastering is tres expensive. I think you will see companies like VCA, Vivid, et al, come out with packages/box sets of some of their most popular films and/or stars on BR. (For example The Best of Debi Diamond or Ashlyn Gere, or a Shane's World 1-8 box set, for example) Deep Throat, Debbie, Misty Beethoven et al, will probably make it onto BR sooner or later (if they haven't already) but otherwise I just don't see too many singular films getting that same kind of of treatment in the near future. 2) The expense of Blu-Ray players and discs combined with the fragile economy right now need to be taken into consideration. All signs indicate that the 2008 holiday season is going to be a bloodbath for retailers. On the other hand, sales of big screen TVs are way up as people are planning on spending more on home entertainment. On the other other hand, sales figures for 2007 show that dvd sales have flatlined. Before porn goes any further into Blu-ray I think they'll want to see what happens when some of the big boys in mainstream hit BR. Star Wars, The Godfather, Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Star Trek movies, etc etc. When sales figures for those items come in, studios mainstream and porn will have a better idea about what the future holds. Right now though? Nobody (including me) knows what the hell is coming!
I think what the people producing Blue Ray movies should consider is trying give consumers more bang for their buck with their DVDs.If they want me to start considering making the switch they need to pump up the BR movies with tons of extras and use up some of that extra space they claim the BR discs has so much of. Since BR can hold so much more data I'd like to see them put an older movie from their library along with the new movie. I want to see multiple angles. More trailers. Longer Behind The scenes. More bonus scenes. Make me feel like I'm missing out on something other than being able to see every zit, pimple and stretchmark on the girls.
DVD is good enough. Maybe BR for blockbuster-type movies on a fancy HomeTheater system. But for porn, TV shows, and "regular" movies, DVD is good enough. I will pay extra for porn to get custom/unique content. I will not pay extra for porn to get better picture/sound.
Sony doesn't give a shit if porn companies make product on Blu-ray anymore. They've already beaten HD DVD. They don't need porn anymore. They're going to make their money off of mainstream companies. Maybe if more porn companies had the foresight to release discs in HD DVD, which had no licensing fee, a year and a half ago, HD DVD might have won the format war and the porn industry would be saving $5,000 per title (unless they plan on stealing from Sony). Oh, well. The industry made their bed. Now they get to sleep in it.
Fortunately it's a bed that gets remade every five years or so, and porn consumers have always been willing to be early adopters of new technology. I suspect that video on demand will put most disc media and video stores out of business within ten years. I have already bought and watched high definition content from web sites, but I have no immediate plans to get a blu-ray player. All we are waiting for is for someone to put together an interface that a computer-illiterate can use, and establish a simple, broad based payment system to work with it. Once it becomes possible to "hire" any movie for $2, without driving to a store, only a handful of people will bother paying $30 to buy a disc.
This format war isn't as cut and dry as VHS vs DVD or BR vs HD-DVD.( I'm still a bit miffed over the demise of HD-DVD) Money not picture quality will determine the victor now. I don't envision the average consumer spending $500 on a BR player and disc that average 25-40% more than DVD. Unless Sony and others reduce the price of players by 60% and get a bit more competitive with BR disc DVD will rule the roost for years to come. Digital downloads via itunes and Netflix will muscle in on BR turf in the up coming months as well. Just in time for TWC and other internet providers to cap monthly bandwidth. Greedy fuckers.

There is historical precedent to support your view. DAT was intended to replace audio cassettes. Sony sat on it for years because the record labels were frightened of it. When it was finally released, the price of players was outrageously high, and the public stayed away in their millions. They were quite happy with CD players and cassette tapes. Within a few years, CD burners made the whole concept of tapes obsolete, and DAT died before it had ever lived. Most of the public couldn't care less about high fidelity, in either audio or video. Just look at the way low-quality MP3 is displacing high-quality lossless digital audio on CDs. I don't know anyone who is buying DVD-A or SACD either.
With the Chinese manufacturers starting to build Blu-ray players, sub $200 players are just around the corner. As a matter of fact, Wal-Mart was recently selling a Magnavox Blu-ray player for for $299 and giving away a $100 Wal-Mart gift card with each player, for a net price of $199. I buy very few Blu-ray discs. But I watch an awful lot of them using Blockbuster's Online program. In-store rentals of Blu-ray discs are $1 more than standard DVD's. But there is no additional cost for Blu-ray discs through Blockbuster Online and I can return 5 discs a month to my local store in exchange for a free store rental, which includes Blu-ray discs at no additional charge.
This is a quote from their press release regarding this title. "The pricing of these DVDs will be on par with new releases instead of the ultra-inflated pricing on some other Blu Ray," the company rep said. "This will make them a great deal for the consumer and may be a way to get them to try this technology of the future. We are also offering a two-sided cover of soft and hard for every market." Maybe their PR guy should have consulted their sales person before releasing this statement.
Profound. I'm amazed at how the industry has success in pushing simultaneously: 1) compactness/portability/convenience at the expense of sound/picture quality, and 2) high-priced high-performance HT hardware/software; and (apparently) the same customers are buying both.
Many of the listed names indicate that this BR contains material that was neither shot HD nor on film. Putting material from the late 90s or early 2000s on BR doesn't make any sense quality wise. It has to be shot in HD or it has to be shot on film. And if it was shot on film the film elements must have be preserved. If the master is a Beta SP or even worse a VHS putting it on BR doesn't make sense.
It makes sense if they're utilizing the BR format to get extended running time of standard-definition video. Runtime is 24 hrs, and the boxcover makes no mention of multiple discs.
