Unless you have a multi region DVD player, you will not be able to play region 2 DVD's on your US region 1 player. Am I coming across as patronising?.....not my intention. Anyway, all is not lost. You'll want one that also converts PAL to NTSC format, since NTSC is undoubtedly what your TV can accept. I use a programmable (meaning that its BIOS can be updated and/or edited) DVD player manufactured by Sampo which is easily modified for region-free play (you run a utility and then it is a menu item). It has automatic conversion between NTSC and PAL and can output to a television requiring either system. You can search for other threads on this subject by searching the forums for "Sampo" - a lot of information has been posted here. I have the DVE-631CF model. ~ GaySatyr [Link]

Click to expand According to what I've been seeing in Area 450 - The Sampo Zone, the Sampo DVD players are becoming more difficult to come by. They don't seem to be producing their older players any more and they haven't released any new models to replace the old ones. Their next model is supposedly a $299 DVD +R/+RW recorder. [Link]
