| babaro Member 539 Posts 1/12 | Will Porn ever go back to being the extremely lucrative industry it once was before its financial downfall starting in 2007 ? don't get me wrong, they are not starving but you cannot compare the money made in porn today as opposed to 00 01 02 03 04 05 to me porn is making at least 50 to 60 percent less money than it used to. that's mostly cause of the free sites and piracy. ( Manwin is doing great of course ) what will happen ? how can it go back to being extremely profitable ? and will it ever ? | babaro Member 539 Posts 1/12 | you can literally find almost any scenes on xvideos - it's right at the click of a button... let's say i wanna see scenes from a certain company, director, female or male talent. well it's all right there, better than any sex shops and better than ordering online and paying 25 bucks for 5 scenes. you cannot expect the consumers to stop going to the free sites. the Government should step in and give the entertainment industries the tools to shut down all those free sites. as much as i like them it is KILLING the industry. it's pretty fucked up when you see all the "Stolen" content that's on xvideos it should be a crime just like Napster was. i'm a big lexington steele fan, well guess what happens if you type up his name in the site mentioned above. like 200 of his scenes pop up at the tip of your fingers.... i remember back in 03 if i was in the mood for a lex flick, i had to drag my ass to the sex shop at 11pm and cough up the big bucks. i feel for the industry and something needs to change but you can't expect the consumers to make that change - it's already bad enough that I'm not the one fucking all those hot girls on top of that I'm not going to try and find ways to spend a lot of cash if i don't have to Edited by - babaro on 1/20/2012 3:25:33 PM |

Of course the numbskull industry wouldn't have the wit to do do any robust market research to see if this is what its fan base actually wants. I suspect in the real world, far away from the world of the make a quick buck pornographer, people actually want DVDs. Most porn fans don't want to get their fix over the Internet. DVDs are a far more user-friendly technology. As I write this there are 300 people using this site, all probably some sort of geekish. I'm assuming ADT is one of the world-wide premier porn forums. 99.9% of the world's porn fans, at least, don't log on and even less contribute. We need to get over the idea that ADT members know anything about the wants and needs of the average porn fan, The web is NOT the way of the porn future - or if it is going to be, then the future pornstars are going to be virtual CGI-babes, not unreliable just out of the trailer park party girls. The current demise of porn is all about the crap content, cookie-cutter talent and low/no cost business models and not really about the capacity of web-enabled 'puter owners to access poor quality low definition pirated product via the Interweb. The industry needs to get its head get out of its self-victimizing asshole, come up with some original ideas, employ genuinely creative people, take risks regarding storylines/production quality (ie care about the product) and sell the fans something worthy of being paid for. Currently I'm getting most of my porno kicks from watching my old VHS tapes. ADT is not providing any service to this tired industry by reviewing recent releases, which (being well written and informative) confirm that all we're getting is the same old stale fare served up every day. |
| babaro Member 539 Posts 1/12 | back then every single idiot with a camera was making so much money... and if you knew what you were doing like Jules back then, you made even more money. I'm talking 6 figures every month, how many directors today can make that ? none when DVD and VHS were selling at the same time... $$$$$$$$ back then you could sell 20000 pieces, now if you sale 2000 your lucky... |

from 2000 to 2006 EVERYONE was making the big bucks. internet and DVD. companies like bang bros made an INSANE amount of money with bang bus during the first 3yrs it came out... and the DVD guys were also making 10 times more than what they're making now. ( not as much as bang bros but still ALOT of money compared to now ) the problem is not with the "paid" internet porn... there is plenty of money to be made for everyone.... the problem is with all the "stolen" content that's available for free pretty much everywhere on the net Edited by - babaro on 1/21/2012 2:43:10 PM |

It remains in the underground, where the feeling of art is closer to what it should be. The mainstream where everything is controlled by money makes for watered down art. I find it ironic that the underground art scene is thriving more than ever while the mainstream is reaching a slow decline. The mainstream is just struggling to survive and continue putting out bs in the name of control and money. |

| babaro Member 539 Posts 1/12 | my point is the more money they make, the more they can invest in their productions and the better it is for us. while most of what you say is true. an action movie wouldn't look as appealing if it was done on a cheap budget. the new MI3 wouldn't look as good if it had cost only 3 mil to make.... same with porn, a movie with a cheaper budget won't look as appealing to its fans and im not talking about the feature/parody crap either. strictly talking about GONZO. i wanna see more group scenes, BGG, orgies, reverse gang bangs etc.. but they can't afford it. i mean they probably can but they won't get a good return on their investment so they don't Edited by - babaro on 1/21/2012 5:46:22 PM |

as for the middle class being financially crippled, yes you are right and that's exactly what's been pushing them towards watching "Stolen" content for free... i don't know if you've noticed but the tube sites/torrent sites starting their ascension right when the financial crisis hit us... what a perfect timing... i mean what's there to explain ? they realized that hey had a new market/demand therefore they satisfied it by creating more and more free sites and they were right. it's common sense |

What I was trying to get at in my post and without overburdening it with specifics was that in an environment when money was sloshing around the economy a thoughtful business person would have banked the cash in anticipation of harder times. It may have been harder to see it 'inside the bubble' but for many people outside the US it was pretty clear that a credit-driven consumption boom was economically unsustainable. The general downturn currently playing out provides an opportunity for a new porn model to be developed both in terms of content (high production-quality features - not low rent cheesy parodies - based on intelligent and erotic story-lines) and means of distribution (exclusively DVDs so, ipso facto, any internet version must self-evidently be pirated and therefore possibly easier to prosecute/enforce against, with different cuts - the soft-core version, couples version, the 'anal' version, distributed through high visibility bricks and mortar outlets on the back of smart risque marketing - remembering that we live in a society where Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian didn't even bother to duck for cover following the release of their sex tapes). This won't happen because no-one actually banked the cash and no-one else will finance such a risky proposition. But innovation is essentially contrarian. Unlike a previous contributor to this thread I don't advocate more gangbangs, BBGs, orgies, reverse gangbangs or any other porn concept that treats the talent as the McJob casualized burger-flipper of the performing arts industry. On the other hand I advocate the talent being encouraged to develop their acting and general performance skills and being engaged on a royalties/residual basis. My crack about arrogant twenty-somethings was more about fratboy pornographers rather than the pornstars, but if the cap fits (and you would know better than I)... In answer to the question posed by the OP. In an economy where the macro-decisions were being made by lazy and short-sighted central bankers and financiers, lazy and short-sighted pornographers could become filthy rich for fun. That economy does not now and will not again exist, so "no, the Industry will never be filthy rich again". Over and out. |
