A few of them totally impossible. With the hardware I and most of my acquaintances have, it's far easier, as it's all supported by the distribution as is. Whenever I've installed Windows on a fresh test machine at work, it's been a flippin' nightmare to track down the right drivers. Luckily we have Ghost-images of all the installs now. And once a Unix clone has been installed, it doesn't mysteriously dump its drivers and refuse to recognise a regular COM port until you delete the entry in the Device Manager and have it rescan for devices. None of my older family members (or most of the younger ones for that matter) would have a clue how to install Windows either. They use what came with the machine. If^WWhen it breaks, they cry for help.
Personally I wouldn't want to be without several of the applications I have access to on Linux. They just work so much more smoothly and logically. Making my own database frontends will be much easier on Linux too, as I won't have to wrestle with Microsoft's retarded APIs. They've made some things cleaner with .NET, but their documentation for that is still utter shite, and if I have to switch from C++ to some half-way interpreted system, I'd rather use Java.
And I've paid for more Linux distributions than most of my Windows using compatriots have paid for their Windows upgrades. |

But with Windows I just don't understand, why they post that there is a security hole and then some days a virus or something is made to use this exploit only because Microsoft pointed at it. And the patch comes after it... .net Yeah I have to try it , but only because a garbage collector is anoying me. |
