...like I do? I've always been curious to know what women feel about porn. Do you enjoy watching the guy with his huge penis? Do you feel horny wishing you were the woman getting it?
Yes, really. I wrote my Ph.D. dissertation about it. No, I don't agree that women find it disgusting. Some women find some porn disgusting, and some men find some porn disgusting. Likewise, some women find some porn arousing, and some men find some porn arousing. Humans and porn are too diverse to make such broad statements.
I agree. Different people have different perceptions. If I were to say to someone I view it occasionally, they would laugh and make fun of me. Lets not forget how the word would go round quicker than sunset. Then the next moment you'll be the laughing stock of friends and family. I guess it's a private recreational pursuit. Something that is taboo and kept a secret.
It is a shame we can't have open conversations about it, yes. I have the "excuse" of academic distance, and many people take that opportunity to converse on the subject with me. Lots of people are relieved to have the chance to speak openly and maturely about their interest in the genre. ADT has a lot of smart folks with an interest in porn, so you have this forum as an opportunity to discuss the topic.
Do you come across many married men watching this genre? I feel it is mainly associated with single, lonely and depressed individuals. But I think society categorises these people as dysfunctional. Meaning there is something wrong about this individual as to why he views this material. But that isn't always the case.
You will find lots of people here who are married or have a partner and watch porn either by themselves or with their partner. The problem with finding out information about peoples' viewing habits is that people are often private about those matters and it is difficult to research. As a result, we have a media image of the porn viewer: single, male, and lonely. This has never been exclusively the case. In fact, in porn theater ads from the 70s, they advertised couples' rates and one theater even had a special section where couples would sit. (See Eric Schaefer's awesome essay in Linda Williams' PORN STUDIES).
I get depressed that it's so damn popular. It loses a bit of its appeal for me because of that. Porn was better before the Internet came along, when you had to actively seek it out.
