ehm..in my experience doggy makes the penetration deeper, for me it can even hit the bottom (which isn't very comfy). Also in my experience the G-spot are easier to hit from the missionary position. This do depends on how the man is curved, my bf are curved upward and that will hit me spot on :)
A shallower penetration is often optimal for G-spot stimulation. Missionary and cowgirl are preferred sometimes for this purpose. Doggy is beneficial when the woman's knees are pressed together, either kneeling on the bed with the man straddling her back, or in standing doggy with her body resting comfortably across a stable surface.
