Woodman's best work for Private?

Joey Starr Senior Member Still wanking after all these years. 8082 Posts 10/00	Posted - Aug 6 2002 : 6:26AM OK I don't like all his movies, and his scenes can be a bit too repetitive, but still for me he's one of porn's top directors (shame about his attitude with the girls). Now that he has left Private, can you tell me what were his best DVDs for that company in your opinion? Personally I loved "African Dream", "No Sun, No Fun" and "House of Love". Other movies like "Collector" and "Gigolo" had some excellent scenes but were a bit more uneven overall. Didn't like the Pyramid series so much and have yet to view the Tatiana trilogy. [Link]
ultradamno Senior Member Silencio... 12877 Posts 2/00	Posted - Aug 6 2002 : 7:16AM The Tatiana trilogy is probably my favorite (despite Tanya Russof already having had that awful boob job), followed by the Pyramids, Indecency 2, Kruger Park (although the colors on this disc's transfer are horribly washed-out), and Sweet Lady (nee Sweet Baby) I like House of Love also, though I think it's a little uneven overall. "The Tania Russof Story" sounds interesting, a bit like a "Private Life of Tanya Russof" before its time, I love the Private Life of... series. I have also checked out the reviews here on ADT and those make me think the Indecency and Cape Town series would be good titles to add to the growing "best of Pierre Woodman" section of my DVD collection. One that won't be mentioned here, because it was released by Hustler (bought post production) is Happy Birthday, which I consider Woodman's final Private-style movie. If you read Speelie's review here you won't be able to resist getting that one. [Link]

Many of these movies feature beautiful girls, but they are totally unclothed (no sexy attire, none of the extras) and laying in grass fields. I'm sorry, but I'll take Laura Angel, dressed to the 9's in well lit, indoor venues (e.g. Italian Flair) over this outdoor, shadowy, hiking attire look, any time! My second problem with Woodman is, as you put it Don, the repetitive nature of the sex. The same formula, different country. Anyway, rant completed. Peace... aybesea [Link]
Speelie Senior Member Fort Collins, CO 1191 Posts 5/01	Posted - Aug 6 2002 : 11:45AM It's funny Joey, I have almost the opposite view, I really enjoyed Collector and Gigolo (part 1, but not so much part 2) as two of Woodman's best, but found House of Love and No Sun, No Fun to be some of his weaker work (I only got Africa Dream recently, and my opinion isn't set yet). So you may want to take the following cautiously, but for what it is worth: I really enjoyed both parts of Indecency and both parts of Madness, and these are probably my favorite Woodman movies, along with Bitches 2 (but not Bitches 1). And as David kindly pointed out, I have publicly stated my fondness for Happy Birthday, which combines many pretty girls, hard sex, and gorgeous Ibiza locations (I have learned since I wrote the review a year ago that the movie was shot on Ibiza, not at Puerto Vallarta, despite being made at almost the same time as Madness, November 1999). I've seen a couple of older Kovi Private movies ("Julia" and "Sex Slider Shag-O-Rama") and they were quite disapointing. One or two outstanding scenes in each but too uneven overall. I traded "Julia" but kept "Sex Slider Shag-O-Rama" just for the scorching sex scene in the car! I have some early Private Adamo stuff on my "viewing waiting list" (so many DVDs so little time...) and I loved the Euro movie "Planet Sex" which was directed by Anita Rinaldi but with Adamo playing a major role in the team, as her assistant director I think. But from the little I've seen of his Private stuff, there seems to be much artsy coloured lighting and slo mo, whereas in Planet Sex you had artsy coloured lighting and slo mo BUT with very kinky and hot sex as well. I think what appeals to me in Woodman's directing is his visual style and the way he frames the scenes, he seems to have a very natural gift to film a scene in a way that makes the girl(s) and the sex look the best. I'm a very visual kind of guy I don't care much about a story or scenario. But I do appreciate the exotic locations, nice change from the same boring old sofas we see in so many gonzo movies... The first scene in Gigolo was excellent and the scene with Mercedes in Collector blew me away I have Madness (part one) stashed somewhere, must see it soon. [Link]

I've seen most of his releases under the Private Gold label and found a lot of the sex far too mechanical and cold. Having said that he has directed some very good flicks. fav.s include Fatal Orchid 2, Indecency 1 & 2, Madness 1 & 2 and the Riviera 1 & 3, haven't seen 2. What about that dude who directed Living in Sin? He seems to have only directed 1 film but I thought he did a bloody good job. Best Private Gold I'd seen in a long time. [Link]

But the first thing you'll notice is the Hustler dubbing in what might politely be called American colloquial (in place of Woodman's native French): this shows not only the target audience but a radical shift in Woodman's style. Condoms, lesbo, no more camera-ogling or multi-male on one girl, etc. Also the scenes tend to be claustrophobic and set-bound compared to Private. Others don't mind this so much, but I turned to Private in the first place to get away from American porn, so the Americanization of Pierre Woodman is a deep betrayal to me. [Link]

They've got to be two of the best looking Private actresses, with and without makeup. What other DVD's have you found them on? The actress list on Private's site just doesn't seem very accurate. I have Kruger Park and Best Russians and they're in both :-) I'd like to know which DVD Cecilia is in with that cute Swiss Miss outfit on the cover of Best Russians though. I've seen the JPEGs of some photoshoot, but a photoshoot usually comes from a movie... [Link]

Their scene together in Triple X 15 is in the Private Zodiac DVD. Cape Town 2 and Kruger Park are the only features they did, I believe, and the girls probably took the same train back to Russia. Weren't they beautiful though? (Can't remember seeing Cecilia with pigtails in that Swiss Miss outfit in any of the Triple X vids, but it's possible yet in the Stories 13 which I haven't seen.) I still like The Collector, Sex Therapy, Bitches 2, Superfuckers #9, Pyramid Trilogy (Especially #2) & Madness 1. I still haven't seen a lot of Pierre Woodman films but more than I've seen from anybody else. [Link]
