I'm curious: does anyone else here write their own sex fantasies/experiences/scenarios down, maybe while masturbating or (probably more rarely; I don't) for their partner to read?
One advantage is that this can be a very good way to hold off orgasm. Also, when you're done you can just rip it all up or burn it if you don't relish the idea of keeping what you write.
And there's no pressure for the writing to be of a particular quality or to restrict your topics. It's oddly liberating.

It's interesting that books of fantasies (such as Nancy Friday's collections) and stories shared online are very popular. Just wondered whether anyone 'bothers' to write stuff for *themselves*.

All it takes is a notepad and a 10-cent pen. You might want to try it, especially if you have enough time to relax and not hurry.

I love Nancy Friday's books. I wish she'd come out with a new one.

No, for me. But none of mine are originals. I just replay stories I've read from NF's books or other sources that are favorites of mine.

jayo: yes, I don't think I'm the only one to have found a Nancy F. book at home (Men In Love) and been first introduced to the grand old wide-ranging world of sexual fantsasy that way. I still have a copy, I think, somewhere. I very vividly recall a guy whose fantasy was a white family of three having sex with a black family in a basement. The whole thing about which of the horny black family picked who for sex (and what they did in that cellar! LOL) was a real "Oh, NOW I get it!" sort of moment. Almost like permission to enjoy fantasy and start feeling really sexually free.

You might or might not like NF's analyses and comments, but the hundreds of private fantasies and pieces of sexual history in that book are way worth the money.

By the way, it might be that some folks are afraid to write their most cherished fantasies or experiences down because they think that doing so will trap/'finish' that fantasy or memory for them.
Uh-uh. Not if I'm anything to go by, LOL. I am here by myself for three weeks while my family is away so I have time to, let's say, express myself and write a lot... far from exhausting the imagination I've found that I have, sometimes unintentionally, surprised myself by how the writing can develop from evening to evening. It can just take you deeper, rather than shove your imagination in a cage. You just need to go at it with abandon. That's my experience anyway.
Having porn playing and/or a cold beverage to hand might help you along.

Ah, well: it's cheap, harmless and -- probably -- good for the brain. Can someone in a white coat confirm this for me, please?

I don't.

I do enjoy reading them but as far as mine go it has always made for some very interesting pillow talk with Mrs. RT. The discussions that work out the details of making them come true (her's as well ) generally keep us both hornier than hell.

When steps are taken by either of us to make them a reality then it just kicks things up a notch.

At that point it isn't a specific fantasy anymore but rather a variety of different scenarios that we come up with developing out of it. The fun part is seeing which direction things go from the baseline that we established. Some of the most memorable ones have come from a completely different direction (others involved haven't stuck to the script... ).

Thanks so far, everyone. And thanks for those great links, Croy.
I'll be really interested to see whether other ADT folks write their own... and especially perhaps just as an intensifier for themselves rather than to be read by others.

I think that, as much as anything, what intrigues me about finding out is that masturbation usually has a prettty limited array of 'furniture' around it to help it along: there's imagination/memory, porn, toys, and maybe one or two other things such as putting on certain music. And yet the (to me) obviousness of writing it all down for your own pleasure seems a very easy and intuitive aid to masturbation. Given that most of us probably have much the same set of opportunities and resources when it comes to masturbating, I wonder whether others pick up a pen sometimes too. After all it doesn't really involve any complications or perils of being compromised in some way.

Hope that isn't repeating myself: just clarifying why I asked.

Actually it does. If your significant other doesn't know about/understand your fantasy writings & finds them some day you could be in big trouble if they thought it was a memory you were describing.

Of course if you had submitted those stories somewhere you could always claim "See, I'm trying to be a writer...."

I'm not trying to discourage you (on the contrary, good erotica is scarce. If you've got the talent, make the most of it). You just need to look at it from the angle of your spouse. In my case we both make up stories for the other's pleasure & screw like rabbits when we can do anything to make parts of the stories come true (even if it is completely innocent to the third party, we know what that comment to them meant....).

If your relationship isn't strong enough to handle the eventual exposure of these stories, it may be better to keep them as mental fantasies rather than written ones*.

I write erotica. Hopefully I'll make money at it someday soon. I don't write it the way it's described in the first post. I write fictional stories with characterization, dialogue, plot, the whole shebang. I start with the character first, then write what I think the character would find to be fantastic sex with fantastic partners. I write whatever makes sense for the individual person I've developed within the overall story.

I just change around some of the details of our playtime because I'm not imaginative enough create the whole thing...

(hopefully enough that others don't recognize themselves... (we really need a rolling eyes smilie here))

I agree with you, RT, but what I maybe did not make clear is that as soon as I'm done I destroy them *immediately*. No exceptions.
Leading on from that, I tend to write when I have the luxury of time and my own company. So it's not something I often have the time to do.
You're quite right about the peril if they're kept around.
As far as writing 'okay-for-other-eyes' erotica goes, I am a writer anyway and am seriously considering experimenting in this.

So, again: it's a moment-to-moment experience for me, the writing, not something I keep and look back at proudly/furtively later.

Thanks for the comments and concern. For me, the writing's just a discreet and personal part of the whole sex-life jigsaw, like ephemeral jamming by a musician that doesn't actually get recorded. DOes that make sense?

You shouldn't. If you are a writer to begin with then you have a leg up on the rest of everyone else out there. Hopefully as a professional you can look at your works somewhat dispassionately & know if it is any good or not. If it is, submit it somewhere. Like I said, there is a market out there & the current crop isn't that great (no offense Pagoda ).
Good
It's only a peril if you never talk to her. She has her own fantasies too don't forget. I'm not encouraging you to jeopardize what you have but you really should talk along the edges until you can go deeper into your thoughts.
So put them in a subfolder in your computer that she will never look in - "Redecorating ideas for Mom's bathroom" if nothing else. "1993 tax returns" will work as well.
It does but it is sad. To put it in perspective, some of my favorite albums are those where the musicians just jam & have a great time expressing their art. If you really are that good then keep them somewhere. It isn't like you can't be anonymous on the internet (for the most part).

Sorry, me again. I'll shut up in a moment. Just making it clear: when I said to RT that "you're quite right about the peril" of keeping written fantasies around, I was most definitely talking generally. In other words, I think RT has hit on a sound caution for anyone reading this and thinking of retaining their writing.
I wasn't hinting that it has been a problem for me personally because, as I say, I don't keep 'em.

Believe me, one thing that the internet has taught me is that I'm not the only one out there with my particular kink/fantasy. With 6 billion people out there, there are at least 60 people out there that feel as you do.

The trick is to convince them to spend $19.95/month to listen to your ramblings... To separate the wheat from the chaff is the job of your editor is it not? Make him actually earn his money for a change by wading through the drivel to find a good story (again, I'm going off the assumption that you actually know what you are doing...)

Trust me if it commercially viable, he'll let you know....

Excuse me, the Story Time Forum is just a little farther down. I can't believe I missed this thread until now.
Yes, completely. Much of what I write doesn't have a subject or even a direction, some would contend ALL of it is that. It just comes out.

As for destroying them, why not just join a forum, pick a name, say, I don't know, skargarden2 for instance, and see if anyone else likes them. One of the beauties of the internet is anonymity. That forum might even have a place to post such things, but I digress.

Writing things out is also a bit of a cleaner of sorts, for me anyway. If I have something just banging around in my head, shutup Pagoda, writing it down and expressing it on paper or on the computer is a way of transferring the thoughts from my mind. Because God knows, that's nowhere to keep anything important. Once there's a hard copy, ugh, that just slipped out, I swear, it will, not leave my mind, but not be at the forefront screaming, "look at me, look at me, talk about me and I'll fucking go away!"

Its also good exercise for me because mine comes out as poetry. Much harder to express. I think it was all those times I was hit in the head playing football without a helmet, but you never know.

But back to topic, I, of course, encourage you to write these out. If for nothing else than your own mental exercise. Maybe share some of them with the rest of us.

Redish - I get the hint. Thanks.
Yes, indeed. As you suggest here and elsewhere in your post, much of the writing is very personal and specific... but (and this where RT's encouragement comes in) I see no reason why I shouldn't tweak, change names, etc., IF the stuff I write for myself has an energy that it might be a shame to put in the garbage.

And what you said about getting stuff out of your head prompts me to develop a point that we touched on yesterday:
RT was right to caution about having one's work discovered and interpreted as memories by, say, a partner. But aside from that, the half-hour (or whatever) of actually articulating on paper what's in your head is the best of several worlds not just because it's easy, cheap, etc., but because even if you tear it all straight up you have turned your thoughts into a common, shared currency, i.e., language. That can be not only therapeutic but also, I reckon, exciting and liberating for some people. The choosing and stringing together of the words *is* much of the thrill. Similar to the kind of pillow talk RT (sorry to keep referencing you!!) was talking about.

Other areas of the jigsaw I talked about are shared, have no fear . But the simple practice of turning fantasy into prose or verse even when by oneself has a nice little tension/release to it.
