I'm an ER Nurse and 1 of 3 nurses in my hospital who's trained in rape & sexual assault. More often than not I wind up doing rape kits on some teenager or young woman who's been up to no good and whips up a rape story so that they won't get into trouble with mommie or boyfriend or hubby after being out all night. That pisses me off big time, since bogus stories like that make it all the harder for women who have really been raped to be taken seriously. But once in awhile one comes along that just breaks your heart. Yesterday I got a beautiful little 7 year old girl who had been forcibly raped by mommie's boyfriend. The little girl told her mother, who wouldn't do anything about it! So the little girl went on her own to her grandmother's house, and the grandmother brought her to the hospital. The poor little girl's vagina had been badly injured and the jerk had tried for anal as well. The process can be awfully difficult for a little child..they have to be in a room with me, a doctor, a social worker and a police officer, and once you start no one gets to go in or out so that we preserve the chain of evidence. Of course the little girl is frightened and I have to do my best to make her feel safe and as comfortable as possible. In this particular case, the little girl's father found out about it, and went and tried to take the mother's boyfriend apart like an erector set. In the end, mommie & boyfriend got fitted for a set of bracelets, the father got a pass from the cops and the little girl was admitted and is being taken care of. I came home and cried for 2 hours. I will never understand just what is happening in the diseased mind of someone who finds a small child sexually attractive. I'm not big on the death penalty, but in my opinion, there's someone who ought to qualify.
