I have ordered 2 adult DVD's from them in the past. One arrived safely but the second one disappeared without trace.

After about 3 weeks I emailed Customer Services and they told me to wait 8 weeks before they could take any action.

I email them again after 8 weeks to confirm nothing had arrived and I had no notification that Customs had confiscated it. They replied saying they could not take the matter any further and basically it was my loss.

I have never used them again since and don't recommend them to anyone. They are very slow, took over a week to process my orders and their CS is poor.

They may offer free postage as an incentive but I would rather pay to ensure my order is processed with the efficiency of US companies, especially those affiliated to ADT.

I hope you have a better experience of AdultDVDBoxoffice and your disks turn up safely, but I have learned my lesson.

You can find other comment's on them in the uk.media.dvd newsgroup.

Keep us informed of the outcome.

I think I may have had a disk from ADVDBO go bye-bye as well. It's only been just over a fortnight since it was posted, but a mainstream movie posted a week later has arrived, so I'm pretty sure the disk has been lost.

Up to date, the company has been outstanding with other mainstream titles, so I'm loath to let one movie spoil things. However, the disk did cost £17.

I think a little friendly enquiry is in order.

Me tooI just that I ordered 1 regular film and 1 adult title both were shipped on the same day (26/2/01)
the regular film arrived in 8 days later and the other title has yet to arrive. I then ordered a few more adult titles and a few days which shipped 28/02/2001 and another regular film shipped 9/3/01 which arrived 16/03/01 yet the adult titles have still not yet arrived . So to date I have still not received any of my adult titles but both regular films I ordered have arrived. So all in all I'm waiting for 7 Adult DVD's that over £100 worth of stuff so if they tell it my loss I'll not be bsat pleased.

I've had dealings with these people before, they truly suck.

They don't sign their emails and take a week to reply.

The short version was that after a couple months of bullshit from them I told them that they could refund my money or I'd get my bank to do it for me.

I got my money refunded.

anyone else who has been screwed by them, I suggest doing the same. If they fuck with you, tell them that your bank WILL get your money back. Then if they are still recalcitrant, GET your bank to get your money back.

It might be porn, but banks overall don't give a shit. They want to encourage us to use the cards so they make their cut. If you get ripped off, the banks are there to protect you.

I'm reluctant to get heavy with ADVDBO - yet - because as far as my order's concerned, it's only reached 21 days from the shipping date. I'll certainly set my credit card provider on them if I don't get the disk, but I don't relish the idea of ruining what has been an excellent retailer relationship over one disk.

I will say this, though. Over the past week I've been monitoring as many forums about DVDs as possible, and there seems to be a pattern emerging. At least three other customers are in the same circumstances - disk invoiced on the 24th or 27th and shipping confirmation on the 27th. It looks to me like a whole shipment may have gone adrift rather than disks simply being lost in the post. Unless a few have come adrift in a Royal Mail skip and someone's shouted "Hey fellers - look - porn!!" Just kidding.

We're quick to blame the retailers when things go pear-shaped, but I think in this case, the villains are the international couriers - either Aeromail Worldwide or TNT-International. I've been on to DVDBO bringing them up to speed on this one, so I'm hoping for some action.

further to my earlier posts in this matter I received this e-mail from ADVDBO todayHello,

as delivery times are generally between 7 and 21 days, we do still have to wait a period of 8 weeks after invoicing before we can consider the package lost.. but you will never go without your film or a refund.. you wont be at
a loss.. we just have to wait the time to make sure its not going to arrive, because most of the time packages that don't come in the usual delivery time, end up showing up by the 8 weeks. If you still haven't received the films by the time 8 weeks has passed let us know please and we can help you out

Sorry for the wait

Thanks

So I'll mail them again at the end of April i I haven't recieved them by then. I@ll keep you all posted as to how I get on.

thanks

DLC, you just got "Janice"d. I got one of those boilerplate babies this evening as well. Fair enough. I'll wait eight weeks as well. After all, it's a shipping problem rather than their fault. We'll see what response my sit-rep email gets and take it from there.

If only they were as on-the-ball as Ken Graham and the team at FiveStar!

I ordered my than 12 dvds in the past 3 weeks, 1 was shipped over 1 & half weeks ago and still no dvds!
I will not be ordering anymore, the only thing that made me by them was the free shipping.

DLC,
Thanks for posting the email they sent you. I have sent them another email regarding my lost order last year and to clarify what their policy is with missing orders. Luckily I keep a record of all my emails from retailers and checked what they told me at that time.

They seem have changed the wording of their recent emails.

Here's a what they told me:

ADVDBO:
Hello,
Delivery times really do vary. On average it takes 7 to 21 days to take delivery provided that there are no delays along the way. Sometimes delivery times can be quicker than the average and sometimes it can take longer. We do not consider packages to be lost until at least 8 weeks have elapsed from the day of shipping.

ME:
Hello,
Just a follow up, there is still no sign of my order and it is now over 9 weeks since shipping.

ADVDBO:
Hello,
Thank you for emailing us. Have you checked with your post office?

ME:
Hello,
Yes, I have checked the post office and they are not holding any packages.

ADVDBO:
Hi,
I have made some inquiries. We will be unable to reship your order.

I hope everybody here gets a better response than I did.

Ant_si - can you be a bit more precise about your order? Of all of us who are having trouble with ADVDBO, you seem to be getting it the worst.

When did you make your initial order?

When was it invoiced?

When was it shipped?

You should have all of that information on your system, and if you haven't, then you don't have much of a case against them. If you've only been waiting less than a fortnight for the disks, I suggest you take a deep breath and wait a bit longer.

My missing disk turned up this morning as well. It seems ADVDBO are trying out a new shipping route via Belgium and that's what caused the delay. Happy bunny again.

Hi JML

My first order was posted about 2 weeks ago, and i have had about another 8 in the past week. I always keep emails and invoices until the dvds have turned up. What do i do if they don`t turn up?

If you don't receive your order within eight weeks of the shipping confirmation email, then you get into contact with ADVDBO again and quote all the numbers at them.

However, you should remember (and this is a point all of us Brit customers overlook) that the problem is not really DVDBO's. If they do replace any disks it's at their discretion. They don't have to. Virtually, if not all of the etailers who use USPS Priority (ordinary airmail) to mail to the UK state that if the package is lost in transit it isn't covered by any guarantee or insurance. In short, if it goes missing you take it up with the US Mail or Royal Mail, and you probably won't get anything back.

DVDBO and all of the etailers I've used to date have offered an excellent service, with reasonable prices and quick delivery times. It may take two to three weeks for items to turn up, and there may be a slight gamble whether the packages go astray, but I'd rather work with these people than be ripped off paying $15-30 for UPS shipping on a $9.99 disk and be hit by Customs and a courier admin charge at this end.

Just to clarify, my problems with them were between Canada and Australia, not the UK. The item was not an adult title. The time period was closer to 10-12 weeks, the mistake was theirs and admitted as such, yet they still did not offer to fix the problem in any way until I eventually made repeated bank-threats.

They are quite useless to deal with, and I will never order anything from them again. Especially with so many other decent etailers out there like Amazon/Blackstar/Moviesource and 5-Star/ADN, there's no point dealing with people lots of others have problems with..

Hi guys, just thought I should add something here, I am in New Zealand ,and these guys have been my only dvd supplier since i bought my dvd player about a year ago. I have ordered about 11 dvd's from them a mixture of mainstream and porn, more recently over the last 3 weeks i have ordered 1 porn dvd per week, 4 in total with all of them ariving with no problemb whatsoever. The interesting thing here is that about 4 weeks ago i ordered a couple of dvd's from amazon.com and they have not arived yet. Just thought i should add this good story to all the bad ones.

I placed an order with these guys and it was shipped on the 28th march (i checked there website) and ive not so much as had an email thanx kiss my a*** or parcel (theyve took there money though)! Im never using these guys again, there way too slow, im NOT impressed AT ALL !

I placed an order at fivestardvd at the same time and that only took 5 days to arrive, what the hells going on..

Its not good business sense to keep your customers guessing. Ive emailed them asking them for at least some confirmation that my disc HAS been shipped, but aint heard nothing.

Ant_si - terrific news. Chuffed to bits for you. I knew you'd get a result eventually. If you could do me a favour and check the labels on the jiffy bags and tell me which route they took. I've had another disk in lengthy transit (nineteen days) which turned up this morning and yet again the fucker had gone via Brussels. It looks like DVDBO are sending all of their adult stuff by that route now, and it looks like two weeks is going to be the minimum for a package to arrive in future. If they came via Rotterdam, it might be that whatever's delayed them was why DVDBO switched to Belgium. Anyway, great news. Cheers.

Hi JMO,

Yeah sure thing, All of them came from Brussels. The strange is it that all of them have differnet dates but all turned up at the same time! Likes like they were waiting for all of them? I very surprised that customs let them though! Still unsure weather to order from them again.

There's no reason why customs shouldn't let the DVDs through, providing the titles comply with BBFC guidelines.

Adultdvdboxoffice ship via countries in the European Union, so there's no possibility of customs charging import duty and vat even if you order a crate load of discs. Unless ADBO enclose paperwork identifying themselves as a Canadian company, those charges simply don't apply.

Another advantage in this shipping method is that customs rarely open mail from EU countries. I believe they are supposed to check 1 out of every 500 parcels as a token gesture, but in reality it's far less frequent than that. You could quite happily order a copy of 'Fist Fucking S&M Bitches Who Deserve It-Volume 86' safe in the knowledge that the odds on customs intercepting the shipment are absolutely minuscule. If the discs are sensibly packaged (i.e. not labelled as DVDs) the chances of detection are almost nil.

Just for the record, I have ordered a large number of mainstream titles from dvdboxoffice and other Canadian retailers without any problems (so far). I don't mind waiting 2-3 weeks for the DVDs to arrive, not at the prices they are charging anyway. With the pound so weak against the US dollar I don't see much point in ordering from American websites.

I would consider ordering from ADBO precisely because of their shipping methods. I resent having to pay a single penny to the thieving scum at UK customs.

Ah! Brussels. (makes enlightened ah! Bisto! noise).

I strongly suspect you're right, ant_si. I think maybe the Sprouts do wait for shipments to come in and have some kind of posting-out blitz once a month. Not very efficient, but what can we do?

I'm still using DVDBO for mainstream titles (as they still ship in under a fortnight), and the occasional mucky movie (as their prices are still better than the competition). I just don't expect to see the disks for a month or so ;o)

As all the disks are individually posted, Customs can't touch them if the price is under £18 per item. It's only multiple disks in a box that they can hit.

M.B. -For mainstream DVDs I usually order from the following Canadian retailers:

dvddynamic
dvdboxoffice
video-now

All of these stores offer free shipping to the U.K. and for me that's the deciding factor. I'm not sure if their prices are such a bargain for anyone living in Canada, but for international customers they represent excellent value for money.

The above named companies also supply adult titles, but I can't really comment on their reliability since I rarely order porn DVDs online. That may change in the near future, with some retailers (dvdboxoffice included) now shipping via EU countries.

I've been waiting on an adult disc from them for about 8 months. I waited about 3 months before emailing them only to find out they could not get that particular disc anymore (I had to email them, they never even bothered to tell me, if I had not said anything to them they would not have informed me that they coud not get it). So I told them to send me something else, 3 or 4 months later and I'm still waiting, I have emailed them countless times (they will only return your email if you threaten not to buy from them anymore) and I alays get the same answer "we're still waitng for your disc". I'm just trying to get the disc they owe me so that I can tell them good riddance and goodbye. I live in Canada, just imagine the hassle I'd get if I lived in the U.K.

I have ordered many discs from dvdboxoffce.com and adultdvdboxoffice.com.

All of them have arrived usually within 7 working days although avoid using them around xmas time as H.M Customs hold up everything for around 4 weeks.

Apart from that i would have no problm in recommending the to other people.

I do realise that other people have had a bad experience with them and can only hope that this changes with them.

Avoid Vidshop.com at all costs though. Got my fingers burnt with them.

Before they started using Belgium for adult orders, they used to ship through Rotterdam, and the mail got franked there (like it doesn't in Belgium). I had a packet with an invoice date of 12 Feb and a postmark from Rotterdam dated 15 Feb (so it must have taken 3 days to cross the Atlantic, right?) but the packet arrived on 19 Feb, so it spent four days in the European postal system getting from Rotterdam to Blackpool (which must be a hundredth the distance between Ontario and Lancashire). I think I'd have got it quicker if I'd bicycled there and picked it up ;o)

M.B.,

I'm a Canadian too. For mainstream DVDs and CDs I usually use A&B Sound. They have good prices, and not paying PST is a significant savings (if you're not in B.C.). The downside is the relatively high flat rate shipping which makes small purchases unappealing. Also if you want a backordered item those long time estimates are IME fairly accurate. What I do is order things that I really want ahead of time, then spend a few weeks figuring out what I want to add to the order. If you're worried that your items might unexpectedly come into stock you could add a pre-ordered item to hold the shipment up. IME they do not mail pre-orders ahead of the listed availability date like some U.S. etailers. This probably sounds like a pain but if you're looking for something old A&B is one of cheapest and easiest ways to get it.

Has anyone bought from Playcentric? With the coupon code from MusicWorld the prices are pretty attractive. Selection is a bit less than A&B, but a big bonus is they only list what they have in stock. I intend to order from them next, at least if they get around to answering my email.

Meperidine,

I usually don't order mainstream titles online. I have no reason to. I can get anything I want here in Toronto (unless it's a really hard to find title), I just go downtown and see which store has the best price on the particular title I'm looking for. Within a two block distance I can shop at 4 or 5 major CD/DVD stores.
Adult titles are a different matter all together. Not all adult stores cary the same titles here, so if I can't get it from my local store, I hunt for it online.

I just went to their adult site (www.adultdvdboxoffice.com) and it's alive and well. Maybe they don't want a link to their adult site from their mainstream site as the laws in Ontario are going to change pretty soon regarding adult dvd's. They will all have to be reviewed and stickered by the Ontario Film Board just like adult VHS is now. I am thinking that they might want to ignore that and keep selling them the way they are now (title availabilty would go down drastically if they only carried stickered discs) so maybe they are going to keep the adult site totally separate from the mainstream one so that they can keep it low profile.
