I would only recommend it if you use your vehicle enough to warrant having it installed . Personally, i do fine with the stations I have and a cd player in the car. If you drive enough and want the choice to listen to the stations you want, commercial free, I'd go for it. I'm not sure of the pricing system though, $10 sounds very reasonable, but I would look into if this is a very standard pricing package with limited stations and if more fees are added on if you want more stations.

there's a device you can buy so you can attach the xm radio to a regular stereo or you can buy their boom box - so then you get the radio in the car plus the house for the same monthly subscription.

i like sirius better, it's just more money. decisions decisions :) innie meenie miney mo...

I will give you a reply from someone who actually has an XM radio. :)

We have the XM and would never go without it now- we did pick it over the Sirrus because you have a much better channel lineup and the equipment seems better.

I think most people don't fully realize what you can do with an XM radio.

First, it is actually a very small device that can be used in one of three main ways:

1. You can run it through your car stereo;
2. You can use it in an XM boombox to take anywhere;
3. You can run it through your regular home stereo.

It is if FULLY portable and clicks into each of those 3 options instantly.

We use it in the car - and would never drive in a car without it again. God, I don't know how we made the crappy LA to Las Vegas drive without it.

You have over 100 channels which work crystal clear no matter where you are in the US or the US waters.

We take it camping - which I know could be a big plus for you Steph. It was kind of cool being at 8,000 feet in the mountains and sitting around the campfire and listening to some music (my hubby listened to the baseball playoffs).

You can take it to a picnic at the park. You can catch the game that is not on your local radio as you are driving.

Instead of shitty programming we seem to get on our LA radio stations, we can choose from talk shows, to every kind of music (music you can't get on radio, btw - we LOVE our Unsigned Band channel), to news, to weather, to the Discovery Channel.

Second, commerical free is a HUGE plus. I have only noticed commericals on the sports and news channels (I think because those programs take commerical breaks). I haven't heard ANY commericals on any of the music channels I listen to.

Just last night we were sitting around the fire in the living room talking (my family is in town) and had the Satellite radio going in the background - the music we like (because it is all on channels divided by type so you can listen JUST to 80's or 70's or Jazz or Chrismas music or whatever you want).

It was nice just to have great music playing with NO commericals. It was great to find the exact kind of music we wanted to hear.

As far as repetition of music - I can't answer for Sirrus because I haven't heard it - I can tell you I am shocked at how great the rotation is on XM Radio.

To have a satellite radio receiver that is about the size of a mans wallet that instantly clicks into your boombox, car, or home stereo that provides the features it does is a WINNER of an idea.

As far as $10/month - that is the price you pay for all the benefits mentioned.

Me, I will pay a) NOT to have commericals, b) to have over 100 choices, c) to have my music accessible my channel type, d) to have that crystal clear sound no matter where I go in the county, e) for the ability to hook it up at home, in the car, or in the boombox.

What is $96/year anyway????? (The price we paid since we prepaid the whole year).

This is NOT just for cars.

Get it Steph, and get XM Radio with the full confidence that I am SOLIDLY recommending it. :)

well, i was sold on xm until i saw that sirius has npr exclusively (thanks to reciprocity for the link.) now i'm back in the air. i should just let drew make the decision ;)

i love the boom box option cause we're in the middle of a lot of construction. nice to have music out there in the butt ass cold. yes, we're building a garage and house in the winter... the fools will inherit the house (isn't that the expression ;)
