i don't know how others may feel, but IMHO Xrent just fucked up their entire site.

First of all they got a totally different design to, i dunno, look more "modern" Whatever. The problemss are with the features they've taken away.

1. You cant look at past items you've rented anymore. With one button, you could see the entire list of your past titles. There is still a feature that says "see past items" but when you do, it pulls up the order number which is about as useful as tits on a boar.

2. You used to be able to filter what is or is not in stock. Useful because Xrent has a LOT of shit that they have pics of, but are not available for rent or for sale. That is gone.

3. The Wishlist has been altered. They used to have a strip/counter that broke down your wish list by categories like studio, stars, genre, or series. This was immensely helpful if you had a large Wishlist. Also, if you pulled up a search for one star, it would then pull up co-stars and you could see what films two or more women were in. That is now gone. You can still search by those items if you want but you have to do a general search, you can not within your wishlist limits.

4. If you put something in your cart that you had rented before, a pop up would say, "you have previously rented this item before". That's gone. And again, they removed the feature where you can see "past items" instantly.

I never bought or rented from them but I did find their old site helpful to confirm which titles were pressed DVDs and which were DVD-R (and to avoid)

Looks like they got rid of that feature and the disc(s) field has a random icon. Are there different disc colors? Would silver = pressed and purple/black = DVD-R?

WhackyDVD is their sister site and is still in the process of updating so TBD how it looks after completion.

Generally. Not 100% but generally yes. I have seen pro-pressed DVD's that are purple.

Oh, no they've now shut down for everyone, that's just the screenshot of the front page. I think they realized they made some big mistakes, fixing things that did NOT NEED TO BE FIXED and are correcting things.

I wouldn't be surprised if the business/site has been sold.

Got an email I assumed was mass sent to anyone who ever contacted them; XRentDVD and WhackyDVD have the same owner(s)

I have been a long-time customer of xrentdvd, since January 2002. They have always been a very good company based on my experience.

They announced by email on May 17 that they were ending their Preferred program, which allowed for a number of DVDs to be out at a time for a fixed monthly price, with postage paid by them in both directions. You would still be able to order sets of DVD rentals, although at a higher price than the Preferred program, with outgoing postage paid as part of your order.

They said that a new website would debut on Jun 20. However, nothing happened until late July, when an "under construction" landing page appeared. It took about more 2 weeks for their new website to be launched. In a previous post, Smiler indicated he was not fond of the new website. For me, it seems functional for my needs.

Over the month of August, I noticed that there weren't many new titles showing up to be put on a wishlist. And then in late September, they went back to their "under construction" page, and it's been there for over a month.

I'd just about given up on them, since I'd emailed them and never heard back. But yesterday I did get a response, which stated:

"At this time XrentDVD is still undergoing repairs in order to make sure that all aspects of renting and purchasing work seamlessly. We do not have a definite day as to the return to normal operations but when we do we will send out a mass email to alert customers we have opened again for business."

A previous poster mentioned whackydvd.com as a sister company of xrentdvd.com, and their landing page has a similar "under construction" message as does xrentdvd.com.

I wish them the best and look forward to doing business with them when they resume.

UGH!! Xrent was one of my favorite sites!

I appreciate the valuable feedback on what was going on. I loved their wish list feature. If I checked frequently enough they would have a gently used copy available. They would also let you purchase a rental copy of a dvd so it was a great way to get out-of-print dvd's. I used to choose free shipping when it was an option and I would still get my dvds in a week.

Their sister site WhackyDVD is also on the fritz. They still have a pretty active seller account at ADM. But Xrent account there has disappeared as has their listings on IAFD.

At this point, I don't think Xrent is ever coming back. I didn't realize the problem started this summer.

There are fewer and fewer retailers selling DVDs today which is making prices of new ones even higher. People prefer to just watch the stolen versions on their laptop. SugarDVD stopped selling them last year.

I have essentially given up on their ever getting back on line. I don't know of any company that could afford to go without any revenue for 3 1/2 months and still go back into business.

I'm surprised Netflix is still renting DVDs through the mail. No adult titles, but the business model must make sense if they are still doing it.

Jaded Video also seems to be one of their sister sites as well. It has the same issue as the other ones mentioned. It's been out of commission for a couple months.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if you've got a new site in dev and it goes bad, why haven't they just reloaded the old site and continue to do business until they fix the new one?

I think the business was sold. The site code might not have been part of the sale.

Yeah this website every time I go to it, it still says the exact same thing! New Site Launching! Forever! LOL

Maybe it's still being worked on? Who Knows? It was a great website for Adult DVD Titles!

I used to pay Per DVD to Rent. I Loved It! The Monthly Subscription was too expensive for me.

I know other sites that have just disappeared as well.

Oh Well!

Netflix no longer sends DVDs by mail. Serious question. Does ANY company (maintream, porn, or anything inbetween) still let customers rent DVDs through the mail ?
