Well, as I said, they have been around for a while. Plus the thread says youngest looking, not actual youngest pornstar. The mosaic can be off-putting at first, but I think you get used to it. Plus the positives far outweigh the negatives, at least in my opinion. You also have to keep in mind that the mosaic actually draws in girls that otherwise probably wouldn't ever consider a career in porn. Making censored porn also keeps the door open for further mainstream careers. It may sound a bit absurd, but the law is so established in Japanese society that you shouldn't expect things to simply continue if it gets abolished. I have heard conflicting reports, but studios generally seem to keep master tapes around, for rereleases for example. But I'm not sure if they could even simply release them without mosaic, because wouldn't that kinda violate the performer's consent? I mean, it's ultimately the studio's footage, but potentially enraging performers can't be in their interest.
And it has been stated often enough on this forum why Japanese pornstars won't work with Western studios. But I can gladly reiterate if you want me to.
While it is true that there seem to be quite a few assholes in Western porn and it often feels strangely male-focused even when it's aimed at supposedly straight men, I don't think this is the main factor. Neither is content I would think. I mean, Japan famously produces almost anything imaginable. There are studios in Japan that basically exclusively produce scat porn. On a monthly basis. And pissing titles, puke porn, rape porn and whatnot. I can certainly see many girls being a bit hesitant to work with Western talent though. And while Japan is making interracial releases on its own, it seems more of a niche and there are many girls that never do it.
So the main reasons were and probably still are simply a lack of interest and money. While salaries seem to have gone down in porn in general, they still can go pretty high in JAV and Western studios just seem to prefer cheaper alternatives. And that's not even counting flight costs and I guess hotel costs and whatnot. There is a reason why you see so many Western porn stars make an appearances in JAV instead. Apart from the fact that a trip to Japan is pretty attractive on its own, the Japanese studios simply seem to pay well. It doesn't exactly help that the Western porn industry isn't in the greatest shape, especially nowadays in times of the pandemic and OnlyFans, both factors which do not seem to have affected the Japanese porn industry as much. Also Japan still has a pretty healthy market for physical media and piracy seems rather uncommon. Most of the girls also don't speak English and are contracted to certain studios, which doesn't help things I would think. They would leave their families and friends behind. Adjusting to a new culture isn't always easy.
Then there there is a crossover factor in Japan that does not really seem to exist in most countries. Many former pornstars continue their careers as tv hosts, make appearances in mainstream tv/movies, become singers or something like that. In fact there is Ebisu Muscats, a whole idol group with the gimmick of being made up of pornstars and gravure idols (basically bikini and nude models). Including active ones. Their roster is constantly changing. Add in the fact that Japanese porn is really popular all over Asia and you have an incredibly huge potential market. Take retired pornstar Sora Aoi, who is super famous in China and has millions of Chinese followers on social media. There is the stigma that comes with exposing your genitals, plus they would kinda undercut their censored careers. The fact that women in JAV are not really marketed as super horny sluts, but more as the cute girl-next-door types. Japanese porn seems often a lot more classy than the somewhat trashy Western equivalent. Anal is also a lot more of a niche in Japan and even the big stars only rarely if ever perform it. Could make it harder for them in the more anal-focused Western market. And those are just a few of the many differences between the industries. I'm not saying that it's impossible to overcome these differences, but I can see why some girls would struggle with that.
Now I obviously can't speak for everyone and this doesn't mean that no Japanese pornstar ever would make an appearance in Western porn. But unless they really wanted to, I don't really see much of a reason why they would. And with only Marica Hase as a notable example, really, I don't see things changing anytime soon. If anything I could see Japanese pornstars make an appearance in a Dorcel production or a title by some other more highclass studio. Would also fit in nicely with the general focus on plot you often get in JAV. But your average gonzo? Doubtful.
A dozen Years ago there was a German importer who was distributing some Japanese movies without pixellation I mean the very same movies I own some of them , plus there were a few studios who produced uncensored JAV that was made for a foreign markets , but most of all there was a lot of "uncensored" stuff was sold uncensored through a black market in Japan , at one point the Government wanted to strenthten the law and said the footage has to be pixellated, immediately , as soon as it is shoot then the Police seized and destroyed from studios all the uncensored stuff they could find plus fining them they made a great amount of financial damage. So now either they shoot outside of Japan with higher costs or they must pixellate everything. Anyway the level of pixellation could be almost non existent at times but some other times it's umbearable.
There's a TV series on Netflix "the Naked Director" based on the one guy who basically singlehandedly transformed Japan Porn in the nineties. Before him they didn't even actually have sex , they had some band covering the genitals and simulating sex , something in the western world was barely rated "mature" back then. Still today there nostalgic viewers who actually prefer that kind of adult movies and you may find movies where you can't see any genitals and the actors put an arm or a leg in the way so that you can't even say whether they're actually fucking or not.
I will never get used to mosaic. It's not just incredibly stupid (I can't see a vagina but no problem with the anus), but especially blowjobs are completely meaningless for instance. In any case, yes, it really sounds absurd that women who have made hundreds of porn movies doing every kind of things would not do that if the mosaic wasn't there. But the current constant stream of newcomers would probably be smaller if they were asked to bare it all. And the permissibility between a porn and a mainstream career would most likely suffer as well. Plus a law that has been around for this long leaves its impact on people's way of thinking. It's not like mentality sudddenly changes over night. This is a common opinion in the JAV fandom. And as LCF said, the anus is not primarily seen as a sexual organ. No. As long as the actress is actually of age it's fine. It's no one else's business to judge another's fantasy or preference.
The mosaic's size is indeed constantly fluctuating and might even differ from one studio to the other.
I also hate to be that guy, but The Naked Director takes place in the 80s. At least the first season. And I highly doubt there is still a significant number of people out there who prefer fake sex over the real stuff. The second season is also scheduled for June, not May. And I would recommend the series to every porn fan. Hell, to everyone in general, really. Let's say the mosaic gets abolished then you would probably see a somewhat messy transitioning period. I don't think that things would magically change over night, but more of a gradual process. As for your last point. Well, I think it generally should be possible, but just going to Japan and shooting would bring some costs with it. I'm not involved in the porn industry, but I would also think that there are regulations in place, so can't simply go there and film porn, at least with established pornstars. Amateurs are a different story. Then there is the fact that the contract girls might not even be allowed to shoot with other producers against their studio's wishes. And even the freelancers probably fear possible repercussions.
