I kind of find the term relationship funny, but I think you used it on purpose to make your topic stand out. I have somewhere in the range of 3 to 4 hundred(probably closer to 400) titles. I also collect video games, I bring this up to make a point, a point for the way I am anyway. I have destroyed VHS tapes, over 100, that I collected when I was around the age of 18-21. I have traded in old games and consoles, i.e. sega genesis, saturn, and everytime I remember them I regret it. I collect them, I have games I have purchased that I have never played. I have videos I have never watched. I thought about it the other day, the phrase "it's not the kill it's the thrill of the chase" this works for me because I wait, I spend hours on-line looking for the best deal. After a year and a half I found that game/movie for under $15 on sale or just a lucky find. I do occasionally purchase games/movies for full price but usually wait. At the prices I get them at, they are not much more than you would pay to rent them. My point is I actually have fun looking on-line for movies and games. I find a type that I like I do research to find more of the same. After that I find ones that sound interesting, after that I search 5 to 10 of my favorite sales sites looking for prices. I once ,about 4 years ago, purchased 6 recent porn releases for about 12 dollars. There was a sale that was about to end and a sale that just started. The site combined the two and boom $2 RLD and Elegant Angel movies. Looking at the billing, I think they realized their mistake and charged me what they could. My original email made it sound like I paid even less than $12. I didn't do anything wrong, I chased down a good deal, and found a sale that allowed me to collect more movies. I may not have needed new movies but I couldn't turn it down. O.K. I just had to tell that story, makes a good point of how fun it can be to just look for your favorite titles. Now the prize sits in my collection almost as the deer head for a hunter. This makes me realize that ,I collect, I don't want to get rid of my collection. Look at stamps or coins, you can't even do anything fun with them, my collection you can play or jerk off too.
Right you b. But first, one has to have the time and privacy to go thru them and edit; find a closet, etc. to save the ones you cannot do without. The rest, say 90%, a guy could sell off or put on ebay or whatever. Tell me when you figger out time to do it; outside of flat-out retirement.
Hmmm... When I was sixteen I had a very hardcore porn, which was my first. Anal, cumshots, IR, the whole shabang. I felt I could not keep it conceled in my parent's house any longer. So I did the logical thing... I drove down a nearby street and threw it out my car window. Accordingly, I backed over it several times. I whish I hadn't. I want it back. There was a great Chloe Nicole anal scene on it. Since then... I have a hard time parting with anything...
>>seedfeeder Yeah, you probably are, but I'm not far behind you and I bet a lot of others are on their way or past you. I figure as long as you got cash to purchase the vids and that's what you want, go for it. Most people have at least one thing that they spend a bit of money on for there own pleasure. I figure 500 videos at , lets just say $20 for the fuck of it, is $10,000. I'm assuming this is over a period of time, probably years. Other fun pleasures people spend money on like a nice motorcycle is maybe $7,000 + insurance(possibly much more depending on what kind of motorcycle). Home Entertainment Center maybe $5,000. Computers, for a gaming machine plus dozens of titles maybe a 3-5 thousand. My point is paying a few thousand dollars for something fun is pretty normal. If you have the money, have some fun if with it if that's what you want. Porn just isn't as accepted in society as a way to "waste your money". I think that's what makes it seem excessive.
I'm thinking of selling my stuff off again, possibly. I've put a lot of money into it recently but I shouldn't have done that as there's other stuff I should be devoting my time and money to. I need a new hobby.
>>ChodeMasterJ Judging from some other of your post(agree or disagree) you're pretty amorous about your porn. I think you know your stuff, judging from your emoticon maybe you're joking. If you're going to sell any I have a feeling there will be some nice videos for sale on pre-owned videos somewhere. Come on now, no one needs just one hobby. Take up bowling and come home to a shiny DVD collection. Just kidding man, I got a feeling you'll be here for a while. What's your favorite video, if you'll humor me. I gotta go with a couple of my old favorites 1)New Wave Hookers 4 or 2)shocking truth(with Taren Steele)yeah I like Gregory Darks movies. A new one has got to be Pretty Sloppy or maybe Bakers Dozen 9, or maybe Fuck Slaves, oh well I can't pick just one new one. I'm drinking too much, I'd still like to hear your answer if you feel like it.
I don't really have one particular favorite. JJV and Evil Angel are consistently good stuff. Elegant Angel as well. I'm just looking to sell what dvds i've accumulated and use that money toward bills and stuff. I have a habit of BUYING dvds but never watching them. Also, I'm thinking that maybe I should take the 1-2 hours a day I spend here and do something more productive and beneficial in my personal life. This place is great; I've posted here for ages. I'm just thinking I should study more, hang out more with my friends, and maybe crack some books that I've bought over the years but never had the chance to read. Maybe mess with photography more or reignite my love for playing music. The internet is awesome, but for the last 10 years I've spent excessive amounts of time going through porn message boards, on here and on Usenet. That's not anyone's fault but mine, but I've just had the proclivity to waste way too much time on here. It's an escape for me in a way. Maybe then, I'd have the time to pen the novel I've been wanting to write for several years or write some screenplays for my film classes? Something that I could reap benefits from in my personal, REAL, life. I need to dig myself out of the rut I've dug for myself for the last decade and I think this would be a good thing to do. This is all just something I've been thinking. I've talked with another ADTer about it, as well, and they said I should do what I feel I need to do to be happy. Sometimes stuff happens in your life that makes you reevaluate the things you do, the way you spend your free time and how you live your life. There's a lot of things wrong with my life that I need to fix and pulling myself away from idle time browsing at stuff online might be a good thing to do. This is by no means a goodbye letter or a manifesto. It's just something I'm pondering; an idea that I'm kicking around. Edited by - ChodeMasterJ on 2/22/2010 10:00:02 PM
Same here... I collect regular DVDs, (have probably 1500 including at least 100 box sets counted as "1" each), I collect video games... I have an impressive atari 2600 setup (including 2 vintage game holders, the atari game center.... 100 games, etc.), Nice NES setup, including the hard to find top loading NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, N64, a few others... and of course an xbox 360... And frankly, I have so much porn... it could be more than 500... there's like 75 in a large box in my car right now, theres several boxes in the attic, there's a 3' x 3' box full in my basement... several compilation video tapes, lots of loose discs... who the fuck knows, it's a lot.... and at any given time, I probably have 25 still in the plastic... it's so bad, I recall buying one movie by accident 4 freakin times... not realizing I already had it. They must have marketed that box quite well as it sold me everytime I saw it lol. And I have other collections as well...

Although I wish I would have held on to my NES, Genesis, and Saturn, even my commodore 64 that's why I mention selling stuff in the past and regretting it. I have thought of going on Amazon and buying a N64,super nintendo, genesis and others but honestly I've found emulators on-line and I've been using them right now.

I routinely throw out old porn. Unfortunately, the denizens of the neighborhood are aware of this. Consequently, I'll sometimes have to chase them away from the trash bin with a baseball bat. Why raccoons would be interested in porn is beyond me.

Absolutely. As a bibliophile, I've had decades of experience with this problem, and it has always happened the same way. Whatever title I think I'll never look at again and rmove from the library to make room is the very book that a month later I'm desperate to find for some reason. It seems like the act of getting rid of the book ITSELF somehow insures that I'm going to want it soon. My experience with porn has been EXACTLY the same. Unless you must for some reason, don't thin out your collection. Keep it. What a great thing to put in a will! Imagine stuffy old aunt Cora the sanctimonious prude, showing up at the reading thinking she's in line for some cash, hearing the lawyer say "...and to my dear Aunt Cora, who loved them so, I leave my collection of pissing DVDs." It would quite literally, be the last laugh.
