Hi
this is the first time I have posted here, and I would like to thank everyone for all the information they have shared. Everyone here has definately made my on line shopping easier.
I do have a question about 5 star . com. About a week ago I placed an order. A few days later I decided to check to see what the status was. It said it was "Completed Canceled" I have no idea what this means. It sounds like an oxy moron to me. Was it completed or cancelled. Would someone be nice enough to fill me in on this?
I emailed them 4 times with this question and have yet to get a responce, which is suprising since everyone here says their customer service is outstanding.

Thanks for all your help.

We received 2 emails yesterday from Braddock and our customer service staff contatced Braddok today. I also personally followed up with Braddock to make sure everything has been taken care of. Under certain conditions we may cancel an order but we always notify the customer first.

You don't think the next time you run into a situation like this you should call first on the telephone and find out how it goes, then post?

Sonic, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Look at how many times another company with good service was treated recently. I think if we stood back and thought about it for a moment, most of us would understand that using the forums to pressure a company into an immediate response would seem unfair.

Now, being the reasonable guy that you are Sonic, what would you recommend people with a problem do:
1) email first, giving them a few days (unless it's an emergency situation-like the order is wrong)
2) call their toll free numbers and then email,
3) write messages on various forum boards that make it appear like a company is providing really bad service after a few emails that aren't answered in ten minutes (unlike this thread-many subject lines are quite hostile and even if a a hundred replies all say that the company is great-many people skim the headers and don't read the rest...)

I figure some of you might have a better idea of how to react to such things as I have been exceptionally lucky with my orders (with a few twists and turns). Any suggestions?

And the real kicker is..when their situation is resolved..they come back and post and give an apology. Why bother? It's too late.

Oh by the way..answers 1 and 2. It were me..I email first..and no response the next day, I call, simple as that. On top of that..the number is free..so no charge will appear in billing. Usually..if I made the wrong order I immediately call. But..many times...I usually attack the phone first because it's simple for me and right to the point and immediately get an answer.

Also..I'm saddened, that wonderful adult online store owners have to defend themselves, especially when they are playing legit, and doing business the right way and the way it's supposed to be. Most importantly, we have to understand, we're humans, we do many mistakes. I gurantee you this, it has happened to me. Many times and they were not adult online stores. But..I did have a situation with a adult online store and it was worth the wait..check it:

True story:

I bought two titles from a adult online store...I sent them back because that week I bought too much porn. (my hand got loose )
Note, I was supposed to pay the shipping charges.

I noticed for two weeks I did not get credited. So I called back, and the next day I got credited the full amount! I did not spend a dime. Will I shop there again? You damn right! I had a nice talk on the phone with the owner, and he was so polite and very generous. A slight boo-boo.

Truth of the matter is...no mainstream online store can rival or touch the quality and assurance of a adult online store in my opinion. I'm a shopaholic..and I tried many many online stores and never has any been more sweet or curtious over the phone than the adult ones. And that is the plain and honest truth whether you want to believe me or not. I have had laughs, and strong flawless communications with even one or two online adult stores that are not affiliates.

So that goes to show you.

..............
Heck you know what...I'm gonna edit my previous reply and I don't wanna be a parent yet. Billy should know better than to solve his easiest of problems. I tell you one thing, I'm happy we don't have pringle cans with a ball of yarn and use that for a sort of communication. Now that could be a problem

I'm outta here, over and out.

Sonic, you raised another good point. I buy a lot of dvd's (and other things) online. I think some of you know how much. In all the time I've shopped online, the mainstream stores have provided me with mostly good service (as a percentage) but they have been far more problematic than porn stores.

It's gotten to the point that my mainstream preorders are currently under 60 (IIRC). A big chuck of that is in a single order. To put this in perspective, over the last few years it's been rare that I fell below 150-200 preorders. (hey-it's a better hobby than most people have)

I've been passing up ordering titles just because I respond to bad service by not ordering stuff from a store for awhile. Stores that were once great are now mediocre, stores that were fair, now suck donkey balls, and stores that sucked, are now closed or provide even worse service (I wouldn't know-if they provide sucky service, I stop buying from them regardless of price).

I guess my concern is fairness. It's not just that these stores and their rep's (or owners) are affiliated with ADT-that's just a good business decision on their part-it's that the order of operations (in math terms) should be something a bit fairer. I know I'm preaching to the choir (regarding most of you out there) but sometimes it just bugs me. This isn't directed at Braddok so much as a handful of others (usually with few messages posted).

I agree that shoddy service should be made public but considering how bad some non-affiliates are, I can only wonder what kind of service some of these guys have been getting to make them expect perfection (or something nearly perfect) in their dealings. If any of you have been having perfect service at comparable prices, please-let the rest of us know about it. I, for one, would love to know where else can some of us get dvd's with free shipping, lowest price, 10 second response to emails 24/7, and hand delivery by the porn star of choice (as appears to be the case with some of you-sure I'm exaggerating...).

Well, it seems that I have backed myself in a corner here. I just wanted everyone to know that in no way did I mean to bad mouth 5 star. Ken, the owner, emailed me not long after I made my first post. After several emails we figured out what happened. I replaced the order and he even went as far as sending me a 5.00 coupon link. Yes, everyone here is right, maybe I should have called first but we all make mistakes. I am big enought to admit that I made one.
I would like to apoligize to andone on the forum that I may have offended and in paticular to 5 star dvd.
Oh by the way, Houston Don, just wanted to say that I enjoy reading your reviews. You have a free flowing writing style that makes me think you are right next to me talking to me instead of reading it.

Braddok, just to clear one thing up-I was speaking in general terms, not directed towards you here. You had enough class to leave the subject line fairly innoculous (ie: by simply reading the header, one wouldn't assume that 5 Star had done you wrong). I'm sure that 5 star and most everyone else appreciates your courtesy. There's no need to apologize.

Thanks for the comments about the reviews.
