Just got one at the local Best Buy for $54. Its supposed to be for Tivo, but works fine with windows vista. For $54 you can't beat it. I'm in socal, so if you're in the area check out your Best Buy and see if they have it. Its the Western Digital MyDVR Expander.

That's a decent deal but you can get a terabyte for just a little over $100 now. It's just more convenient to buy a larger drive if you don't want a bunch of individual drives cluttering up your space. Though it's probably technically safer not to trust large amounts of date to a single drive. Costco has some good deals on external drives but I haven't checked Best Buy for a while. It could be the prices are basically the same. And as I always say, you can never really have too much hard drive.

FWIW, I just bought a triple interface (eSATA, USB, Firewire) Seagate FreeAgent Pro 1-terabyte external drive for $99.00 with a 3-year Seagate warranty.
I'm not a big fan of Seagate disk drives. I've had too many DOA in the past. But for the price I took a chance.
Works okay so far ...

What do you plan on using this for? I'm asking because the Free Agent Pro is one of the eSATA drives that seem to be a problem with DirecTV HD DVR's.
For a DVR, where the hard drive will be running 24/7, I think that going with an internal hard drive and an Antec MX-1 enclosure is the best bet. The Antec does a much better job of keeping the hard drive cool than any pre-assembled external drive does. Assembling the external hard drive in the enclosure is as easy putting batteries into a kids toy.
