This thread is in response to a question DVDWishes posted in the Thundercrack! thread, about whether there are similar movies on dvd. I haven't seen Thundercrack! yet so I don't know exactly what it's like, but from what I've gathered it's a loopy sort of B-horror flick with hardcore porn. So I thought it would be cool to make a list of porno B-movies and similar cult softcore oddities that are available on dvd.
I've written a little about all the ones here that I've seen, and in the case of movies with multiple titles I've just listed what they're available as on dvd. This isn't meant as a comprehensive list, just some favorites, so other recommendations are more than welcome. I've tried to keep it limited to Midnight Movie type stuff that's relevent in a porn forum.
And for anyone who might read this and decide to check any of this stuff out, be warned. Alot of these movies are really bad and some might be considered downright indecent!

The Adult Version Of Jekyll And Hide - 1972
This is a softcore horror flick with Rene Bond, about a scientist who makes a potion that turns him into a sexually rampant, pathological, murderous blonde chick. It's moderately entertaining in a bad movie sort of way. It was produced by David Friedman, a B-movie hero who also produced The Budding Of Brie.

The Amazing Transplant - 1970
Another softcore flick by a future pornographer: A guy gets a penis transplant that compels him to murder women with gold earrings. Doris Wishman made some of the most wonderfully wierd movies ever, rarely does anyone talk on screen. Instead you see lamps, walls and mostly people's feet, so that the dialogue could be easily dubbed.

Cafe Flesh - 1982
I've never seen this, I haven't been motivated to get it instead of other stuff because the dvd is cut.

Caligula - 1980
I actually like this movie, anyone who reads this list should probably be aware of that. The dvd totally looks like shit though.

Country Cuzzins - 1970
Country Hooker - 1974
Midnight Plowboy - 1973
The Pigkeeper's Daughter - 1975
Sassy Sue - 1972
Southern Comforts - 1971
Sweet Georgia - 1972
Tobacco Roody - 1970
I can say with a strange degree of affection that these are some of the stupidest movies I've ever seen. They were all produced by softcore drive-in genius Harry Novak. Rene Bond is in Country Cuzzins and Country Hooker, and Colleen Brennan, aka Sharon Kelly is in Sassy Sue. All are available on double features from Something Wierd Video.

Deadly Weapons - 1974
To avenge her boyfriend's death, Chesty Morgan infiltrates a mob ring, smothering the bad guys with her gargantuan breasts. And if they aren't some of the most obscenely gigantic and wierd looking boobs you've ever seen, then you've seen too many boobs. Also directed by Doris Wishman, Harry Reems plays one of the mobsters. This was made back to back with Double Agent 73, the 73 in reference to Chesty Morgan's bust measurement.

The Devil Inside Her - 1976
A Zebedy Colt directed porno where a farm girl invokes Satan, who arrives on the countryside naked except for some radical King Diamond makeup. It's a good mix of porn and unintended hilarity. Terri Hall and Annie Sprinkle are both in it.

Emanuelle And The Last Cannibals - 1977
Long before he made such historic themed 90's porns as Hercules, Tarzhard and Jurrassic Pork, Joe D'Amato directed some of Italy's most unbelievable exploitation films. This is his stab at the cannibal horror genre. Definately not to be mistaken with the Emmanuelle films, this is an entry in the much sleazier 'Black Emanuelle' series with Laura Gemser. It's not one of the better cannibal movies, but as a cheap softcore gore epic it has its moments.

Emanuelle In America - 1976
This is another one by Joe D'Amato. It's a lighthearted and mostly boring little softcore romp, interspersed with hardcore inserts and scenes too bizarre to do justice to in writing. There's one scene in this movie that's pretty far beyond what anyone would expect to see on a legitimate dvd release. I would only recommend this to the most adventerous.

Erotic Nights Of The Living Dead - 1980
Yet another by D'Amato, this one was actually filmed to be both a horror and a porn movie, but it's not very effective in either respect. The scariest thing is probably the warts encrusting the leading stud's ballsack. Seriously. Anyway, I think it's a fun movie.

Hardgore - 1973
I haven't seen this yet, but it's got a satanic mental hospital and flying dildos so it's gotta be pretty decent.

A History Of The Blue Movie - 1970
If this isn't a cult classic it should be. It's a narrated history of stag films going all the way back to 1915. It's very informative and entertaining. Some developments in the genre are neglected, but probably because this was put together before they'd culminated in what's now called porn. It's surprising how kinky the really ancient stuff is. It's by Alex DeRenzy.

Images In A Convent - 1979
A nunsploitation movie by Joe D'Amato, not quite hardcore but pretty graphic.

Indecent Desires - 1968
This is about a really wierd guy that's stalking this blonde secretary. He finds a magic doll in a garbage can that allows him to feel her up whenever he fondles it. It's one of Doris Wishman's great black and white oddities. It's on a double feature from Something Wierd, with My Brother's Wife, another good one.

Let Me Die A Woman - 1978
This just came out on dvd so I haven't seen it yet, but any sex change movie by Doris Wishman that has real operation footage has got to be good, know what I mean?

Let My Puppets Come - 1976
It's like the muppets having fully graphic porno sex. It was done by Gerard Damiano.

Long Jeanne Silver - 1979
I would think this Alex DeRenzy porn would be sort of a cult movie. It starts out typically enough...and then the prosthetic leg comes off! Jeanne seems like a pretty cool girl though, I'd probably have sex with her.

Necromania - 1971
A satanic porno written and directed by Ed Wood, starring Rene Bond. Good stuff.

Nekromantik - 1987
This is an arty German film, both hilarious and sad, about a guy who's girlfriend basically leaves him for a corpse he steals for her from his work. Definitely not for everyone, it barely belongs here actually. It also has an okay sequel.

Night Dreams - 1981
Another one I have yet to see. From the makers of Cafe Flesh.

99 Women - 1969
The original women in prison flick by Jess Franco, the most prolific director from Spain or anywhere else. It's available in the director's cut, which people say is actually a good movie. I've only seen the X rated version, which is a different edit and has the most ridiculously incongruent hardcore insert footage.

Pink Flamingo's - 1972
This is the greatest movie ever made, it's not a matter of opinion. The lip-synching man-anus, obese drag queen blowjob and cannibalism only scratch the surface of the joyously subversive depravity this classic has to offer. Available in a two disk set with Female Trouble, another of John Waters' best.

Please Don't Eat My Mother - 1973
Another surprisingly explicit softcore comedy with Rene Bond, this is a take-off of the original Little Shop Of Horrors, which is also a good one.

Porno Holocaust - 1981
Directed by Joe D'Amato, this one is mostly porno and has very little holocaust, which is unfortunate because the porn isn't very good. The last act when the monster finally shows up is worth watching though.

Re-Penetrator - 2004
A short porn parody of Re-Animator, the 80's classic, and starring Joanna Angel. It was filmed by one of Troma studios' director's. There should be more of these coming along, I heard about one called The XXXorcist.

Sadomania - 1981
Jess Franco's most sadomaniacal women in prison film, it stars porn starlet Ajita Wilson, who was born a man, and has moments that border on hardcore.

Salon Kitty - 1974
This was directed by Tinto Brass, Italian softcore legend and the director of Caligula. Most fans seem to like this movie much better than Caligula. It's about a German brothel during World War II. There are a few grotesque scenes, but it's a really a pretty good film.

A Scream In The Streets - 1973
A softcore B-movie classic with some bad ass cops on the trail of a serial killer who dresses in old lady drag. Colleen Brennan is in it.

Space Thing - 1967
This is a pretty stupid, but entertaining enough softcore science fiction movie.

Street Of A Thousand Pleasures - 1972
I've seen some really dumb movies, but this one is the stupidest of all. It takes place in a Middle Eastern slave market and is filmed in 'Girl-A-Vision', an advanced film technology that allows the camera to zoom backward and forward idiotically against naked girls' flesh for over an hour while the main character says again and again, from off-screen, things like, "Wow, look at that!" Watching it is like a lobotomy. Imagine a really primitive and really stupid incarnation of POV porn. Uschi Digart is in it, but it's not hardcore.

Thriller: A Cruel Picture - 1974
This is a pretty mean rape-revenge flick from Sweden, complete with slow motion shoot-outs and karate. Unfortunately all of the XXX penetration shots were filmed with a double and not the film's adorable star, Christina Lindberg. The sex isn't meant to be arousing anyway and I believe the hardcore version is no longer in print.

The Touch Of Her Flesh - 1967
The Curse Of Her Flesh - 1968
The Kiss Of Her Flesh - 1968
A great trilogy by Michael and Roberta Findlay, about a guy who goes on a murder rampage when he finds his wife cheating on him. These can be a little mysogonystic, but not significantly by today's standards, and they're pretty entertaining. All three are available on one dvd from Something Wierd.

The Toy Box - 1971
A midnight orgy at a house haunted by an alien in the form of a perverted old man who pays his guests to perform sex acts for him. Another softcore movie with Uschi Digart.

Vampiros Lesbos - 1971
This is a surrealist lesbian vampire movie from Spain. Jess Franco made some pornos later in the 70's with his wife, Lina Romay, but this is from when he just made softcore. It's considered to be one of the very best of his 150+ films, but most people still don't like it.

Wham-Bam-Thank You Spaceman! - 1975
They don't make stuff like this anymore. Two aliens with balloon ears and tongue penises invade the planet to inseminate Earth women. It's an intentionally bad softcore movie and it's pretty entertaining.

So there you have it. Again, this is not meant as a complete list. There's alot more great stuff out there, especially from Alpha Blue, which I haven't been able to afford. So feel free to post your own comments or recommendations, I may add more myself sometime.

It's a real shame that you can't get the best erotica here in the U.S. Anything by Tito Brass you'll have to pay big bucks for and lets not even talk about all the Lady Chatterly's Lovers films that have come out. Aside from that I would say anything with the lovely Miss Julie Strain in it would be tops on my list. Two places you might want to look to find some old fashion erotica would be Absurd Online it's an Euro site so it has a nice selection of DVDs, but none can be played in the U.S. the other site is Xploited Cinema which is a U.S./Euro site, but as you can see lots there to choose from.

My first vote would be for something along the lines of the British made Fanny Hill . While you can't find it on DVD for NTSC, or Region 1, it is currently a Region 2 release. I remember watching this one when I was young and being blown away by the storyline and the campy way it slung Fanny into the world of sex.

This is an old topic, but searching on past threads you can see that a lot of the regulars here appreciate more of the softcore and tease of tradition/mainstream films as well.1

Yeah, I only have an NTSC r1 player. I'd like to get an all region NTSC/PAL someday, I'm afraid there would be just too much stuff to get. Xploited is another one of my favorite sites though, they have a great catalogue. Apparantly you have to e-mail Tony Simonelli personally to access any of their adult stuff now, but I heard they're working on building another site exclusively for their porn.
Also, there's good news and bad news. I found Lady Chatterly's Lover, Young Lady Chatterly and Fanny Hill on NTSC region 1 for pretty affordable, but Young Lady Chatterly and Fanny Hill are apparantly not in complete versions, so it might be likely that all three of them are cut.

These sound like my kind of movies. Of the ones on the list, I've only seen "Pink Flamingos", and I've heard about "Cafe Flesh" and "Caligula" for years.

The Joe Sarno films released by Retro-Seduction are relevant here. I don't have them all but would certainly recommend Butterflies (which features Eric Edwards and Harry Reems) and Abigail Leslie is back . Retro have also released a number of Nick Phillips films that might be of interest in this context.

Walerian Borowczyk's The Beast is astonishing stuff, even 30 years after it's original release. The movie is actually a comedy of manners, but it's most famous footage feature's graphic . . . alarmingly graphic footage of the titular beast ravishing a young woman.

As for Tinto brass, several of his most famous films are readily available in the US so I don't really understand the comment about them costing big bucks. The Key is my favourite but Miranda and All Ladies Do It are both enjoyable fluff.

Finally, Metzger's fabulous The Image is another 'one of a kind' movie that will doubtless appeal to fans of cult movies, albeit many will find it quite harrowing.

Depending on which site you look on his films are different priced. It is the same with Russ Meyer's films, however, they are expensively priced everywhere I've looked. Another film that I've found priced this way is Salon Kitty . While it is reasonably priced on some websites on Amazon it is marked as somewhat of a collectors item and is heavily marked up.

While it may not be overly popular I think that there should be a list of films that are more on the softcore/hardcore or arthouse level on this site as well. Regardless of this I will be posting my reviews of such films as long as this thread remains open.

If you can play region 1 PAL DVD's, the Tinto Brass movies are between 5 and 10 euro here.

I'm waiting until Sony puts a Multi-region DVD player out before I start buying DVDs from other regions. The only regional DVDs that I have that I cannot play are for Dune which is my absolute favorite cult film!

On the subject of regional coding, anyone with a PC DVD player should be able to play DVDs from other regions without any difficulty.

There's plenty of software available to overcome the region change restrictions, even if your drive is already region locked.

I use a free utility called Remote Selector.

The picture quality is excellent. There are a few seconds of blurry footage but according to the insert it was due to a camera problem and is that way in the master footage.

Yeah, good call on The Image, sdc. I've only seen Nick Phillips' horror movies, and I've also been kind of curious about both The Beast and Joe Sarno for a while.
Thanks for the info about Xploited, Flash, I found their adult pages.

I'm surprised that no one here hasn't mentioned Crash . not the bad film of the same name that came out last year, but the one made in '96. Crash which was about peoples erotic connection to car crashes had a very film noir quality to it. The first few mintes of the film where Deborah Kara Unger just walks into James Spader's office and tells him to go to town is just jawdropping.

That movie sounds familiar. But if someone mentions the film name, most people will assume it's about the recent one.

I've meant to see Crash, I usually like David Cronenberg. On that note, I don't mean to get too far outside the scope of porn, but since you mentioned Dune, some of David Lynch's other movies have softcore elements to them too.

Yes, the uncut version of Blue Velvet is supposed have some hot and heavy sex scenes in it, but nothing near those of a Tinto Brass film.

I've heard about Pink Flamingos since I was in high school and talked cult films with others I knew, but have never seen it. But if it has Divinie giving head in it I'd rather pick up Bang Bang She-male with Ariana Jolle in it.

I just placed an order for the uncut verion of a couple of Golden Age films that I'm sure everyone here would enjoy:

Anyone But My Husband
Never a Tender Moment/Beyond De Sade
The Image
Taxi Girls (Uncut)

As soon as I can I'll have the reviews of those up, and hope many more after that.
