The thread was closed to my surprise but I wanted to respond to this comment by Sunchen:
This part I don't understand because it's not like every european who post here will go to Berlin. I know I don't.

I have to agree with Ramsey on this one. While Sunchen's posts did make sense it's still akin to saying:

"I'm not answering any more questions in public, but will be happy to answer them in person. I'll be in New York at the supershow on Tuesday, since I notice a lot of you are American I suggest you meet me there, then."

That makes no sense. How can someone buy a product from DVSX and then sell it to back to someone in the US for cheaper than DVSX is selling them for, while still making a profit.

The only way that works is if DVSX is charging US customers more than they are charging European customers. If they are doing that, then they deserve to get their prices undercut.

BTW, I agree that those stickers are deceiving. In porn, the primary reason that a company wouldn't want their product sold in the US is fear of obscenity prosecution due to content. Everybody who buys Euro porn knows that. Whether DVSX thinks so or not, these stickers imply that the content is different than in the US version.

If they were really concerned about this problem, they would just press PAL versions of their discs. This would virtually eliminate the ability for a foreign distributor to sell discs back into the US in any significant quantity.

I think it's against etiquette to post comments on a follow-up thread (I mean, that's my general rule).

There was simply curiosity from us fans about possible "Euro" editions.
The same way that people have been debating about Rocco's Euro versions for years and years on the Internet. That's damn all.

I agree with Bill here. A PAL version of the discs is a much more effective way to meet their goal, and at the same time eliminate returns from people that can't play NTSC discs.

I think that there's kind of a mare's nest of mis-understandings; maybe DVSX picked a bad way to mark their European sales, maybe EroDVD interpreted it badly by assuming there was prohibited content, maybe DVSX (normally so accessible on ADT) could have nipped the question in the bud much earlier....

Maybe this is a question for the Tech forum, but explain this to me. There are still people in Europe that can't play NTSC discs? I have a real cheapo DVD player and my television is 10+ years old. I have no problem playing NTSC discs whatsoever.

I wanted to respond to that thread but it got locked before I could submit..

Anyway, of course I didn't expect to find triple fisting and golden showers in their titles but when you have a title released in US and the same title released in EU (marked as "not for USA") is it really that silly to think that those DVDs might at least be DIFFERENT.. in some way? And, DenverDon, software and porn are not exactly the same thing.

The bottom line is that I am very upset with the way DVSX has handled this. First they keep silent for like a week while they could have at least said "We're looking into it", considering they knew the answer to the inquiry from the start. Secondly, when they finally do respond (doing us a big favor), they unltimately blame it on the consumer. It's us, European idiots, who have misinterpreted the whole thing. There is no indication of any kind of (perhaps even insincere) apology/regret like "We're sorry guys for the confusion...". Nooo, they want to bury the issue asap. I can only conclude that it's either DVSX doesn't give a rat's ass about their customers or Sunchen is a lousy diplomat (nothing personal).. or both.

Oh yes, if I want to register a complaint, I am to travel to Berlin and speak with some dude.. WTF? This is almost funny. No, correction - this is funny.. in a sad kind of way. I am very sorry but it would much easier for me personally to just avoid your titles altogether. That is not to say that DVSX makes bad porn, but since this is very competitive market, I prefer buying from people who are nice to me...

Not all PAL TV's less than 10 years old can handle 60Hz. Most can but not all.
The cheap chinese players can all convert from 60 to 50Hz. It looks shite, but they can.
I'm not sure all big name brands can.

And not everyone uses an RGB cable between their DVD and TV. I do and always have, but some actually have a composite hookup. Yuck.
I think (though I'm not sure) that the players will output an NTSC signal on the composite wires when playing a 60Hz DVD. Many new TV's can't handle this.

Another factor to keep in mind is that the PS/2 marketed in Europe has a PAL DVD drive, not a DVD-Rom drive. People who use their Playstations as DVD players wouldn't be able to play NTSC discs on them. This was a big factor in MMV deciding not to make all their DVDs available in NTSC format.

Aline (EroDVD) insists that there are DIFFERENCES between the European version, sold by EroDVD, and the American version. The European version does contain EXTRA material. Aline acknowledges that there is NO fisting or piss content.

A year ago, Evil Angel DVD also placed stickers inside our DVD cases of product that was being sold to our foreign distribution customers. The sticker offered a toll free number that if anyone bought the DVD inside the United States and saw the sticker, they should call the Evil Angel toll free number for a $100 reward.
This sticker led to us finding out and confirming that one of our foreign distributors who had offices inside of California and picked up his product from us was NOT shipping the product to a foreign territory as he claimed. He said that since he picked up and reordered product from us on a weekly basis, that it was cheaper for him to pack our DVDs with the DVDs of other adult companies and ship them all together rather than each company charging him for shipping their product overseas themselves.

It IS very common for US adult companies to charge a couple dollars less to the foreign customers - after shipping costs, the foreign customers are actually paying more for that same DVD. Unless they don't actually ship it out of the country.

I am not trying to give insight into why EroDVD would be insisting on something that the people at DVSX saw is not true. I am simply saying that there is a reason that (at least to other US porn companies) the stickers make sense, at least in principle. Wording is important, but I'm just saying there's a legitimate reason why there was a sticker there that doesn't HAVE to be about content banned in the US.

I think that the bigger difference between what you did and what DVSX is doing is not the wording so much as it is the placement of the stickers. You put them inside the cases where people won't see them until after they have bought the product. There is no way that someone buying a disc would be confused into thinking that there is additional content on the discs intended for Europe because they can't see the sticker.

In DVSX's case, the position of the sticker causes the opposite effect of what they are intending. As a US customer, who also buys from Europe, seeing a sticker like that on the outside of the box immediately implies that there is different content on the European discs.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks that way. I'd be surprised if there is anyone who didn't think that way upon seeing the sticker on the DVSX discs. It seems that the EroDVD staff thought the same thing too.

Hey all,

I just wanted to say that I wanted to apologize for contributing to the negativity in the forums, and I am very sorry if anyone saw my tone in my last response as being rude.

Some people on these boards have gotten to know me fairly well, and I would hope that they know that I'm not generally rude in my responses, but am always polite and try to be prompt in answering people's questions.

However, if I did come off as being really rude, then what I will say is that I was just responding to what I perceived was a baseless attack on our company's integrity...which I would like to think would be something that people can understand.

So...now I ask, can't we all just get along?

Hey Sunchen,

I think we all know if you got upset or rude there was probably good reason. I missed the original topic, but it looks as though it was from a foreign poster and I know how frustrating their posts can be at times. I don't know if it's the translation, if they just have different ways of discussing issues, if they have different ideas of what's offensive, or if it's all of those at the same time. I know it's gotten the better of me a few times as well.

Now, that's rude, assuming that the problem was the original question. Actually, the original question was about as straight forward as can be. It was essentially:
Sun,
I don't know if I saw your reply as "rude" as much as I saw it as being evasive (especially after waiting so long to reply). As soon as people perceive someone as being evasive, they automatically assume the worst. Which is what I think happened here.

A few companies release "harder" versions of their movies in Europe. Seeing stickers like we saw on your titles at the EroDVD website automatically made us assume that this was the case with some new DVSX titles.

Many of the European ADT members buy much of their porn from US websites because they can get it sooner and often cheaper. Those people don't want to buy the US version of titles if they contain less footage than the Euro version of the same movie.

In the same vain, there are some of us in the US who are able to play PAL discs and are willing to wait and pay extra to have a European version shipped back to us if they contain more. This is exactly what I, and some others, will be doing with NarcASSist.

Ramsey's original question was just asking advice as to whether it made sense for him to wait until your discs were available in Holland or whether he should order from the States.

I can understand where people in Europe, or Americans who buy from European vendors, would think that a DVD with a 'not for sale in the US' meant it contains content generally not allowed in US. I also gather that this is a selling point that European producers or vendors use to promote their DVD's.

On Rocco Siffredi's European website (www.roccosiffredi.it), the home page says in big letters that his movies there are the 'complete European versions, No USA censorship'. But his American website (www.roccosiffredi.com, which looks like it is associated with Evil Angel), makes no mention that the titles promoted there are the American versions, though one can assume that they are.

Basically she was asked a simple question and wouldn't give an answer.

The question wasn't rude, wether it was rude to deny the ADT community a proper answer is anyone's guess...

The "no comment" answer is only too common when a company/individual/governement is asked a question they don't want to answer.

Personally I think this is silly for DVSX as they don't look good acting like this.

Also if there is no watersports/fisting content in the additional footage that supposedly is on the European version, this makes me wonder even more what the fuss is all about?

Sunchen,

I'd like to make it clear that in no way the criticism (at least mine) was addressed to you personally. I am sure you are a nice and very beautiful person. However, within the context of this and previous threads, I for one see you as a representative of a company and not as a gorgeous sexy chick. I pay hard earned cash for my porn and I sure as hell want to know what exactly I am buying/renting especially if I can get it cheaper elsewhere. We're talking business here.

And in my opinion, as a DVSX representative, you didn't come off as rude but rather as customer unfriendly, in this particular case. I found it strange to be honest. Ramsey's initial question was completely innocent and logical. The answer and explanation you've provided weren't very convincing and that naturally left room for some speculation which, by the way, wasn't baseless. Not to mention we had to wait for the answer nearly a week. Futhermore, the desire to sweep the matter under the carpet, didn't exactly make a good impression either. I have no doubt that if you were in my (our) place, you'd also question if not the integrity, but at least competence of your sales and PR departments.

Anyway, I have no bone to pick with you personally and I am not on mission to discredit DVSX. I have my personal concerns but that's about it.

Bill & Walter,

COME ON GUYS, I in NO way intended that to be taken as "those foreigners". I said specifically "foreign poster". I was referring to the posters who's 1st language is not English. The one's who have to translate different languages. I'm saying I realize Translating is hard. From reading your posts Walter you are from an English speaking country correct? So in the way I meant it you weren't included. I probably should have said "First Language Non-English posters", but I was lazy and went with "Foreign Posters".

Can't I go a week without controversy!

I had an in-depth talk with Sun today. I totally sympathized with her situation - one which as a fellow PR person for another adult company, I instantly recognized that she was probably in a situation where she did not have the authority to talk about anything beyond what her initial post was, and she probably had to wait for authorization from people above her to make that initial post. Although in this specific case, those stickers were misleading, she knew why they were there, and she may have overlooked how obvious it could have been for customers to hopefully jump to the conclusion that a sticker of that sort would have been talking about content and not about territory rights.
There have been times when I had limited knowledge about something that was going on and someone posted a question here at ADT, and I wasn't able to post a full answer. I told Sun about a few of those times and that I would simply post something like "hey, I see this thread, but I don't have an answer yet - I'll get back to you". That's often very frustrating, and to tell you the truth, I hate it when I have to do it, because it makes me feel like I probably come off as being incompetent or evasive. Anyway, I know some of the inside stuff going on to do with this, and I hope that as far as believing Sun or not in this case, that you guys will give her the benefit of the doubt unless she proves herself as someone that you can't trust - and I don't see that as happening.
As an American, I cringed when you said what you did in your earlier post. I was pretty sure that I knew what you said and meant, but I was also pretty sure you were going to rub a lot of "foreigners" the wrong way.
And I hate to say it, but this new post isn't much help... Walter is from Belgium. I'm not sure what Walter would consider his 1st language, be it Dutch or French or something else, but it constantly amazes me that his technical knowledge and mastery of the English language is better than a lot of the people here that DO have English as their first language. Until I found out for sure where Walter was from, I was sure that he was from the UK.

WOW!,

I just keep digging the whole deeper and deeper, but my point I was getting at wasn't that people from other countries "can't post" or "they should feel lucky we let them post". I made it clear that I missed the original topic, but after reading this topic I was under the impression that it was a misunderstanding between the original poster & Sunchen. Then I read Sunchen's post where she was apologizing for bringing negative feelings the Forums. Call it chivalry, Call it being overprotective, or whatever. I wasn't about to sit by and watch Sunchen feel outcast because of some misunderstanding.

Walter,

If you were the original poster I sincerely Apologize for my mistakes in this situation. Because I didn't take the time & find the original post it caused my comments to be seen as "you foreigners" comments, which they were not. I hope you can except my apology. I love having people from other countries posting in here. It gives interesting incites on many topics and I hope you feel that goes both ways. "I LOVE YOU MAN!"

Tricia,

I hope this cleared my comments up a little better. Also Tricia I don't know if Sunchen will read this, but if she doesn't please let her know that I'm sorry if my comments made her situation worse. My attempt was let her know she wasn't seen as a negative person. Thanks Tricia

No AC it wasn't Walter who started the thread. It was Ramsey. And if you take a look, I think you'll be hard pressed to find any posts there with English bad enough to cause any misunderstandings.

I don't really blame Sun personally for not responding quicker. She's usually very prompt.
But DVSX comes across as a pretty small outfit, so it did surprise me that it took so long to get the official position formulated. And it was definitely a mistake, PR wise, to ask for the thread to be locked.

Anyway, I'd think that's all water under the bridge now, and Tricia's good advice should help ensure it doesn't happen again anytime soon.

No I'm not pissed at you AC, but you might have taken the time to find the other thread before you apologised to Walter without knowing who started the thread.
There aren't that many threads with the locked folder icon.

I guess we all make the occasional post that could have been worded better.
What, with my limited grasp of the English language, I'm sure I've made a few.

So, have we actually resolved the main issue here?
The thread has now derailed into "Poor Sunchen + idiot AC Cream" discussion.

Let's sum up what we have so far.

Q: What are the differences between US and EU versions?
DVSX: No differences.
Q: Why is there a black label?
DVSX: It's there to track DVDs in Europe in order to prevent bootlegging and backward sales. (<- don't know if that's the correct term)

Meanwhile, "EroDVD insists there are differences although acknowledges it's not fisting and pissing!"

Now, based on that and ignoring the negativity, I still have some questions..

1. Does DVSX utilize this label on all DVDs that go overseas (to EU) or only on some titles? And if it's only on some titles - why?

2. Again for the record, are there ANY differences whatsoever between DVDs with the label and w/o one? And I don't mean just content wise, but anything: packaging, behind the scenes, covers, menus, dvd extras, etc? Are those discs absolutely 100% identical?

3. Does DVSX plan on continuing to use the black label in the future?

4. Why would EroDVD claim there are differences, in your opinion?

Thank you.

Kperv,

Thanks for your comments & the link to the original post. I definitely should have taken more time and worded my post better, but in the situation my judgment wasn't great. At the same time I feel my comments are being taken way out of context.

Sbando Boy,

I in NO WAY called anybody NAMES. I'm actually rather upset you would put me in such a category. I did NOT attempted to break any Forum rules. "Shame on me, all the people like me, wherever we are"???? Yeah, shame on good hearted, Porn & ADT lovers everywhere. You should all be ashamed of yourselves!

Ramsey,

I knew when I wrote that Chivalry line somebody would call me out for it . The point I was trying to make was that I can't just take Sunchen "the person" out from the DVSX spokesperson. I've seen too many topics that Sunchen put positive feedback into to see her apologizing for being a negative posters. Ramsey, I'm sure you can understand the base of where my comments came from. Also Ramsey, You and I have been in so many topics posting side by side(a lot of times on the same side of an issue ) that I would hope you wouldn't have believed those comments were meant to be disrespectful to "posters not in the US"(using this now instead of the F. word).

Ramsey, Walter (again), and any other person from a country other than the US. I sincerely Apologize for the wording in my comments. While the people who assume(d) there was hate behind the comments are WRONG I still can understand that in a world where Hateful people do exist my comments might have been seen as coming from such hate.

Lets get back to the Porn talk!

It appears that the sticker is on all of their new titles (at least it's on all of the titles that EroDVD has recently added to their site.
Probably for the same reason that we all thought that the discs were different. In the past whenever an American company has added something like this to their packaging, it has meant that there was additional footage that is not appropriate in the US. There was no reason for EroDVD to believe that this wasn't the case on these DVD's.

I think it's better to let this thing rest for now. I hope DVSX will contact EroDVD and set this thing straight for everybody involved especially the fans and the same goes for the AC Cream remark. His remark was obviously a wrong one, at least the way he wrote it.

Cream,

You made a stupid comment, basicially off topic, in a thread that obviously doesn't concern you and without knowing the whole situation. Then you claimed you didn't mean it. Well, perhaps I used the word "idiot" when referring to you but guess what, I didn't really mean that either. You're right, you see. I just don't speak English that well to find more appropriate term. My sincere apologies.

Vandaag niet meer. Morgen? Wel, 'that's another day'.

Yes, that's probably it..originally. However, I was under the impression that they were still claiming there is a difference when DVSX claimed there is none? That's what puzzles me. Why would they do that?

Zoid, AC said he was sorry for what he wrote and I believe we should let that case rest.

I think Walter is saying, "I make this alone for more 'something'. With that, it's best at this moment, to say nothing more."

From what I know, Walter is a film studies professor at a university in Brussels, Belgium. His native language is Flemish (Dutch), not English. That being the case, Walter writes far better in English than a number of North Americans who post on this board, both porn fans and performers.

If I had a dime for every time that a North American here on ADT wrote a sentence where they didn't capitalize the first word or proper names, they misspelled every tenth word, left out vital punctuation marks,or strung independent sentences together with a bunch of commas, I'd be rich. It's downright shameful. Frankly, I find it impossible to judge where a person is from based on their understanding, or lack thereof, in regards to English grammar and spelling.

As an aside, I believe the word 'idiot' has similar meaning and spelling in English, French and German. This probably holds for Dutch, as well.

No way, it's WAR.

Seriously, you don't have to tell me to let the case rest as I've never had any case with him to begin with. I thought his remark was uncalled for given the context, but no more than that. Unlike some of you, I wasn't even offended. We all say silly shit at times. In fact, I even questioned why so much attention goes to his remark, instead of concentrating on the problem at hand. Okay, I shouldn't have said "idiot".. Sorry for that, AC (no pun intended this time).

My Dutch is even worse than I thought, but I read it as "You're only making it worse. Perhaps it would be best to say nothing further for now". Or is it "from now on"?
And now his words are being analysed like he has his students analyse films.

Sorry to continue the derailing of the thread.

Yep "You're only making things worse ." is what my trusty online translator came up with . Where would I be without Babelfish ? Much more limited in my surfing that's for sure .

Frankly , many of the posters on this board who don't have English as a first language quietly shame me . You see , my only option from this current tongue is a little dodgy French - just enough , barely , to pass my GCSEs . I'd love to be multi lingual and always promise myself that I'll make a go of it . Next month . Sadly by then the laze has set back in , and my lingo remains stubbornly uni . Still , that promise lingers , so maybe someday ...driven by shame ...

The scary thing is that a lot of posters are probably either college students or graduates. In my own defense, I only have a high school education, and am lucky to have that.

Damn it, Renee. Why you be hatin on the Mexican and French Canadian ADT members (along with the possible Hondurans, El Salvadorians, Guatemalans, Panamanians, Nicaraguans, Costa Ricans and whatever other North Americans I forgot. Any Haitians in the house?)?

Am I the only one who wants this whole topic to go away? The question was asked, and it's been answered. Period. Anything else leans towards flame-bait.
