The Audiovisual Media Services Regulations 2014 banned "physical restraint", "strong physical and verbal abuse" and potentially "life-threatening" acts from being depicted in online porn on 1 December, in a barrage of ambiguous new rules. Read more: No female ejaculation, please, we’re British: a history of porn and censorship #PornProtest will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for 'face-sitting' (an act that could face censorship) and hold a 'Sex Factor' game show, both using fully-clothed participants. It coincides with the debate of a motion put forward by Liberal Democrat MP Julian Huppert to annul the AMSR changes. The protest is the brainchild of Sex Worker of the Year 2013 Charlotte Rose, who said: "These laws are not only sexist but they taking away people’s choices without consent. "Personal liberty is what we are fighting for on Friday which no one has the right to take away from somebody else." Miss Rose joked on the Facebook page for the protest that there will be "facial colour charts for health and safety to ensure no one is being suffocated" by face-sitting, monitored by adjudicators. "Pornography is the canary in the coalmine of free speech: it is the first freedom to die," renowned obscenity lawyer Myles Jackman told London24. "If this assault on liberty is allowed to go unchallenged, other freedoms will fall as a consequence." If it isn't annulled, the ASMR could mean other acts such as bondage, whipping, penetration by certain objects, humiliation and choking are banned in UK-produced pornography. |

| eccentric_mike Member 713 Posts 11/11 | How did they depict those sex acts as offensive/dangerous? Has this been discussed with the public, with consumers even?!? "it’s more important to educate than regulate." <---- And who watches porn to educate? Personally, i would seriously consider locking them all in a mental institution, they have big issues. A psychiatric evaluation should be mandatory for all politicians... I hope that this will not create that dangerous precedent... I've said it before...you don't like, you don't watch it/you don't like it, you don't buy it. It's that simple. |

This is the project that was meant save me from having to compromise myself, my alternative to spending the best years of my life working for other people. Dreams of Spanking represents my creative independence, my sexual self-acceptance, and my financial stability. It's mine, I made it, it works, it was the biggest thing I'd ever done - and just as it started to pay me a wage, it's being taken away from me." |

It is difficult to explain why a country which is otherwise fairly liberal is so addicted to censorship. It must be remembered, that until as recently as 2000, the sale and distribution of the kind of porn discussed in these forums was completely illegal in the UK, when the government had to finally throw in the towel, albeit with every bad grace. Even then, the sale of DVDs was restricted to licensed sex shops. So politicians and opinion formers of today grew up in a period where porn was virtually prohibited. As a result, Cameron's proposals meet with negligible opposition across the political spectrum and mainstream media. Even worse, many on the left are signed up to a puritanical brand of feminism which sees porn of any kind as exploitative. |

| cormac Senior Member 1093 Posts 1/14 | As for the plan for legislation, let's wait and see. The governing Conservative party is deeply split over the EU referendum (I'm certainly voting to remain) and the talk is, given that the Cabinet is not only split down the middle but members are attacking each other on a personal level, whether the govt can even survive in its current state. If we vote to come out Cameron may have to go; if we vote to stay in, many of his Cabinet colleagues will find themselves out of favour for a long time. |

| jackdore Member 512 Posts 6/16 | What other country has an outfit like the BBFC, tasked to examine every adult release to ensure it doesn't breach some arbitrary 'guideline'? Seems an obvious target for satire, but people just seem to accept it without comment. Pandora can relocate over the channel - though why should she be put to that trouble? - but if her site should breach the R18 guidelines then British citizens shouldn't be watching it according to the current proposals. Classic movies such as Taboo and Taboo American Style would not get a certificate from the BBFC and so couldn't sold legally in the UK. Others such as Joy starring the legendary Sharon Mitchell would only pass with heavy cuts. I find this totally absurd. |

| jackdore Member 512 Posts 6/16 | In reply to Cindy, that's not the half of it. Every time a company wants to release something it has to be submitted to the BBFC, whether it's Mickey Mouse, Laurel and Hardy or Angela White. It doesn't matter if the same material has been passed before. The BBFC charges a fee for every new submission. If it's porn being submitted for RI8, someone will carefully go over it to check for anything prohibited at the time. 'Fluid expelled from the vagina onto another person' is perhaps the most notorious, or it might be a verbal offence, such as a young woman calling an older man Daddy during sex, or any reference to under age sex. The company will then be notified that the offending material is to be removed as a condition of certification. You couldn't make it up. |

The UK has a bad history of the government controlling speech in a way out of whack with most other Western democracies. What other Western democracy has in their recent history arrested and jailed people for distributing horror films? The video nasty list even included films like Axe that are not really that violent at all, they added films based on their titles and covers, then jailed people over it! | jackdore Member 512 Posts 6/16 | Meanwhile another man was taking advantage of this, opening a chain of squalid shops purporting to sell shrink-wrapped 'hard porn' which was in fact rubbish. So successful was this fraud, that he became one of the richest men in the country. He is now a generous donator to David Cameron's conservative party... |
| Canadian_Cindy Deactivated User 1102 Posts 2/15 | Back in the 1990s if I got a VHS rental you would see fisting or double anal edited out... then after 2000 it seemed to change and double anal was left in (yay for me) and so was fisting. I guess it depends on who is the person occupying the room watching 40 hours of porn a week as their government job. what a horrible career to have I would think.. just would kill your sexual desires having to view porn over and over again in such a way. |
| BlackSix All-Star Member pornography wasn't sex but fantasies of an impossibly hospitable world 12377 Posts 9/07 | The rules around what was allowed changed over the years too, so it wasn't just who was watching it. For instance, fisting use to be a no go but then they changed it to 'violent fisting.' lol The rules use to be online, as well as a list of videos blocked at the border and were pretty detailed, amusingly so. It was all because of the bad supreme court decison under Dworkin/McKinnon's influence but over the years the rules go broader and broader to the point where they don't have much teeth. I think the growing social acceptance of BDSM, at least among liberal circles, has a lot to do with it. Last I looked it was mostly pissing, scat and what looked like beastiality titles being excluded. I had customs open up packages from the US with Jake Malone's Fuck Slaves and the infamous BDSM classics Dominatrix Without Mercy and The Image but they just sealed them back up and sent them on to me. | cormac Senior Member 1093 Posts 1/14 | I do, therefore, stand by my view that we are one of the freer countries in the world. There are, after all, 206 independent states in the UN, so being in the top 20 or so actually reassures me greatly. Having said we should stick to the debate about porn I've now fallen into my own trap; sorry. Couple of sites to reflect on below. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_banned_films http://whatculture.com/film/15-banned-films-that-shocked-the-world |
| cormac Senior Member 1093 Posts 1/14 | "Are films that are downloaded from the internet rated by the BBFC? Many are. Although streaming and downloading of films is not yet regulated by law, working with the major video distributors and platforms, we have developed a scheme for platforms offering downloads and streaming video to use BBFC age ratings and BBFCinsight. This is designed to help you make informed decisions about what you and your family watch. " I read that as meaning that the guidelines are just that and there is no legal bar to watching unregulated sites. |
| jackdore Member 512 Posts 6/16 | Regarding Pandora Blake, a lot of performers have been forced to relocate abroad under pressure from ATVOD and its successors. I can recommend campaigner Jerry Barnett's excellent Sex and Censorship site for more info on this and other disturbing trends in the UK. I did not join this site to talk about this depressing subject. I thought the UK had changed for good around a decade ago but now all this nonsense is returning. I first became aware of it a long time ago, on reading an article on Gloria Leonard, and became fascinated about her and others such as Sharon Mitchell, Nina Hartley, Erica Boyer, Annette Haven and more. I knew none of them conformed to the negative stereotypes of women in the porn industry, but their work was completely illegal over here. I recall an interview with Catherine McKinnon on Channel Four in which she came out with the usual guff about women as helpless victims in porn, and the interviewer's final question was ' how can we prevent it happening here? It was difficult to dispute anything she said though as the whole business was unlawful here anyway. So the net has been really liberating. |

We saw predictions of "Pornmageddon in the UK," sites were targeted and fined by ATVOD, sites were cut off by payment processors and failed. Most of the UK sites that I follow have survived so far, but most of them now have to censor themselves. What will it take for this madness to end? |

| LPee23 All-Star Member Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off. 248 Posts 1/15 | I didn't just write about it, I made an effort to join and download the UK sites that were at risk of being targeted. Focusing just on sites with peeing and squirting content, I came up with 19 sites or networks plus more clip stores. I also kept an eye on ATVOD's website since they would post it whenever they identified a site that was in violation, even if those sites continued to operate without responding immediately to the violation, which was most often the case. That is how I got tipped off to the Hard Glam network and their site WaterSportsSluts.com which had many famous UK models including Lolly Badcock. I saved a full copy of that site shortly before it went under. See this Xbiz interview with Hard Glam's owner: http://www.xbiz.com/news/188991 It is interesting how inconsistently Ofcom's rules actually got enforced and how confused people were about them. I emailed with one webmaster to talk about her watersports content in December of 2014, just after the Audiovisual Media Service Regulations 2014 act got passed. The new law at that point only required ATVOD to formulate new rules that ban R18 content, which led to Rule 14 in February of 2015. Rule 14 is the regulation that actually banned that famous list of sex acts. Even though no new rules were in effect in December, she was under the impression that watersports was already illegal, and she was afraid to have anything to do with the content. Meanwhile, one owner that I thought would be in violation talked with ATVOD and were told they would be fine, while others tried to ask and were told their only means of finding out would be if ATVOD takes action against them. That first owner now does all business overseas through a shell company though, and only produces the content in the UK, apparently as an extra measure of caution. His content is borderline on Rule 14 though, so obviously I won't say who it is here. Edited by - LPee23 on 10/22/2016 1:15:22 PM |
