I think British people are steeped in anti-porn rhetoric. I used to be anti-porn, ffs. It's the old "ban this sick filth" attitude that, for some reason, does very well in the UK. I also think liberal Brits aren't particularly inclined to defend pornography, especially when it's supposedly hurting children, causing murder, and etc. I asked my mum if she was campaigning against these laws, seeing as she wanted me to move home so badly. No, she wasn't. First she claimed not to know anything about it, even implying that it wasn't really happening ("well, I haven't heard of that..."). Then she muttered something about not wanting to see those sorts of things. This is coming from someone who votes lib dem and is an avid film watcher and feminist. I hear very similar attitudes and apathy from my other liberal feminist friend my age. They champion sexual and gender equality, but it's all very Caitlin Moran.

I'm not too familar with Moran outside of the time she showed her belly in public, which for some reason was reported as newsworthy and a Reason article where she apparently was an advocate for not shaving one's pubic hair in resistance to porn culture. A bit ironic as we all know bush had come back to porn long before it became acceptable in the mainstream again.

Interesting that you consulted your mum. Even if she was alive there would have been no point in asking mine because I know what she would have said! There is still a belief with many of the older generations that girls in porn are like Linda Lovelace or somehow drugged or coerced into having sex on film, and users wear dirty raincoats and huddle about in Soho doorways. And for the majority of porn users, to come out openly to oppose this censorship would be admitting to the world that they watch porn; how embarrassing!
It will never be a priority for future governments to reverse these measures - not a vote winner - and it may take a court case to bring it to the fore. But primary legislation can only be challenged via the Convention on Human Rights - we don't have a written constitution like the US. Article 10 protects the right of expression but it's qualified and governments retain the power to license certain forms of expression. We may be stuck with it for a long time.

The liberal left in the UK are in fact often in the forefront of demanding more censorship on the basis that any heterosexual porn 'objectifies' women, although they have little to say about the sexism of the BBFC who target women's bodily functions as a key subject for censorship. Then there is the constant hysteria about teenagers growing up in a 'sexualised', society and the absolute determination to try and prevent anyone under eighteen viewing porn, even though the age of consent in the UK is sixteen. We have no equivalent of the US 'religious right' but then who needs them as both major political parties and most of the media have a thoroughly negative attitude to porn and related industries.

ATVOD did and BBFC will censor female ejaculation in cases where the liquid contacts other people. They have no issue with cumshots. This is so inconsistent, that it doesn't need any further explanation, I think the point here is obvious. This fits the definition of institutional sexism.
Their stated reason for censoring female ejaculation is that it is sometimes really urine. I can all but guarantee that they did not consult with any people for whom pee play is a core part of sexuality. Pee play is healthy and valid sexuality too.

Looking into the details, the bans are not nearly as bad as the headline grabbing news articles make out. According to Myles Jackman - Obscenity Lawyer at least.
My reading of that says female ejaculation is not banned as long as it is brief and isolated and not consumed. Spanking, caning whipping are not banned as long as they don't cause injuries more than transient and trifling. Face sitting is not banned as long as it is not employed as a breathing restriction.
Just playing devil's advocate here. Not sure what is worse, attempting to spell out what is acceptable, or vaguely leaving it to a judge to decide what is "obscene".

How could face sitting not be a breath restriction? It's okay to consume cum but not female ejaculate?
When the state tries to regulate adult content they render the law an ass.

It's tempting for me to take the attitude that since none of the censored stuff is to my taste anyway, then so what? But just as the treatment of prisoners is the litmus test for a nation's application of human rights, censorship of porn is the same in respect of freedom of speech and expression. Let's hope the various campaigns have an effect.

Compared to the rest of Europe, definitely; compared to Japan, we're walking in sunshine. Compared to America, then apart from fisting which I believe is censored in the US, definitely. But Trump is unpredictable and maybe he'd like to court the bible belt with a little more censorship, who knows?

^ Period blood is almost impossible to represent in the U.S. also. Somehow, Erika Lust managed to make a period scene recently. She is based in Barcelona.

I'm not a fan of these prohibited acts and my tastes tend to be pretty vanilla, but so what?. It's the principle of it all.
Of far greater concern for those in the UK is the recent passing of the so-called Digital Economy Bill in which it will be necessary to prove one's age before accessing any kind of online porn, by means of credit card or National Insurance details, with the blocking of sites that can't or won't comply. That could even effect a site such as this, while giving fresh opportunities to hackers to obtain financial and other personal details. The Orwellian Investigatory Powers Act aka the Snoopers' Charter in which ISPs are mandated to keep records of sites visited by all of their customers is now law. What next?

The latest on Pandora Blake's blog: Age Verification Critiqued on Radio 4.
Blake is tireless in her fight. I applaud her efforts - she is working so hard for all of us and for very little thanks.

She's doing a valiant job against a background of increasing demands for censorship of the net from politicians in the UK, amid the usual public apathy, and deserves far more support.

UK porn, is that some kinda big deal these days? I sought out some magazines over a decade ago, turned out each and every hottie was from abroad, they never declared it, though, fake news indeed.

In those mags people like some kinda novelists made up stories about this and that, having being served BTS shoots from porn valley by fucking fax machine. They used to call Lily Thai "Maria", they bragged about babes that ran down their office in London to get their pictures taken, and that they couldn't deny "Maria" as she all of a sudden showed up from out in the street. But that was Lily Thai in L.A. Fucked up society, not much truth to their stories. They should be sued right away.

Well you can't condemn it all on the basis of some crappy mags you bought a decade ago. We're talking about the on-going attempts to ban certain acts in porn and the overt attempts to restrict access by UK citizens to online porn.

A lame production on TV I witnessed about recruits didn't excactly lift my expectations. She went from some state of mind saying US next, had to go on a qualifer first, so she went to Budapest. In the outskirts of town, on a dark rainy night, she was trying to have sex in the back of a van without no one seeing thru any windows. Prouducer didn't get it straight. So she went for Spain. Then the show was over.
