| dirkdigler2 Member 24 Posts 5/04 | Well, This won't be popular but it's my opinion and you know what they say about opinions. This isn't directed at anyone at all in particular and doesn't intend to hurt anyone, but I gotta get it off my chest. I must be getting old or something. This new generation of porn that is now completely entrenched has become just boring. It’s all anal all the time ; gaping ; how many dicks can we stuff into a girl at once etc. etc.. What used to be an occasional scene is now hard to avoid at all. I suppose this is what everyone wants to see and what sells. I find it just too much. Directors such as Guy Capo are more my speed. I find it pretty sad now that for the girls to survive in the business these days, they have to succumb to this sort of treatment or they won’t be around that long, which leads my next topic, There certainly seems to be a shortage of new talent coming into the business. It used to be that when a new *fresh* girl showed up, you could look forward to several titles of here while she is still bright eyed and eager. I think that the talent these days gets spent up in this business very rapidly. By the time a girl gets to her 10th shoot, just look at them. They start looking pretty haggard and withdrawn. I think they longevity and quality of the talent has decreased significantly due to the increased demand for harder scenes as referenced above. I don’t particularly care to look a scene of a girl when she just looks like she’s had it. They start to have that glazed, drugged, drunk, *I’ve had one too many dicks stuck in me* look. There are a few ladies that seem to have the ability to stick around and keep their looks and more power to them. I just think they’re getting *used up* way too quickly these days. All this seems to have gotten worse in the past few years. I wish there were a few more titles that just stuck to the simple of notion of having beautiful young and fresh ladies having sex and enjoying it. There are still a few series like this, but it had become a huge minority of them. All right, I said it. Now flame away. I do understand that If I don’t like it, then don’t watch it. I do practice that. My porn viewing has dropped considerably though due to this issue and just moving on in life. I just think that a few of you may be thinking the same thing. Maybe not. [Link] |

I give most of it a pass, and yet there's still plenty for me to watch. More than plenty at times. Having been in the entertainment, if not the jizz biz, I can say that it can be a hard life. Certainly if you don't find and respect your limits you're going to end up in trouble. I think a lot of women may try porn because they can make a fast buck and they assume that because it's 'just sex' it'll be easy. Like any other job, it works out better for some than others, and some people stick around when they'd be better off trying a different field. The only difference is that in porn your job performance is immortalized for endless review, whereas nobody notices when their accountant is having a bad day. Women enjoying themselves.... one of my favorite performers is Bamboo. Now, she's pretty much an anal queen, and yet if you look at the body of her work she's all over the map with it. Sometimes she looks in pain; sometimes she looks like she'd rather be doing something else and just when you start wondering what the hell she's doing it for you see her having the time of her life. Go figure. I reckon she's old enough to decide for herself if the bad days are worth the good ones. (PS - Happy Birthday, Bamboo!) |

Most of the companies seem to be going to gonzo because it's cheaper to shoot, and it seems to sell well. But with so many releases coming out each month, even a good porno that isn't all about gonzo can get lost in the shuffle, because the retailers have been putting their money into the gonzo. |

But to emphasise a point by dirkdigler2, it seems like new girls have to succumb to this sort of treatment , if they wish to make a living doing porn. It's not that I have any problems finding porn without girls being put through the wringer, I just stay away from the major gonzo studios. I do however think the experience of many newcomers will be one of shock when a gonzo shoot starts to turn rough. Porn has always been about making a quick buck, so this attitude is not exactly new, but it (possibly incorrectly) seems to me that the new trend of every other male performer doubling as director has made it even more prevalent. Could anything be done to reverse this trend? I don't know. Some of my favourite girls, who didn't seem comfortable doing the rough stuff, have quit the scene in the last year or two. On the other hand, many other porn watchers prefer a constant influx of new girls and don't mind at all if they leave again after a couple of months. Who's right? |

1. Women that don't look like they've been completely wrecked by the industry. If you guys can't look at some of some of the performers these days and can't come to the conclusion that they are just *done* is beyond me. I'm tired of seeing the same actress that i was excited about maybe 6 months ago start to look just withdrawn and weathered. To me, they don't appear to enjoying themselves whatsoever for the most part. I guess it's a paycheck. it's a turn off for me at least. 2. Porn used to be about pussy which is something that most people can relate to. now it's become all about anal, gaping, gagging etc... For most, these are fantasy items that will more than likely not be a part of our everyday lives which does explain why some like to watch it, because it's fantasy. I certainaly don't mind the existence of it at all. I just choose not to watch these title. But it would seem that these have now become the Dominant titles in porn. It's hart to just simply find the barely legals, or north pole kind of titles anymore. 3. Now, of course there are exceptions. There are a *few* performers who come to mind that just seem to enjoy anything you can possbily throw at them (Melissa Lauren comes to mind). And for them, I say great ! go for it. if fact it's a turn on to see how into it they are. But this really is the exception to the rule. I think that many of the performers end up in a situation where they've become acustomed to the earnings but are under incredible pressure to be more extreme or exit the business. I truly think that a great deal of the women if they had their choice (i don't mean that they're being forced, but they have to make a living) wouldn't do the extreme anal, gaping, choking etc.. scenes. I don't believe that porn is particularly degrading to women, but I do believe that some of these scenes are. I don't particulary care to hear any statement like, " oh well dude, have you talked to them about it?" Of course the performers who would probably respond to this would choose to perpetuate the fantasy. It's good for business. Why would they go on record saying they don't care for it. That wouldn't be very wise. ok, part 2 over. ;-) please continue the dialougue. I appreciate the responses and would really like to understand all the points of view here. |

Kperv. I can't agree more with everything you said in your post. you hit it on the head. |
| green-toke Member Loc: Kyoto, Japan 159 Posts 4/05 | I had always thought that gonzo films were a minority fraction but after looking at all the porn studios out there it appears that they are prevalent. It sounds like you prefer the type of stuff that was released in the 80's and early 90's. Much of it is now being re-released and I have found that the acting in late 70's and early 80's is much more convincing. I can only suggest that you check out studios like Sin City, Ninn Worx, Wicked, and Jill Kelly. Maybe others can suggest more to you. If you look in the adultdvdtalk forum 'The Feature Side' you will probably find more suggestions. I personally am one of the many who enjoys gonzo more than the softer films. But as far as women who 'start looking pretty haggard and withdrawn', I have noticed this with girls in the films from the 80's and 90's as well. Perhaps it is more common now due to gonzo, could also be that the girls you are referring to have an expensive habit that is finally catching up with them physically and emotionally. I don't think that it is a secret that many of the girls in porn get caught up in the fast-life much like hollywood actors do. But I won't say that gonzo isn't responsible for it or some of it because nobody really knows what is going on inside a pornstar's head except a pornstar. But we can choose to speculate. |
| melpster Member 582 Posts 5/05 | It's like with music -- if all you listen to is one genre all the time you start noticing how every heavy metal band starts sounding the same, and you start to question the quality of music out there in general. With porn, I've discovered just keeping things fresh by widening your range, alternating from gonzo to feature, or 80's to 90's (heck I have porn from the 1920's on video), it really helps. Or so my limited experience has been. -MelissaP. |

1st off. let me make one thing clear. I LIKE the gonzo concept. I don't need to turn to features, in fact they bore me. I could care less about a story line. but as far as I know, gonzo doesn't necesarily mean all the gaping, emphaisis on anal etc... does it? there are plenty of goznzo titles that aren't to the extreme. 2nd. I can really see the connection between the substance abuse and the industry. This is something that really ought to be addressed. Are these ladies coming into the biz with these addictions? or is the buisiness driving them to it. I can see it now. Drug testing in porn. (ha) It's really too bad that the ladies that do develop substance abuse issues can't be put on hold until they clean up. but I'm sure most of the directors/producers could care less. |

Of course there are girls who like gagging. But the industry pays girls from poor ex-communist countries A LOT to perform |

It's just that I personally find the job description a bit too rough these days. Even if we got rid of the worst dishonest bastards among the directors and producers, such a large percentage of the porn shot today appears to be too rough for many newcomers, as well as for me as a viewer, that the girls are unable to find enough work that doesn't cross any personal boundaries to make it worth their while to stay in the business. And as I prefer the type of porn that's less taxing anyway, it's of course not ideal for me that girls, whose performances I like, have to leave. |
| green-toke Member Loc: Kyoto, Japan 159 Posts 4/05 | Ideally, I would like to see performers who are drug-free and enthiastic about what they are doing for a living but the real world simply doesn't operate like that, unfortunately. I wouldn't mind seeing the entire industry create a fund that allows for porn stars to get help for any addictions that they have. I think that the adult film industry also needs to try to set up a more complex story line for their gonzo films and maybe hire on some quality special effects personal. I still prefer that the films be extreme in nature however. You would end up with less scenes in the movie but the quality of the scenes would increase (JM Productions is probably the closest to doing this sort of thing currently but they are obviously very low budget when it comes to costumes and special effects). Too many gonzo titles just have a brief introduction between the actor and actress before they go at it. |

our minds are one. you have some great ideas. They really ought to set up a fund like that. If sharon mitchell can set up the health watchdog for the porn industry, certainly someone could do this. Let's help these young ladies at least exit the industry without a lasting addiction. great great idea. I know that some of the performers have shared views such as mine regarding jumping straight into the hardest core material. I recall reading a Jenna Jameson interview where she very clearly tries to reach out to the newbies in the business to convince them not to just jump in head first like this right off the bat. |
