In a practical sense, this means running a tight ship with the girls on his roster, making sure they show up to the shoots they're booked for, and in those cases where someone needs to cancel, he pays out the kill fees right away, so there are never any lingering issues between the agency and the content producer. Combined with his large roster of talent, this puts LA Direct in a position to be the talent provider of first choice in the business, which helps explain why girls keep signing up there, even though these issues pop up every now and again with one girl or another getting extremely pissed at the agency and breaking ties in a very public way. Click to expand The problem with Sydney's tweet is that you don't know what she is referring to so maybe the medical issue was that she was shitfaced the day of the shoot because she went partying the night before and wasn't able to work. At least we know what the medical problem was with Adria the day she fainted and while I sympathise with her. Why should the producer or her agent/agency pay for what she clearly did to herself? If you read all the replies in Sydney's tweet then you know that she isn't interested in being represented by any agency but would like to self book. Strangely enough she is asking to self book but get help from agents. So if I read between the lines then she would like an agent to find her jobs but not be under a contract. She might be able to find one but he would expect to get paid ahead of the shoot and somehow I doubt she would be willing to do that. Even if she was then who should get the kill fee invoice whenever the performer doesn't show up? The performer or her advisor/agent? There is a very good reason why most producers refuse to hire self-booking performers. Girls flake on shoots for a wide variety of reasons and if they don't have someone they can contact to fix the problem and/or absorb some of their cost then they go out of business real fast. [Link]

I must say after reading that, what LADM did and how they handled this really doesn't seem out of line with industry practices. I realize Adria was/is having physical/mental issues and I hope she gets this addressed. On the other hand on 3 separate occasions she forced a production to have to be canceled. Now it is true that that these were serious situations including an ectopic pregnancy but the fact is when a production is canceled the producer still has to pay everyone involved in that production except for the person who caused the cancellation. Thats were the kill fee comes in to be paid by the talent's agent and then charged to the talent who either has their next shoot(s)' payment withheld from them or they pay the agent back directly. It seems Derek made a point of telling her that these sorts of things actually happen on a fairly regular basis and that this is SOP. It looks like from what I am reading that Adria feels that because all of this happened to her and she couldn't reasonable be expected to perform especially only finding out or experiencing these issues a week before, the day of, whenever, that she shouldn't be charged a kill fee. Unfortunately that isn't the way it works, so I think all this negative press she is generating is not going to work out well for her. At this point she is going to risk not being able to get booked and be forced out of the industry. As has been mentioned by several posters here, the best thing for her to do would be to take an extended leave from the industry and get herself right. But in general if you ask around you'll get an idea that industry just tolerates him because he has a large roster of talent. Things seemed like they were going back to normal for me. My mental wasn't the greatest but I was stable enough to work. On April 18 I was scheduled to shoot a DP(double-penetration). I had shot many of them before so I went through my normal routine where I fast the day before and then eat lightly the day of the shoot so I have energy to perform. I had a later call time that day than usual because we were waiting for the moratorium to be lifted. I got to set at about 2pm. Sat in the makeup chair for an hour before I started to feel hot flashes. I had fainted before so I knew what was coming. I politely asked the makeup artist if I could sit on the floor cause I felt lightheaded and didn't want to fall out of her tall chair. I sat on the floor for less than a minute before I fainted. I woke up to the makeup artist shaking me and shoving a soda in my face to get me to drink something. She remarked that I was as pale as a ghost. Then, much later after the above: Shortly after this was when I started to crumble mentally. I felt like I had been holding everything in on top of feeling mistreated by my agency. Tax season also just hit and it has always been one of the more stressful times of the year for me. Financially, mentally, and physcially I felt like I was being taken advantage of by everyone. The only person who was keeping me grounded was my boyfriend. On the night of May 6th, I had a severe mental breakdown. It wasn't from one thing as much as it was more of a snowball of shit that had been building up for months. I already struggled with depression and suicidal tendencies and the experiences I was going through made me feel helpless. For someone who has always struggled with mental illness ending it seemed like an easy solution to my problems. I had prescription pills at the time that I used for times like these when my anxiety clouded my thoughts from thinking reasonably, and also for flying. She lied initially about fainting after trying to commit suicide (May 6), then in a text, 'came clean' about taking pills and trying to cut herself. From her blog, regarding the night she harmed herself: I lied to my agent and told him I fainted out of fear that I would loose work. Shortly after I got extremely upset that I had failed again at trying to take my life apparently, grabbed a knife in the kitchen went into the bathroom and started hack away at my arm as hard as I could. Luckily my knives are shit. I probably would have had better luck trying to kill myself with a spoon. At the time I was completely mad, not only was I black-out I was having an extreme mental breakdown. My boyfriend came into the bathroom to see me sitting on the ground sobbing, defeated, with my shitty knife next to me. He panicked, immediately picked me up and hid anything that I could possibly think of to hurt myself with. He quarantined me and watched me for the next 24 hrs. He told me at that point I needed to be honest with my agent about what happened so I could take the time off that I needed. I decided to tell Derek that I had not been 100% truthful with him earlier. ------- Looking at the invoice that appears right after her description of what happened on May 6th, there is a $200 kill fee owed to Jackie St James/JSJ Films dated May 7. She 'never' fainted because she took 30 Xanax, she took 30 Xanax and tried to cut herself, lied to her agent that she fainted that morning, cancelling the JSJ shoot and then admitted that she lied about fainting and that she really cancelled because she tried to kill herself. They find the best looking girls and they get them work based on their position within the industry. So in that aspect they are one of the best and most powerful. At the same time they do have a tendency to get these girls who are young and niave to sign these long term contracts. Do the girls have to sign the contract? No. Does anyone force them to? No. There is plenty of evidence around the internet for girls to do their homework and find out what they need to know. #2 Being an agent in the industry the way they make money is getting bookings for their talent and getting a fee for that booking. When one of their talent kills the production, they are the ones who get the negativity of it. Production companies don't want to work with an agent that constantly sends them flaky talent, who have to rebook all the time or replace. It wastes time, it wastes money, it's bad for everyone involved. Each piece of the porn shoot production has their job to do. A production company wants to get a product shoot and onto the market, can't do that without talent. A agency wants to get their talent booked as often as they want to be available and want them to be reliable. A talent wants to get booked, get paid, and then do whatever. In this case you have a talent who disrupts the whole process and then isn't happy because everyone is working against that talent, from her perspective. In any case if she can't get it together or doesn't care for LADM anymore then she needs to just sit out the rest of her contract and come back at the appropriate time. From the best we can tell, she paid dearly when she could not shoot. It's not like she abandoned her contractual obligations. She did not blow up on any producers set. Hay did not look like some kind of monster in those private conversations, he makes tough decisions like a cold corporate guy but he does offer help every time and gives you several chances. and Adria herself made mistakes that she tried to pin on others. Bottomline is if producers in the industry read that dramatic blog, will they fancy hiring her? I think not so much. [Link]

I believe that if everything she wrote regarding her mental state over the last three years is accurate(I'm taking her word for it) then producers might want to be cautious when it comes to giving her more offers because porn and her may not be an healthy mix. I can't emphasize just how baldy I don't want to read that she chose suicide as an outlet for her pain and clearly that is what she claims to have done at least twice in the last three years. If 2017 has shown me anything. It's that we really don't know all the things that happen to our favorite models once the camera's are turned off and just because we think they are happy. It doesn't mean that we are correct and that we should seriously take any call for help even if they are small ones as a warning sign. [Link]

I will say it again. Adria was with LA Direct for her entire porn career and only got pissed at them in the last few months. That means that she was quite happy with her contract for more than two years. Unless someone can show me proof that she had issues with them two years ago or even a year ago then I will consider Adria a more than satisfied client of LA Direct. Now I can't speak about the different kinds of contracts an agent can offer a prospective client but somehow I doubt that it's a verbal one because that kind of contract is almost guaranteed to blow up in the face of the agent because it's always going to be a he said she said type of scenario since there is no paper trail explaining the relationship.
