I recently had trouble with a DVD order from Adult Video Universe. Before placing the order I checked stock status through Adult DVD Talk and it said that the item was in stock. The product info at AVU said that the item usually ships in 1-2 days. After one week I find that the item is back ordered, only by checking the order status. They don't send an order confirmation or notice if the item goes on back order.

I had previously ordered the item in November with the same results. After the previous order cancelled, the item was listed as being in stock. I emailed them (through a box on their site) asking if it was only a problem with this particular item. I also asked if they actually maintain and track their own inventory. They didn't bother to answer, but a few days later the item showed as being shipped.

Ok, so I finally got my DVD. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced trouble with orders from them.

When you click the check stock status link on ADT we go out and check the stock status at their site in real-time. Unfortunately if the store's status on the site is inaccurate we'll report the status inaccurately too.

I would guess that your back ordered item was simply just a mistake in their inventory system. From what I remember their inventory system is real-time based on current available quantities and pending orders.

Their stock status appears to be off, as I ordered an instock title, that went on backorder right after I ordered it. When the title shipped, their site still showed the title as backordered for another week before it went back to instock.
I've never had a problem with their customer service though, so I can forgive them for their stock status not being 100% accurate.

I'll write to them about this. I wonder if something might have changed?

Rob, sorry to hear of your trouble with Adult Video Universe but I can relate as I've had my share of problems with them as well. Check out this ancient thread I posted some time ago detailing more of my bad experience with this company. Needless to say, I now patronize other online porn stores hosted here at ADT that do provide excellent sales and service and Adult Video Universe is now just a bad memory as far as I'm concerned. As I alluded to in my previous thread: stick to the stores you've come to know and trust!

I've had to cancel so many orders from them because of the above issue, they were only able to fulfil one out of five orders that I placed with them, but to be fair, if the DVDs really were in stock the service was pretty good.

"In stock" is quite a different thing from "usually ships in x Days". It's the "usually" that makes all the difference, doesn't it? So Adult Video Universe (they do business as CD Universe) is not actually fibbing here, more like obfuscating the situation. My personal experience has been extremely good with ADV - from two standpoints. Their prices are low, and more importantly to me, titles that *do* go on backorder eventually come in a high percentage of the time. In fact, they are the BEST store I have yet come across in handling back orders. A lot of other outfits I could mention have very poor follow through, just letting the order hang forever open, hopelessly fallen through the crack. It's not true that ADV doesn't notify the customer about the status of incompleted orders. They e-mail weekly updates - my mailbox can testify to this truth. In all candor, I think the *real* problem is trying to equate "In stock" with "Usually ships in x days". Perhaps Adult DVD Talk should make an adjustment in philosophy.

There's no gray area or room for adjustment from my perspective. (other than turning off real-time stock status for this store.) We don't look at their product page and decide that "usually ships" means an item is in stock. We use a special stock status page on their server. There's only one of two responses on this page: instock or backorder. Unfortunately, we can only report the info that they give us.
