Not having a lot of luck at the moment trying out new retailers. Received a notice from Royal Mail saying that i needed to pay a customs fee for a package before i could collect it. Oh great! The amount was £17.01, a little surprising seeing as they value of the 2 dvds i ordered was only $40 (including shipping). I went to the collecion depot and asked to see the package. The customs declaration read $100! Needless to say i refused the item and it's been sent back to adultdvdexplorer. God knows how they made that mistake, but i've asked for a refund on my card. Not impressed.
You have my greatest sympathy sir,nothing more annoying when things go wrong,i've used explorer quite a few times,but not recently and everything was ok as i have with erodvd also,but after probably 40-50 orders over the last 5-8 years,i had an occasion last year with erodvd.nl where i ordered and paid for 14 discs in one order and they only sent 3..i had 5 or 6 emails to get them to refund(and even then they reckon it's my address that's the problem lol) and now they refuse to ship to me,which is a shame as they stock titles i can't get elsewhere,but i wasn't prepared to lose payment of 11 discs in order to continue doing business with them.I only use chargeback as a very last resort as it can jeopordise future purchases with retailers but sometimes it is the only avenue left,hope things get sorted and thanks for sharing your experiences with us once again.BTW i've just placed an order with xrentdvd having being recommended to them by a mod from here so if it's of any interest i can let you know how that goes if you don't already use them.
I switched to Xrent DVD recently (had been using Lasers Edge) and I've found them very good. No pricing declaration problems and they bubble wrap the discs and covers inside the priority envelope. Recommended. Pretty quick to ship too. I've also found Adult DVD 69 to be reliable on a few orders that I've placed with them. Hope this helps.
I like to use a lot of different retailers and spend a lot of time going through the price search to get the best deals. So far i have had good experiences with: Adultcdmovies X-Rent Adultdvdempire Moviesbymail Action-dvd Adultdvdnow Adultdvd69 (no longer on ADT) Adultdvdtoday (no longer on ADT) Playtimecinema (no longer on ADT) Erodvd Orgazmik Adultvideouniverse are ok but absolutely insist on full value declarations and shipping boxes.

But don't you still have to get the dvds in the country before you can send them out in the UK mail system? As they are not R18 and they are presumably in large enough quantities to not be considered for 'personal use'....they have to be imported with 'care'? Actually Jacco, how does the whole R18 business work? The BBFC announce that cuts need to be made to a particular title. So does it all go back to the original studio (say Evil Angel) for editing, or does a UK distributor have the rights to sell and amend the footage? Does a UK sex shop typically only buy dvds from a UK supplier? Is that why they are so expensive?
With great 'care'...It goes back to the company that supplied it to the BBFC, sometimes that is the studio, sometimes the distributor. Depends on who does the printing, since you have to put the R18 logo and the certificate number on your disc, you will always have to do a separate print run for the UK, one of the things that adds to the price for UK customers.Most do, and there are only a limited amount of suppliers in the UK, some of which are famous for their price gouging. They pay the studio crap, charge a lot to the retailer and he then has to pay the bloody licence fee for his shop too, which can literally run into many 1000s of pounds a year. Jacco
Yes the licence fee for a UK sex shop is ridiculous. In some districts it's over £10,000. Is it true that a new application is non refundable? You lose the fee if your application is rejected?
The fees I've heard range from a few hundred quid (quite reasonable) to several times the amount you mentioned, Sir W! I don't know about refunds, but I think you only pay the full fee after you get your permit. There could be a (lower) application fee, which is non-refundable. Maybe Melonfarmers has more info on it. I did look on melonfarmers and google but couldn't get that exact information. Maybe once you apply you can not change your mind and pull out after submitting the fee? Do you need a licence for a sex shop in Amsterdam? Is it something Yourchoice ever considered? Is Amsterdam Redlight district looking different since reports that a third of the area had been sold to the council for housing/shops etc..?
I've not long returned from Amsterdam and yes the redlight area does look quite different...well more scaled down really,and i think it'll be a lot smaller by the time they've finished.Noticed a few store's were closed since my previous visit,a shame really.Still worth going atm though.
I don't know about sexshops in Amsterdam, YC has never considered during the years I've worked there. They are putting fancy yuppie stuff (fashion, coffee houses, the crap) in the buildings the city bought, not an improvement in my opinion. I like the Redlight district, great bars and restaurants, which I fear will close when the tourists stay away when they kick out all the prostitution. Not to mention that it will drive prostitutes underground again, not good. Jacco
