Advice on how to start producing porn?

But it's occurred to me, that even the UK is full of young aspiring anal whores and yeah right I have too much of a stereo-typical view of 'the biz' but seriously, there's a lot of this stuff going on in the UK and I want to get in on it for two reasons - firstly it'd be awesomely hot to meet aspiring starlets and to witness them doing their thing myself, and secondly it's lucrative (yeah that's right I'm more interested in it for the 'rush' than for the money). One thing I know is that if I start doing this I'd be just doing one on ones, because that's more cost effective (only two people to pay... but I could do with hiring a crewman because I gotta' be honest I'd be nervous doing this myself and I wouldn't even be performing lol). A bit of advice I could really do with is where online can I advertise for casting? And is there some sort of networking place online somewhere where aspiring stars and producers can meet (online) to discuss working together etc.? Also what kind of wages would I be expected to pay? I mean I saw on Television X that they will pay £250 for all tapes that they use (which is another reason I'd be looking to shoot anal - I figure more chance of it being used). I would actually be willing to pay actors more than I pay myself to start with because they'd be doing me a favour and let's be honest they're doing the good work. But there's a load of legal stuff to watch out for too right? I know in the US porn can only legally be shot in some states right? California, Florida, Nevada and Michigan I think... anyway, I think in the UK its legal everywhere right because I know it's being shot practically everywhere in the UK? But don't I also need a licence/permit to shoot? And do I need insurance? (AKA would I be liable if there were to be an STI transmission on one of my shoots? Do the big studios find themselves liable when that happens? I mean like even with STI's other than the big bad?) And do I need to register with agencies so that they could send actors my way? Is that required? And can I get in trouble for paying too little? (I don't intend to rip anyone off and actually I would hate to do that... it's just that I currently have limited finances) Also is it ethical/allowed to sell one tape to various channels/websites/distributors? So say I shoot a scene, can I only sell that scene to one distributor? I would figure so... it's a shame I'm incapable of creating a website because that would be helpful, to just start my own website. But computers ain't much my thing. Oh yeah and my living conditions mean I'd have to rent out a flat to shoot in which kinda' sucks... ...see so I'm thinking about trying to recruit a partner - somebody who would be willing to work with me on this and preferably have a place to shoot... I even know a guy, unemployed, 99% sure he's a porn fan, but I haven't seen him in ages and he's kind of a rotten egg in my social circle by now lol. I tell ya' it feels like the easiest bit is actually finding actors... well girls anyway. Finding guys is probably harder since that actually requires quite substantial talent. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but just because you think you are great in bed does not mean that anyone else will think so and more importantly will want to pay for the stuff you produce. If you do some research than you should be able to find one or two recent threads with a similar subject. The information on those threads should open your eyes to reality and you will instead use the education you got and get yourself a nice job with decent wages and health benefits. [Link]

Are they and similar sites paying for amateur content, is that what you are going for? Or professional vids, ie you say hot aspiring starlets, and for that do you have any relevant experience, filming editing etc.. again no experience myself but expect more to it than rent room, buy camera, pay talent, aaand action! ..? I think the porn biz has suffered from attracting too many of the types of people who just don't have a plan to do something a little different. The recipe for success in porn (as it is in any business) is constant innovation. Doing the same thing everyone else is doing will only keep you afloat so long. Those who do the same thing better than everyone else will stay afloat longer but they will still start to sink if they don't eventually bring new stuff. And yes. Actually having a passion for it and actually wanting to do something different definitely should help. After all what's the point of starting up a new car company just to build a Ford with a different name? I don't want to make "big cash", just some cash, and I meet hot chicks every day because they're everywhere. I want to meet chicks who have the awesome trait of being willing to fuck on camera, and I want to film them doing that. Anyway what do you mean by build a better mousetrap? You mean like I want to improve the quality of porn? That's one thing I'm really interested in doing. I like the idea of a website dedicated to amateur porn girls doing anal or even better girls who are relatively new to porn doing anal. My plan is bare and short on cash yes but that's how a lot of ideas start. I'm literally at Square One of a hundred or more squares. The friend I haven't seen in a few months. I'm not talking about professional actresses I'm talking about girls in their early days. I do have relevant experience in filming and editing yes. So what more than rent room, buy camera and pay talent do you expect? You're talking about licencing and legal stuff and such right? The section where you talk about hiring actors was a little confusing since you mentioned that you would be willing to pay them more than you pay yourself. I think that if you read through the other thread with a similar subject then you will quickly discover that if Television X pays £250 for videos then the only people able to make any kind of money are those that shoot themselves with their girldfriends. Hiring anybody to have sex with you or anyone else will be more expensive than what you'll get back from the sell of the video. [Link]

Click to expand First you need to research who is buying product. When you get a quote on how much a distributor will pay then you can set a budget for your films. Then you raise the money and approach an agency to hire talent. If you choose to hire "young aspiring anal whores" who don't have an agent, then you approach them with the job offer. You can, of course, produce a few scenes or an entire film before you learn about distribution. After your film is shot you then approach distributors and offer it to them for a price that returns you a profit. [Link]

The two above posts are more what I was trying to say.. if going Television X for 250 quid how will that be lucrative, will it be amateur content or better wording girlfriend vid shooting, or if you are going to produce a scene or whole movie (with talent, location etc) what experience do you have in producing a quality video product that is salable. You said you have relevant experience, cool, I didn't get that impression when you said no computer skills and only contact is an unemployed mate. Also did sound like you were trying to establish a business not shoot a couple of scenes for the experience. If it is as much for the rush than the cash, you are young can make up the $$ later, have a go.. never know could be the new Tarantino of porn :) Good luck! [Link]

Everybody who has made it in porn, or anything for that matter, just started out with an idea. Seymore Butts, Jules Jordan, even Larry Flynt, they all started out with an idea. My advice to you would be, don't worry about the legal stuff first, that's a step or two down the road. I wasted quite a bit of time and money trying to get that in order first. What I should have done, is buy a camera, and start finding girls. Start shooting. Make sure you take photos of their IDs, you don't want there to be any question of the women being of age. You'll need lights too, but the best thing to do is jump in feet first. Experience is the best teacher, and sitting on the sidelines, or trying to read about how to do this, will not be as valuable as hands on, do it yourself action. Just one foot in front of the other. "What do I need to shoot a scene?" A camera, and a girl, or girls. lighting is important, but if you had to, you could shoot outside. Get some stuff shot though. [Link]

Maybe there is a film school near you? Could you start by making a documentary about something? I agree with the others who encourage you. If you really want to do this, you have to try and give it a good effort. Maybe you will find out you are very good at it, or maybe you will find out you don't really like it. But at least you won't always be regretting that you did not try it. I always thought there was a market for a good spanking-and-anal genre of porn, and you being in the UK might just be the one to start it! [Link]
