I remember hearing from someone that Herpes is not tested for in the mandatory AIM tests for Adult talent. Is this true? Is it basically just accepted as part of the job?

It's basically accepted as a part of living.

It's only a problem if you insist on having kids.

If AIM screened for herpes and weeded out everyone who has GENITAL herpes 75% of the talent pool would be out of work permanently overnight. Which IM Not So HO may not be a bad thiong.

^ If someone has herpes and is having a kid they need to inform the doc so the baby can be monitored especially around delivery time. If there's an outbreak at the time of birth a c section is performed. If not then vaginal delivery is usually safe. Anti viral meds can be used to suppress the virus also. About 20 to 25 percent of all pregnant women have herpes according to one site I read.
I think there's a vaccine for HPV. If I'm not mistaken it's taken in a series of 3 shots. The state of Texas was trying to make it mandatory for all school age girls, entering public school. AIM should be handing that vaccine out like Starlight Mints during Halloween to all the girls who want it.
Yes, there is a vaccine that covers 4 out of the over 100 types of HPV. There is also a vaccine for Hepatitis A and B. Not for C or D. There is no vaccine for HSV. Strains of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea have become antibiotic resistant.
yeah if they screened for herpes there would be no porn industry.... that is how many people have it.... sad but true.... if 1out of 4 americans have what do you think the ratio is with porn "im the girl your mother warned you about"
That is not true. The four strains that were chosen for the vaccine are most frequently associated with cervical cancer. There are six strains believed to be associated with cervical cancer. The other 100+ aren't typically found in conjunction with cervical cancer. However, of the 4 the vaccine covers, NONE of those are associated with visible genital warts.
FYI: HSV 1 (oral) and HSV 2 (genital) are the same virus. It just depends on where the virus has decided to lodge itself in your nervous system (base of the brain stem vs. base of the spine). Therefore, if the mouth of someone with HSV1 comes in contact with any other mucous membrane (i.e., your genitals), the virus can be passed on as either HSV1 or HSV2. Self-reinfection is also possible... so if you like blowing yourself, watch out.

Let me clarify the above. If someone kisses you and they have genital herpes it doesn't mean you will get it. If they are having an outbreak on the lips however you have a fairly good chance of getting it on the lips. Now if they have an outbreak on the lips and kiss your genitals then you stand a good chance of getting it on your genitals. It takes transference pretty much directly. I hope this makes sense !
It is not mandatory to test at AIM! Whatever test your partner is willing to accept is good. AIM just tries to achieve a monopoly, but there are many places which offers these tests. Legally you don't have to be tested at all if your partner accepts working like that. Lately AIM prints an expiration day on their test. That is complete bullshit. A test never "expires". It just shows you a result for a certain day. It is up to your partner or the production company what time frame they accept. In my personal experience that varies from 2 days to six weeks. I personally don't think Herpes is a problem, but I don't understand why not more people test for Hepatitis C and Syphilis. In Budapest, that is standard. Steve Holmes
Actually two different viruses, but you can catch either one in either place. There is some evidence to support that having one type confers at least partial immunity to the other. Some studies I have seen suggest that up to 80% of the adult population has some form of HSV in the US.

^ Good point and I agree with Steve Holmes. It's not a major problem. Not that you should want to have it. Like I said it's just a part of life for many many people. Mostly just an annoyance.

AIM offers all of the tests mentioned here (HSV, HERPES, HEPATITISABC}, SYPHILLIS ETC) AIM does not enforce or make any rules for the industry. It is the PERFORMERS who decide which tests they have done on themselves and which test they require their partners to have. AIM CANNOT legally do any test on anybody that is not requested BY THE PATIENT. It is as simple as that. Stop blaming the charity 'for not doing enough' when the performers themselves do close to nothing to improve THEIR system HSV and HEPATITIS A@B vaccines are available at AIM and you can also get a VALTREX prescription for your herpes.(at greatly reduced prices). Steve HOlmes is correct that in Budapest the performers also test for HEP c. Why dont the U.S. performers require this of eachother?(BECAUSE there is absolutely no organization of any kind for the performers and that is because that is how the producers and agents want to keep it) The EXPERATION DATE, is just to make it easier for performers to see how old the test is. It is the TALENT that have made the 30 day test experation "RULE", not AIM. AND WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THE THREE SETS IN THE VALLEY THAT WERE VISITED BY CAL-OSHA THIS WEEK? COULD THERE BE A CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE GOING ON HERE?
Belladonna stated on her website that [ invalid url ]. Sharon Mitchell declared the Herpes infection rate to be about 66%, which could very well be on the conservative side as far as estimations go.
In my short time in the industry so far, I've had one cold sore outbreak, and I didn't work for two weeks while I waited to heal. It sucks, but most people practice professional courtesy. If I were to show up on set to find a guy who had an active genital or oral outbreak, I wouldn't work with him, nor would I expect him to work with me if the roles were reversed. That said, a lot of people have some form of the virus at some point or another, and if you do a little research, you'll learn that there's also a number of people who never present symptoms but carry it anyway. HSV is one of the most pervasive human diseases out there, and only picked up the amount of negative force it has now in the late 70s. Once again, the mainstream media made a big deal out of something that is really nothing, and now people freak out about a very manageable virus.

^ Good for you for waiting so long before you worked again. Blossom, while it is up to you to figure out what you are comfortable with, IF you decide to work without condoms, it would be extra important to do a visual sweep of your scene partner(s). Face, arms (track marks) and genitals especially. Don't forget that even with condoms, if the person was just finishing getting over a cold sore and you didn't notice anything on their lip and they did oral on you, there's a small chance they might still be infectious and tranfer the herpes to your genitals. Also, in some cases, the herpes sore could be RIGHT at the base of the penis shaft, so if the condom moves up and down a little during penetration thrusting, you could come in contat with a sore. I don't want to make it seem like herpes is such a non-important thing, just in the big picture of STDs, there would be bigger reasons (Hepatitis, HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea) to insist on condoms.
I'd hardly call a incurable virus that is with u for life and returns in outbreaks nothing. It may be manageable, but its still not something I want to "willingly" carry around for the rest of my days. *****The Dr. of Nasty*****
I don't know that it's worth freaking out about as much as we do is what I mean. Like a lot of people, I get cold sores, and I really don't want the genital variety, but it isn't a death sentence like some of the others out there can be is what I'm saying.
As far as I've read, the companies ARE looking for curs and vaccines. As of now though, Abreva is the only OTC antiviral on the US market, and there's other stuff out there by prescription. I guess Shingles is a form of Herpes too and is related to Chicken Pox, and though I don't know the science, I know they vaccinate for Chicken Pox, so there's hope. For now, people just have to be considerate.

It will apparently surprise you to learn that not everything is possible if only you throw enough money at it. Vaccines and other medicines are DISCOVERED, not created like a new ice cream flavor or something. You may be sure that vaccines/cures for these diseases will be along just as soon as they can be, that is, IF they can be. You will also be surprised, I guess, that just because a disease exists does not mean there IS a cure for it.
After reading through this thread, I'm surprised at the nonchalance regarding having/contracting a life-long condition. From what I've gleaned here, the attitude seems to be, "everyone has it, so why bother to test for it?" If industry performers appear to be this lax about STDs in their professional lives, then what's going on in their personal lives?

It's not about laxity. Any profession you choose has risks. If you're smart, you understand what those risks are ahead of time and make an informed decision about choosing that career. That's all that's going on here. BTW, there are FAR riskier professions than porn: the military, for instance, or professional sports. Are professionals in those fields also lax? Besides that, the disease in question here is Herpes, not ALL STDs. Any person who has multiple sex partners is as likely to have it as any porn actor. While I have BIG problems with the industry's precautions against STDs, they DO take precautions and are VERY aware and careful to avoid the dangers. They are far from being 'nonchalant' about the risk and, in fact, I'd feel a Hell of a lot safer having sex with a porn star (dream on, old man, for alas, your dreams are all that's left you!) than with anyone else I didn't know well.

This is terribly and I know I'm letting myself in for it, but I'm curious, so what the hell. Clayra Bow (terrific stage name, by the way}, you say in your profile that you've taken up porn to finance your art. Where might one be able to see/purchase that art, and what media do you work in? Of course, best wishes for a wonderful and hugely profitable career.
I think you're dead on with that attitude. It's something I considered carefully before starting on this career path. I know men who've worked the Alaskan fishing boats out of Dutch Harbor the last twenty years, and I guarantee their profession is WAYYYY more dangerous than mine. I've also read that there's a lower incidence of STDs within the porn community than there is the general population. If I can find that again, I'll post it, but it may be from the AIM Healthcare site
I'm a little unusual with my art. I've worked in paints (and had my first show in Milwaukee last year), but lately I've been concentrating on textiles and fashion. I'm currently working with some artists in Milwaukee making BDSM gear, but all out of yarn. I just finished a corset actually, and I think a strap on harness is what I'm knitting next. The plan is to try and do a show later this year, with models wearing/using the knit gear, so hopefully I'll have something to show soon :)

Thanks much for the reply. It penetrated my thick skull after I asked about your art that It was probably tantamount to asking for your real identity. I didn't intend to do that and I apologize for even appearing to try. Yarn BDSM gear sounds very intriguing. I'm sure you've considered that there might be a very big market for that outside the BDSM Community. It would be comfortable, VERY individualistic and if it's as figure flattering as the rest of that gear is, you could have yourself a real winner. If there is someplace to SEE your stuff that keeps you anonymous, I'd love to see it. Perhaps you could post some pictures of it yourself. Anyway, thanks for answering.
