Lot of tattoos and piercings. Spiked hair or hairdos like little girls would wear like bangs and pigtails. Lot of them are lesbians. That's the look for the girls. In general I hated the look. I don't like women who look like boys. It's just not that sexy to me. The curvier girls like Joanna Angel and Charlotte Stokely could pull it off but the skinnier girls look like boys. For example, Dana Dearmond and Kimberly Kane are much hotter now that they dumped that riot grrl look. I think Joanna Angel was the first do take the riot grrl look and shoot hardcore porn with girls that had that look. But Vivid was the first to coin that term "alt-porn" I think? Vivid's alt movie directors seemed to like the retro 70s or 80s look or lof artsy fartsy type stuff. Some of them were shot by failed film student rejects like Ashley Blue's husband. I give Vivid credit for doing it because I hated the crap they put out with Paul Thomas directing and the alt stuff was more hardcore with anal and rougher sex. Some of them were directed by Kimberly Kane also. Overall I think a couple of them were pretty good but most were kinda weak. But in general I preferred them to the crap Paul Thomas put out.
