what should i choose ?
are AMD as good as Intel or is it safe to ignore them all together ?
was looking at this system any thoughts ?

Although I'm not really based in the Phenom tech yet, I'd still say Intel.
I did some quick lookups on Tom's Hardware and it still looks to be sub-par when compared. Personally, I'd save a lil cash and go dual core. As of now there's still no real software that uses the 2 cores, much less quad cores. I'm on a E6600 with 2GB of RAM and she screams, but I sure would like a faster CPU at this point... Then again I'm a tech whore.

Because of the popularity of the E6600, when I bought my PC over they summer, it was actually a little less expensive to get a Quad Q6600 put into my machine than the E6600.
Even now, the lower end versions of these CPU's are pretty similar in price. Since the machine, that Luke linked to, has a 2.2GHz CPU, I think that the lower end versions are an appropriate comparison.
On the current version of the PC that I bought, the Q6600 2.4GHz Quad is only $65 more than the E5500 2.33 GHz Duo.
The 2.66 GHz E6750 appears to be the popular choice now, with the 3Ghz E6850 & E8400 models costing the same or less than their slower counterpart.

Guess I didn't pay attention to how close the prices are! Hell might as well if it's that close.

Don't get me wrong. In the newer, faster CPU's the price difference between a Duo and a Quad is still big. The price difference between an 3.0 GHz E8400 and either of the two 3.0 GHz Quads is about $700.

Conq -- i need a new PC and have had bad issues in the passed with AMD and wated to know
if they were as good as intel now .
and reason for needing a new PC this one is over 4 years old and on it's way out .
if there is a PC anyone can recomend that can be upgraded over time plese feel free to add a link

I said it before, but I'd go Intel. Going on comparisons, the two CPUs head to head, I like the Intel over all.
