Directing in the adult world can be both rewarding and difficult. I got my first break as a performer (8 years ago) thanks to su & Chris at Anabolic. I also fell in Love with Alana on my second set ever (my Dad's house was the location). Since then it has been a crazy roller coaster of love and porn, and the love of porn.
So now I'm Directing, Editing and doing Graphic Design for Anabolic. I was lucky to land my job at Anabolic after some 2 years of directing, performing, and editing for Extreme Associates. My point is that breaking in as a Director is even more difficult than trying to become male talent. Anabolic has always had a reputation for it's commitment to excellence and now things have really gotten better. Anabolic directors Ivan, and Tony T are delivering some of the best footage we have seen in years. I look forward to adding my own flavor to the mix.
I have been focused on reality based shooting because I'm so over the standard monkey see monkey do fisher price my first porn type of directors out there. It's like people for the most part only know how to copy or steel ideas. Not to mention the all to obvious process that if a company pays enough then they win awards deal. It's heart breaking that we don't have a system that can give awards to the deserving as well as the financially capable. Apparently shit movies with shit acting and shit directing can win a lot of shit, how did that happen?
In closing I would like to congratulate all the hard working porners who continue to produce and innovate in our industry. I wish everyone the best and I hope to continue to give the biz everything I have to offer (even though my mom keeps telling me to get a real job..lol)

Great insights,
But is reality porn any more or less inventive then anything else out there?

Not that it's more or less inventive, it's just a way to stay away from the cookie cutter porn formula that sooooo many people just copy over and over again. I'm just saying that whatever type of movie or content you want to create just be original about it..

Companies are afraid to be different. Why? Because they are afraid that if there product doesn't look just like company ABC and XYZ, it won't be picked up by distributors. For this reason everything these days looks the same sitting on store shelves.
Distributors only care about the DVD cover look, and getting the lowest price they can from a studio. The buyers don't watch and don't care what is on the DVD. They don't have a f'ing clue as to what is crossing their desks or what the consumers really want. The Good and noteworthy productions just get lost in the sea of garbage that the distributors take in. The blame goes directly to the distributors for the glut of "shit movies" on the market. If they really knew what the hell they were buying from companies, a lot of the "shit movies" would get filtered out.
Advertising dollars equals awards.... its all part of the vicous sales cycle. Amongst the well deserved is also a lot of smoke and mirrors. This is the only business where mediocrity is recognized and rewarded.

Chris,
Do you know if Tony T. is planning on making another POV movie? I mean not like the recent efforts where he injects his POV into scenes with other guys, but just 1 on 1 POV like he did for Perverted Point of View at Diabolic.
Let him know that he has a huge fan over ADT that thinks he is the greatest POV shooter ever. It would be a shame not to get the latest batch of ladies caught in some awesome POV action (hopefully with anal) that only Tony can deliver.
Thanks!!!

Isnt the opposite true now ? If I look at the best selling US labels in Europe, these are WICKED, JJ, Digital Playground, also especially lesbian titles from Pureplay etc.
With the exception of JJ, all of the other labels arent US mainstream porn targetted to men only. JJs covers are great eyecatchers, if he would use normal covers, sales/rentals would be much lower.
Dont know the situation in the States, but here in the Netherlands, partly in Germany, too many customers are bored of the Red Light District/Anabolic/Diabolic whatever stuff.
Market was also destroyed by a flood of cheap US porn samplers.
Production values and professinonalism surely were top at Anabolic, but I never found one single movie that had only one innovative idea. Or a story. ( Both would be perfect )

I get what you're saying, and largely agree. But, when you look at Evil Angel and JJV, clearly they have built a brand that resonates with both distributors and consumers that is based on more than just flashy boxcovers. Both companies make sure they're putting out quality product on every single release, which (I believe) is why they are able to command a higher price point for their titles.

Wow I had no idea that people would even care at all about this topic, but thanks for all the input.

True that T is killer with the POV. Not sure about a line for it, but he still mixes it up in the scenes here and there.
