Yes it is! I have several.

Don't expect gonzo hard sex, but think of it as having a beautiful Playboy or Penthouse photo spread going into motion.

I agree with DenverDon. I personally like Andrew Blake's style of porn movies. He makes porn classy and stylish. They may be tame comapred to other porno films (especially the "extreme" porn), but I would say that they're worth seeing. My suggestion: "Hidden Obsessions". I think that this is his best movie (and it's my favorite porno movie). If you can only afford to buy one of his movies, that is the one you should get.

There's absolutely no one in adult who can beat Blake's cinematography; it's mainstream quality. As long as you don't mind a whole bunch of T&A, solo girl, and girl-girl that's more erotic than explicit, then you'll probably like Blake. In my mind, Blake's work looks better than the best stuff that Playboy has ever put out.

I can understand why gonzo-fanatics and those who only like the heartiest of hardcore might find his work pretentious and boring. However, I think that he's one of the best erotic filmmakers ever, and a true artist of this genre.

Here's my overall opinion on the man and his work:
ANDREW BLAKE

But very quickly, I absolutely think that flicks like NIGHT TRIPS (despite the abysmal DVD production by Caballero), PARIS CHIC and HIDDEN OBSESSIONS (both produced by his own Studio A company) are well worth their retail prices.

Thx everybody, very kind of ya to respond. I'll give him a try.

Based on my readings, I'd like to try one with Kyla Cole and Justine. That seems to limit my choices to EXHIBITIONISTS or THE VILLA. Which one do you all favor for a Blake first timer? The reviews on DVDEMPIRE seem to slightly favor EXHIBITIONISTS.

Diesel: I just LOVE "Voyeur 18." So I was happy to see you review it so high :) I'm not expecting Blake to be like that but maybe our tastes are similar.

For what it's worth, my vote would be for Exhibitionists... although The Villa does have it's points as well. And actually, I think my favorite among Blake's newer stuff is Girlfriends. If you like Justine, you can't really go wrong with Girlfriends. :)

And as has been alluded to, if you haven't seen some of Blake's earlier work, like Night Trips, Night Trips II or Secrets from Caballero, I would HIGHLY recommend you check them out. They are completely different from his newer stuff.

Liam , or anyone else for that matter I would strongly recommend you read this thread if you are at all interested in Blake and his work . The quality of the discussion blew me away when I first saw it and it captures the willo-the-wisp nature of his films just brilliantly .

One of the other things that I like about trying an Andrew Blake picture is that I can get a Foreign release. Although there are notable exceptions, the pictures I enjoy most seem to be foreign. So in my selection process I was limiting it to ones with foreign performers.

I'm definetly going to put seeing Night Trips on my list of movies to check out though.

For a first-timer I would recommend "Aria". Of his old hard-core movies I liked "Secrets" best, with Zara Whites and Rocco Siffredi. You need to watch a Blake movie through, allowing the erotic subtext to well up. Get rid of tremulous lust beforehand in some comp or run-of-the-mill gonzo. I agree Blake is the best sex-shooter ever was, and even turned timid he defines "beauty" in porn. You'll be bored to death if your're just looking to get off, though.

Diesel!

I am surprised that you of all people did not know Caballero cleaned up NIGHT TRIPS and re-released it as a "Special Collector's Edition."

Do a search on the forum for a post by me.

I wish Andrew Blake would get around to releasing these films: Sensual Exposure , Les Femmes Erotiques , and Unleashed .

Blake doesn't own them, Ultimate does.

Crappy but legit transfers of these are available through a Canadian distributor. I bought copies and regretted it.

The worst part? The laserdisc of LES FEMMES EROTIQUES even had an excellent separate Director's Commentary audio track!!!

GREAT flicks.

I could have sworn that I saw VHS packages of Sensual Exposure and Les Femmes Erotiques with the Studio A Entertainment label. Unleashed was one of the first films released by Studio A.

Actually, Blake_Fan, Mr. Blake states that he owns the rights to SENSUAL EXPOSURE and LES FEMMES ERORTIQUES:

From the Andrew Blake Interview:

PornstarEmpire.com: How about the timing of your releases? We notice that Studio-A will release some recent titles like Pin-Ups 2 and Aroused, and then classics like Hidden Obsessions. And now Paris Chic after Exhibitionists and Blond And Brunettes...are you releasing new stuff, then older stuff, and then new stuff...

Andrew Blake: Right...since I'm the only one doing it -- I'm kind of a one-man band in that respect. You know, I'll go up and shoot for a month, and then I'll come back in for post-production, and when I'm in post-production, I'll throw in an older title to release.

PornstarEmpire.com: Does that mean we can expect to see movies like Les Femmes Erotiques, Sensual Exposure....
Andrew Blake: They'll all be out eventually. It's just my time schedule.

PornstarEmpire.com: What about a movie that was originally released in Europe before VCA released it in the United States... Desire, starring Racquel Darrian and Savannah...was that produced by VCA?

Andrew Blake: No, that was not produced by VCA. It was originally done for Penthouse. And then Penthouse did not want to get into the hardcore market at that point, so they sold it to VCA.

PornstarEmpire.com: Do you have any rights or control over that film?
Andrew Blake: No.

PornstarEmpire.com: So anything you've done after what date would be under Studio-A?
Andrew Blake: I would say anything after Hidden Obsessions is under Studio-A's control.

PornstarEmpire.com: And videos like Possessions, Unleashed and so forth will be released on DVD from your company...
Andrew Blake: Right. Like I said, again, it's just up to my time schedule.

Thanks for the correction Diesel, but I find that depressing.

The first time I talked to Blake it was about a small film he made called PRIVATE PROPERTY. He had given Excalibur Films the rights to distribute it, and I wanted to make sure he understood "how" they were distributing it. He seemed very concerned about the quality, what one would come to expect from a true artist.

Well now with your revelation, that means he approved those attrocious DVD transfers of SENSUAL EXPOSURE and LES FEMMES EROTIQUES by the Canadian Distributor!

I liked it better when I could blame Ultimate.

Well, at the very least, we know that someday Studio A will release LES FEMMES and SENSUAL soon. (God knows when...I've been waiting for Vivid's special edition of BAD WIVES since it was announced [unofficially] by Vivid Representative Jim Monroe at AVN in 2001.) But lately, Blake has not been releasing as many titles like before. I'm going to try to ask him what's going on this January...

Actually, I came up with that one on my own.

Although I can't take all credit. Plato argued that the existence of "forms" point to a divine being.

Just curious what Andrew Blake looks like. Anyone know where to find a picture of him on the web? How old is he? I just get curious of what these directors look like that are behind the camera. Thanks in advance.

I just watched Ninn Worx's Fem Aria. It is a high quility woman on woman action like Blakes, only more hard than Blake. This is my first purchase from Ninn Worx and I will be trying other titles from them.Anyone else bought from Ninn Worx?

barrybrn:

You can see what Mr. Blake looks like in the JUSTINE disc, which offers a featurette of the man at work. Having met him myself, he looks to be in his late forties or early fifties; salt and pepper hair and beard; soft-spoken, but sure of himself, and very composed and well-mannered. He's a likable guy with no airs or pretentions.

I have talked to him on the phone, and that is precisely correct. Very well described.

Real name Paul Nevitt (the P. Nevitt listed as custodian of records on Studio-A stuff, and former Penthouse photographer IIRC)

I saw Exhibitionists and liked it. it was unlike anything I've viewed before. It's good when you want to have something erotic on but not something that's going to make you out-of-this-world horny.

I think that Justine is beautiful. anyone know how old she was when this was filmed? she looks so young. I don't like it when the women are teens. I guess I prefer them to be at least in their 20s.

There's a 49-minute behind-the-scenes video on the side B of the HardEdge DVD. You can see Andrew Blake at work, as well as see candid moments with the girls of the film, including Justine.

I'll have a review up in the next day or so on this disc, but trust me, it's a keeper!

I plan to buy "Hidden Obsessons" on DVD soon. I can't believe I haven't bought it already, but I think having it on DVD (as opposed to videotape if I had bought it years ago like I had originally planned) would be a good thing.

Been waiting years for Andrew to release "Les Femmes Erotiques" and "Sensual Exposure" on DVD. I have them on VHS and rarely ever use my VHS player. Hopefully it will be soon. I don't buy couples movies very often but Andrew is one of the best at it, for sure. I know he takes his time doing it. I wish he would at least release a approx. date for these.

Ninnworx just put out FEMME 4 with scenes between Andrew Blake's JUSTINE, CHARLIE LAINE, ISABELLA, and YANA COVA. It is very Andrew Blake like. They also have scenes with JUSTINE and ANAIS. Check for more dirty details and some on the set pix over at www.hardcoregossip.com ...
