I was wondering if there's any software which will read your disc and tell you what it's technical makeup is ? The most important things would be Regional coding and PAL/NTSC . It would be nice if it could tell exactly what the aspect ratio of the picture is as well , sometimes it's less than clear . 2.35:1 or something less ? Any help would be appreciated . I'm about to start reviewing some German discs and it would be good to find this information out the easy way . The internet hunt I'm doing at the moment can't be the only way ! Can it ?

I'm pretty sure that most of the DVD playing software will tell you the region code and format of a disc. There's nothing that will you the aspect ratio on a DVD because that data is not included on the DVD. A 1.85:1 movie looks just like a 2.35:1 movie to a DVD player. Software can only tell you if a DVD is anamorphic or not.

I agree that there's no way to tell the aspect ratio automatically. I just measure the width and height of the image and do the math.

As for the other details, DVDInfoPro is one of the more popular programs to reveal information about your DVD drive and media.

if you are running PowerDVD you can get a very detailed info page in it with all your requested details and much more :)

Thanks guys , I hadn't found that page on PowerDVD before . Very useful . Why it's under configuration instead of information is beyond me though . It looks like some DVDs that say they're Region 2 are in fact multi region , that's good to know .

Now I just need to mod my computer DVD player to accept all Regions any number of times . Well , I'm off to dvdrhelp.com ...

take a look at a software called "remote selector" it can easily change the region code without having to patch the drives firmware.

Thanks Waterproof , that's a very interesting piece of software . It looks like it breaks macrovision and forced subtitles , not to mention allowing you to skip the annoying FBI warnings at the beginning of some discs . 20 euros ? I'll think about it , and use the trial when my next mainstream region 1 DVD arrives . Brotherhood of the Wolf - Canadian edition . Should be good .

With my Panasonic DVD ROM drive
theres a software that u can download that u can apply, and it FREES the lock so it becomes multi region :D

i used that nd i can play what i like on my PC now :)
