This isn't a big thing but it bugs the shit out of me. Lex The Impaler 3 & 4 were some of my favorite releases last year. Both movies had 3 scene on one disc and the other 3 on another. They came with tons of extra and JV videos are always super high quality. I'm guessing that's why it's on 2 disc. I like the quality but I don't give rat's ass about the extra stuff outside of trailers. I just hate getting up to change the disc just to watch the rest of the title. Maybe i'm just a lazy ass but I wish they both were on one disc. How does everyone else feel about them?
Don't mind the changing the disc part, but only if disc 2 has some legit scenes on it. If it's only BTS and trailers, fuck that. That's just a cash grab.
It doesn't bother me. I usually don't watch the whole thing through from start of disc 1 to end of disc 2. I pick the disc & scene I want and go from there.
Seriously. Some are just scenes from other discs. Fuck that. Evil Angel does this a lot. The movie itself will be totally on the first disc while the second will be scenes from old films, BTS and other stuff. I can live without it and keep my $10, thank you very much.
It's funny: This are exactly my feelings about 2 disc sets! If I insert a porn flick, I want to have access to all the scenes included. While changing the disc is a mild pain, I usually like the Extras stuff as much as--or even more than--the feature itself. This is particularly true if it's for Bloopers or a BTS. So, I guess that I like the whole two-disc thing unless one of the discs is totally useless, which I haven't found to be the case too often.
I dislike DVD discs at all, so I've gone with an almost 100% digital collection. Even for the DVD's that I do own, the first thing I do is rip them to my digital media server and that is the only way I ever watch them again
I wasn't charged extra for any of the 2-disc titles I have. They are from Digital Sin, Black Ice, and Evasive Angles, (but no Evil Angel). Maybe it's certain retailers out to make some extra bucks, rather than the studio charging more for 2-disc sets?
At my work, I have to process dozens of new titles for rental every week. The cases make all the difference when it comes to initial processing, plus processing of rental returns. ^^^ I like this type of case. Easy to manipulate quickly. On the other hand, ^^^ I hhhhhhhhaaaaaate these damn flip-cases. They're a pain in the ass. The flip tray is always coming loose, or the hinges break altogether. I can see using this type of case for a 3-disc set, but for just two? It makes no sense.
If you want to watch 3 movies in a limited amount of time and they're these new expanded length multi-disc things, it can turn you into a zombie by the time you're through. That's the boo. There's also the yeehaw.--> (If you get to see people or acts you really were craving, then the added length is more of a Yeah!) Sometimes, when I'm about to pass out at 3:45 AM, I find myself wishing for a THIRD disc----for those of us who'd like to see "just the good stuff, ma'am" and move on with life. Like have the long version of the movie on the first two discs, and then do an edited down version on disc 3 for people who just want to see samples of all the strong visuals without having to wade through the other 60% of the movie and fast forward through all the gratuitous ass footage. Sometimes you get done with these 40 minute scenes and you're dizzy and confused and it's like "was any of that any good just now? It's tough to say. There were parts that started to get good, but they were sandwiched in between segments that were crap and I don't remember where the good parts were exactly in the scene and I can't recall if they were really all that good because the scene lasted so long that it became sort of an ordeal." The movies become difficult to sift through and you feel like you're gold-panning. It's unwieldy. Now if you had the edited down version like what they did for Stagnetti's Revenge (only more of a sex focus whereas they did a story focus, you know) then you'd be able to say "Hey, there's something to this scene! Now I know it's worth investing time on the full version of that one; but I think I'll skip this other scene that appears to be filmed totally from underneath her butt." Maybe once everyone's blu-raying there'll be more of a chance to include a cliff's notes version of the movie on the flip side or whatever.
3TB Raid system now, fully redundant dual images across 4 1.5TB drives in a NAS box. And I have an external backup I run as well of those RAID images. For the FIRST time in my entire life, I can honestly state that I backup every home computing device PLUS years of accumulated legal digital media EVERY night. I like it, if a release has 2 or 3 discs, especially when it comes in special packaging. I hate it when the video is compressed to death just to put four hours on a single disc.
Oh is that what it is, simply content having to be compressed. Scenes are getting longer and longer too, probably making it extra tough to get all content on one disc. Truthfully (1) disk is what I prefer since it's what I've always been used to. Is 4 hours the maximum amount one can expect for a high quality film? Seems I used to get more than enough sexual content including behind-the-scenes and even bonus footage years ago. Seriously has something changed that much? At times I feel like I'm being ripped-off. I mean if there is 6-8 hours of sex scenes I can understand, but at times, there is only 1 extra scene and very little extras involved. Edited by - aplus on 4/23/2009 5:27:30 PM

We don't like to put more than 3 1/2 hours on 1 disc, because that's when we feel that we can start to significantly see a drop in quality. We only have a 2nd disc if there is at LEAST an hour of new material (in many cases, there's much more than that). We do our best to put the movie length and extras lengths on the boxcovers, so that viewers don't end up being surprised in a bad way. My company X-Play has never released a double disc set and I agree with many of the comments. I too dislike it when 3 scenes are on one disc and you have to change to the second disc to finish the rest of the movie. With that said, our upcoming parody Not the Cosby Show XXX will be our first double disc set but we are putting the entire movie on one disc and all of the extras and bonus scenes on the other disc. This is definitely not a money grab as many suspect of other companies but we tend to put a ton of extras on our comedies and always have to lower the bit rate quality to fit it all one a single disc. Now we will be able to have the movie in the highest quality along with the extras in best visual image. Plus when a movie runs over 2.5 hours, it doesn't leave a ton of room to put everything we think that our feature comedy fans like to see. Hopefully the movie will come out in early June and many of you will like it. ^^^ No, it's every bit of media in my household. Porn of course (properly password protected), all our normal commercial DVD's (ripped from the originals), but also years of family vids, every photo we've ever taken (all the paper ones have now been scanned), all our tax files, every CD/MP3 audio track, etc. I don't even keep most of them once I've converted to digital. I pitch them. I have no use for them once they are digital. That's why I'm such a fan of website productions these days. I can avoid the whole process of buying a disc that will just end up in my recycling bin, and grab the file at HD quality without all the mid-level processing steps.
I don't mind them, if I like the whole movie. If I'm renting on a Netflix-type rental plan where I can only have so many discs out at once, the 2 or multi-disc sets can be annoying if the good parts are all on one disc and the other disc is a bust. This obviously won't work for features, but I like what Chris Streams is starting to do with his all-sex movies. If he has a 2-disc set with 6 scenes, he's putting 3 scenes, and the BTS relevant to those scenes, on one disc, and the other 3 scenes and the accompanying BTS for those scenes on the other disc. So it's like 2 movies that just happen to be bundled together. I agree with some of the reviews for Nurses that that movie could have been fit onto one disc, maybe by dropping a few of the trailers.
I think Manuel should throw in an extra scene instead of bonus scenes from his old movies (which I already own). Or at least a longer and better BTS segment. But then his movies are the best and worth every penny.
I don't watch many porn features anymore, so I'm not getting up to change discs in the middle of the plot. On the other hand, there are few movies in which I'm interested in more than one performer, so a double-disc just raises the price of seeing that one gal.

Don't you lose quality re-compressing the image again? I love the feel of something physical in my hands it feels like I truly own it. Why in the world would you throw it away??? What if your media gets corrupted? Or you get a virus? Your hard drives crash? Or you get a big screen TV and want to watch it there? That does not seem to smart to throw it away and you can always resell it!
You guys just don't get it. It's called a "media server." Rip your DVD down using HD quality and I can now watch that DVD on any attached device in my home. You will NOT lose anything you would ever see as most of my higher-end DVD's (features, BDSM stuff, etc) are done at full .ISO level images. In other words, they are perfect clones of the DVD-5 or DVD-9 image on my NAS. My home theater setup, any laptop, the small television in our "adult playroom," etc...they can all watch it. Technically, I think I'm supposed to keep the DVD as proof I own it in case the copyright cops ever come to the house. I keep the receipts instead. Also digitized. To rip it, keep it and then resell it would be illegal. I counted once. I had over 1100 DVD's in the house (about 1/5 of those porn DVD's). That's obscene. I understand some people really like to hold them, look at the covers or whatever. But I could care less....I want to watch what is on them, anytime, anywhere, on any device. I can my way...can't with a DVD. Oh and the beauty of them once digitized....I can create my own "comps" totally on the fly. I tag all my media and can set up a quick playlist of, for example, "Best of Mia Rose getting it Doggy Style while Wearing a Collar." Unfortunately....she's just NOT done enough of those scenes. :) Try that with a DVD.
i love extras knowing alot of the porn stars do like interviews and get to know alot about them, like on belladonna extras the girls all talk about there lives. I sometimes like to know how they are if i like them
That does sound pretty cool. But the collector in my I would never be able to give up my cases. I thrown smut cases away but not mainstream movies and such. 1100 DVDs.... good lord! I have about 70 Movies and 30 TV shows and my friends and family think my collection is ridiculous. Are most of them films?
A DVD is already digitized (Digital Video Disc). If space isn't an issue then why bother re-encoding the material in another format? Just copy the contents to your media server. It comes under fair use.
We still have a language problem. The content of your DVD is encoded. The coding used is not only readable by stand-alone DVD players, but by computer-based players, as well. If you want to store your entire movie collection on your computer then you can just copy your discs in the same manner you would copy any other data. At approximately 4GB a pop, if you have a large collection then this can eat up a lot of disk space, though.

Ya... and I now people who still use their 8-track players... and my mom still has her Beta machine hooked up to her TV.... Some people still know Morse Code, or talk on HAM radio too.... If you're geeked by the past, go for it.... I'd rather not, thanks. DJ's SchmeeJays... There are people out there who play the theremin too, but I don't give a toss about them either.
Space is quickly becoming a non-issue for me as extra storage capacity is getting so cheap. There was a time I was authoring all my own "comp" DVD's using clips ripped from this one or web scenes. But even burning to a DVD now is more expensive than just going with external HD storage, especially now that RAID NAS devices are becoming pretty affordable. So I've just become accustomed to doing a full .ISO-level "disc image" which is 100% lossless. It is an exactly replica of the DVD. In addition to my normal media server, I also have a Thermaltake BlacX eSATA "hotswapped" external drive gizmo. That means I can just plug in another 500G-1.5TB disk to my NAS on-the-fly. I've categorized 2 500G as Features and BDSM-themed porn. Those get plugged in and at about 5G per ISO image, that's 100 DVD's right there. Full original image quality, no conversion or re-encoding was performed. I do, however, tend to favor web-based subscription content. There, I tend to find h.264 or hi-res WMV files to my liking as my media players all support those two formats. That puts about 800MB per 30 minute scene that way. I use a Mac predominately and so I just use freebie Handbrake for all my re-encodes of DVD's when I'm not going straight for a full ISO image. Only been a few that were so encrypted I couldn't do it automatically. The final hi-res output files look great on my 52" HDTV rig all the way down to my Airbook or Netbooks and everything in-between.
Love your set-up, Lube! I have no desire to get to this point any time in the near future but some day I'd think. I just plop down with my DVDs. And rentals too yet. On 2 discs? Generally too much. I think a 20 or 25 minute scene is plenty. Actually maybe a 15 minute quickie.
Since all those people said i should man up and get blu-ray. FUCK THAT SHIT. The cheapest quality releases I saw were 29.95. Most were between 39.95 & 49.95. I know, the quality is that much better. I think porn & mainstream dvds quality is good enough for me. No way I could spend that much on one title. I get pissed paying over 20 sometimes.

Shhhh....don't tell Gunzo, but I still have a Laserdisk player set up in my media room. My original LD's of several war classics (Where Eagles Dare, Guns of Navarrone, Dirty Dozen, etc) still look and sound awesome on there. My kids take one look at my 80's-era LD's and want to know if they are my secret gold records I made as an 80's pop star. I admit that sometimes, I still try to watch them while wearing my old parachute pants.
I remember when my elementary school got a LD player. No one outside of the principal was allowed to touch it. I'm serious, if any stupid touched they got in serious trouble. I can't help but laugh when I think about it now. If I can wear my members only jacket, I'm down for watch Dirty Dozen.
