There are many posters in these forums who are big fans of feature films and have tremendous knowledge on the genre. Some even dedicate their time to review them for us. However that knowledge is scattered all over the forums.
Here's the idea. A number of posters (10-20) enter the draft. Then for every round everyone takes their turn picking in what is in their opinion the best feature movie. After every round the order is reversed and we do it again for as many rounds as we agree upon (we could do top 100). Each poster may post a small writeup for each movie if he or she desires. I'm thinking the best way to do this would be to have a different draft for every decade starting from the 70s.
I have made a template on google sheets which you can access here.

This is what I am trying to emulate. Could be a lot of fun.

Potentially. You might want to consider changing the date range. I get that you are trying to do it by decade, however, IMHO very few of the films from 70 through 73 would get included (although cutting the year 73 might be a mistake. You might do better to change the period to 73 to 82 if you want to keep a decade worth of titles. Films such as were made at the high points of the 70s were continued until 84 to some in 85, but after 85 not much so if you do a 70 to 79 and 80 to 89 I think much of the drafts would end up being late 70s for the first and the earlier 80s for the second.

What if we did it like
anything before -1984
1985-1994
1995-2004
2005-2015
The most important thing imo is when the feel for the movies starts changing. If early 80s feels a lot like the 70s then it makes sense to have them in the same category.

^ I agree that stylistic shift should dictate the categories. For that reason, I would say 1970-1976, 1977-1984. That's just me, though. Late-70s and early-80s, the product became far more polished and professional.

Are there enough movies from the the 70-76 era that people could realistically draft though or would we end up with a list of all the movies from that time?

^ There's a ton. Not sure why people think there aren't enough.

Yes, more than enough I can think of off the top of my head.

Then I see no problem doing it like that.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much interest from the community so it won't be happening.

^ Up to you, but maybe we should wait more than three days? This forum doesn't get all that many responses.

Looks cool, I was thinking of this recently. Collating the ADT 'best of the classics' seems like a good idea, kinda touched on it with the recent Damiano thread.

I would love to run it and we can wait for as long as possible for people to sign in. We already have 3.

I might be interested, I love the classics, if somebody can explain me how a draft works. I looked it up and it seems to be some sports term. I am totally unfamiliar with the concept (there does not even seems to be a word in Dutch for it).

Lets say we have 10 people participating. We randomly choose the order from 1 to 10 and then we start picking films. For example person number 1 picks the movie “The opening of Misty Beethoven” as his/her first pick. We then move to the next person in the order who has to pick any movie except the ones that have already been picked. We then move to the next person and so on. After user number 10 makes his/her pick we go into the next round but the order of the people picking is now reversed. Pretty simple concept.

Ok, I get that, so what happens in the next rounds, is it one round per period/decade?

At first, I thought this thread was about some movie idea from yet another wannabe porno script writer, so I am only just now reading it.
I have some major family issues happening this week/month otherwise I would participate---T0MB

I'm game but what do you mean after every round the order is reversed?

It would be several rounds per era (ie 1970-1976). So if there are 10 rounds each participant gets to choose 10 movies from that era.
Also when I say the order is reversed it means after going through participants 1 to 10 in one round we then go from 10 to 1 in the next round. That's usually how drafts work in order to be more fair to everyone.
Once we get down to it and the spreadsheet is ready it will be self explanatory for everyone.
So far there has been interest from:
