The main thing is that there are sites that haven't upgraded-including this one, so there are some compatibility issues when surfing. I addressed this issue very recently in this Forum. Problems such as extra columns and page numbers overlapping with other text. However, I haven't experienced a single one of those problems since I installed the full version of IE8. I just double-checked it and the version available for download is the same I have installed. I'm really confused now that you say that everything runs smooth with yours. Could it be because you were using Beta for a while and I wasn't? Do you have auto updates activated? I keep mine turned off because sometimes those damn updates create irreparable damage. I check once in while to see if the new ones have any known issues before installing them. I haven't installed any updates since installing IE 8. [Link]

Starting it takes several seconds, opening a new tab waiting for it to get ready takes several seconds. Some times it refuses to connect to some sites for a few minutes, including this one. It just feels bloated and slow. [Link]

It covers some of the issues with IE 8. If u want to be able to use all of the features on this site, you'll have to use the Compatibility View because it isn't upgraded yet. When did u install it? I uninstalled mine about a week or so ago and downloaded an updated version of it and so far have had fewer problems. I think most of the problems with IE 8 is that a lot of sites still haven't upgraded to be compatible with it. As far as being slow, is this just on occasion, or is it every time? If it's every time, that means something isn't right with your computer. The normal response time from the second you click on the IE symbol on your Desktop to when the Homepage is fully loaded should be about 4 seconds. Of course it depends on what page you're using. If the Homepage has a lot of graphics and other bells and whistles on it, it will take much longer. Just try and pick a less pimped-out site for your Homepage. To test it out, open the Browser at least 5 times to see what the average length of time it takes to fully load the page. Let me know if it's longer than 4 seconds. It is just slower than Opera and Firefox on every computer I've tried. From starting IE8 until the site actually loads and you can start using it... its slower than other browsers.. same goes for opening a new tab. but it "works" except for that. There still the occasional refusing to load a site but thats very occasional. I installed the final version once it was out.. over my the standard vista IE7. But I've seen exactly the same thing on xp machines. It just appears to be how it is with IE8. Maybe the compatbility mode makes it even worse on some sites.. but it seems slow to me wherever Im using it. [Link]

Wish I could get it to stop nagging me about XP SP3 (but this nag has been permanently installed on your computer for you and can not be disabled until you are absorbed into the collective). For me, IE6 works great. I keep my patches current (which is why XP SP3 is so pointless). My anti-virus/anti-malware paid version programs are great (AVG/CounterSpy). SpyBot helps keep my browser "immunized" from known bad urls. CrapCleaner keeps the junk from building up. I'm not going to willingly break my computer just to keep Microsoft happy [Link]

I install SP3 and IE8 on all computers i maintain, just for the security, but I advise people to use other browsers. I've never had any trouble with SP3 although I'm sure initially it might have had minor problems with programs that are updated by now anyway. [Link]

Click to expand I assumed IE 8 would be safer, and possibly the reason MS did that was to prevent the usual vulnerabilities they've had with their other versions and would potentially help sites from being maliciously attacked, but hey, it's MS. One hardly knows why they do certain things. Drew, are the changes made for IE 8 that's causing the compatibility problems have anything to do with security issues? [Link]

Until we see that IE8 is a statistically significant portion of our traffic I don't plan to waste any time on it. I don't know what's changed in IE8 from IE7. I don't think that I could be any less interested in Microsoft's latest attempt to lose market share. [Link]

Well some of the compatibility issues I've already addressed for this site, and other ones are similar on some other sites. I haven't had the overlapping problem on this site for quite some time now, even when not using Compatibility Mode. The only problems I'm having on this site now with IE 8 is if I click on Icon Legend, Markup Text, Preview, Spell Check. Most of the time the box won't load and I have to do it 2 to 4 times for it to load whether or not it's in Compatibility Mode. Strangly, URL and Upload Image rarely, if ever, does that. The only other problem I still have is if I don't switch to Compatibility Mode, E-mail Poster and Edit Message is not clickable and it won't show what it is either. I'll rephrase the question so hopefully it will make more sense. Was MS quest for greater security the reason that IE 8 has incompatibility problems from something the programmers added? I'm just wondering what in heck was the great need to change it so drastically as to cause such a problem (sites having to change things) without getting some major benefit from it. [Link]

The one I use also has a built-in right-click feature for a Merriam Webster's online dictionary and Lookup Wikipedia with the option to add words if necessary. Here is the link for anyone that's interested, and of course, it's free! ieSpell-CNET Download.com By the way, it's only for IE. Maybe FF users can find one that works just the same. I should add, when installed, it doesn't leave anything physically visible on the browser. After posting I thought I should go back and add the following: You won't even know ieSpell is there until A) you type a word into Google and highlight it then right-click, or B) you're in a Forum message box etc. where you don't need to highlight it first (unless you only want the one word checked), but just right click to bring up the prompt to check the spelling. This is so much of an issue that they have a "compability view" button on the toolbar. Though it does have a flaw in that it will let you know if a word is spelled wrong but it gives you no clue on how to spell the word correctly. [Link]

So far I am pleasantly surprised. It is light years faster than IE 7 and I haven't had anything crash yet. My two complaints so far are way too many tool bars taking up way too much space across the top of the screen and I discovered in one of my earlier posts that if you use too long of a title for a link that you will set off the Google pop up blocker when you click on the link while previewing your post. I still like Firefox better but this is a definite improvement. [Link]
