benjarmin94118 Member 6 Posts 7/22	Posted - Nov 16 2022 : 10:45PM I have a fiber connection, so it takes hardly any time to download an 10 gigabyte video, but the hard drive space fills rapidly with those gigantic files. That's more time maintaining a porn collection, since all those accumulated terabytes of data need to be backed up over a home network. Also, I don't currently own a monitor that is capable of displaying 4K, so I have no reference for how much better 4K video looks. Normally with video, I like to do a bit of future-proofing by grabbing the file with the highest resolution. But I am starting to wonder if porn technology reached the point of diminishing returns at 1080p. Any thoughts on this? Anyone find their investment in hard drive storage paid off for 4K? I save more room this way and realistically I'm probably not going to re-watch every scene I like in 4K even if I had the compatible monitor(s) Depending on your knowledge or willingness to learn you could re-encode your 4K files with HEVC (H.265) to reduce the size but still retain great quality. If price isn't an issue you could also use a cloud storage service to store your 4K files (for your personal use) and access them whenever you want; assuming NSFW content is allowed Edited by - Big_Tits_Addict on 11/17/2022 3:11:24 AM [Link]

My worry is having some software that will play these files into the future. I have some older files in WMV and a few other formats that won't play well on VLC so I have to use another video player. However, given that MP4 dominates the market those will likely be supported until long after I'm gone. As for space, my thoughts align with those of the OP. I avoid 4K simply because of the size. They take up more room on my primary drives and more room on my backup drives and don't provide me with much advantage. Even with scenes in 4K I'll download the 1080p version. Someday I may regret that, but with my collection already taking up 29 primary and 18 backup drives it's also about discreet physical space for those too. [Link]
high_flyin5 Member 729 Posts 6/10	Posted - Nov 17 2022 : 5:44PM Personally, I've found that the quality difference between 1080p and 4k isn't significant enough to justify the very large chunk of file space necessary to accommodate an all 4k library. I've tested it a couple times by viewing a 1080 & 4k version of a couple different scenes on my 4k TV and came away not really finding the difference to be all that considerable. I think future proofing is a good general practice for the most part. But if you're a person who maintains a pretty sizeable digital collection, I think it's pretty reasonable to stick with 1080p. For example Evilangel 1080p is 4Mbps at 60fps Vixen 1080p is 12.4Mbps at 24fps Evilangel is made for streaming and fast moving images. Vixen looks far better. [Link]

DJboutit2 Member 438 Posts 4/09	Posted - Dec 4 2022 : 7:19PM 4k with 26k or 27k bitrate are worth it if you have a 32" or bigger monitor I have a LG 43" flat screen good 4k looks amazing on my monitor. 4k from scenes from Hardx and FTV that are only 14k to 16k bitrate are truly a waste of space they look awful.
