Mainstream DVD sales have also declined, as has TV viewership. Media has been moving to mobile devices and online viewing for years. Isn't that the more likely cause of the decline in hardcore DVD sales? Evil Angel is now streaming scenes from their releases, and I believe you can also download them. I know not all companies are big enough to make up the lost revenue that way though. Anyway, I'm not really business-savvy and don't know the inside scoop, so I'm really just wondering if this reasoning is sound. Thanks. [Link] |

I'm a member of a site that offers a big EA library of a lot of their older/newer stuff for 15 bucks a month and they update with a different (often recent) movie several times a week. For the newest EA movies I'm a member of another site that allows me to rent/own/stream their stuff as well as lots of other studios/movies. So for a company like EVIL ANGEL even though they sell less DVDs these days they make money from giving all those various sites the rights to sell/rent/stream/download their content. plus they have their own site that probably does very well for them. This is actually a good thing for many people. Lots of adult stores have closed ove the past few years and the ones that are still open just don't stock as many new titles or DVDs as they used to. So that outlet for DVDs has dried up for many porn buyers. Many people still buy DVDs from websites but there are downsides to that. You have to pay shipping, you have to wait for the DVD to get to you, and you have to hope it actually makes it to you. In the last couple of months I've had 2 DVDs not show up. It wasn't the seller's fault...the post office screwed up. Streaming/downloading eliminates all those problems. In many cases the free porn online is supposed to only be an advertisment to show what an actual pay site has to offer. That's why many of them are older, low quality, edited and has the website's name on the screen. That type of promotion actually makes sense and isn't really that different than the previews you see in the extras setion of some DVDs. The problem is that for some people those blurry edited previews are enough for the people who don't want to pay for porn. Then of course there's the full blown scenes of higher quality that people put online that many people watch and decide with so much of that available there's no need to pay for porn. While everyone agrees online porn hurts DVD sales it's harder to say exactly how much of it is hurting the porn business overall. People still buy porn and always will. They just pay for that porn to come to them through the net. They aren't a problem. There are people who never really bought much porn to begin with and now that they can get it for free they take advantage and watch tons of it. They aren't much of a problem either believe it or not. If those people suddenly couldn't get porn for free they wouldn't start buying it if the free stuff went away. It's actually the people who used to buy porn and have stopped because they can get it for free who are having the big impact in all of this. Things are bad because of the paying customers they've lost to free internet porn. |
