SQUIDMONKEY, there are some Australian based porn companies but good luck finding them. Porn is a disorganised mess here as evidenced by poorly stocked and poorly priced adult retailer sites. I notice that a lot of these sites no longer include a category for Australian porn (which was probably never very profitable and may no longer exist).

At any rate, the only Australian porn that comes to my mind is a series I think was called "Rosie's Amateurs". If memory serves, the series hit double digits but was only released on VHS. I've never seen one and couldn't describe the quality.

Not very helpful but, as far as I know, in terms of Australian porn there's nothing to see.

rieekan333 is right, Australian porn is a very disorganised industry. There are two series that spring to mind, one is called Rosie (rosie is a contact magazine) Aussie Couples and the other is Flesh on video (Flesh is another contact mag). Both series are pretty ordinary. The only company that I know of that shoots Aussie porn is Redstone productions who do the Flesh series. Their work is crap at best. You can find some of the aussie couples DVD's at www.uncutdvds.com they have an excellent service and the biggest range of any Australian supplier that I've seen.

All of the "Rosie Aussie Couples" editions are now available on DVD (volumes 2 - 8 anyway, Volume 1 doesn't exist anymore and they weren't Aussie couples anyhow in that one). No extra features or anything , just a straight transfer to DVD. I actually don't mind them...some of the couples are young and attractive in fact and I think it makes it hotter when you know you may run into them in the shopping centre or something...

The Redstone films (which are no longer produced) varied in quality however none are available on DVD...if anyone wants a rundown of the VHS titles that were produced post here and I'll go through them (I won't bother if no one is interested in VHS anymore)...

Cheers guys!!

Well this is interesting!! Well I would have thought that it being such a large country with beautiful women there, that it would be one of the first countries to have embraced the world of adult entertainment!!

Hmmm, this could prove to be something worth checking out. If the industry is in such chaos over there, then maybe it's time for a re-shuffle and some organising!!

Cheers again

The reason why Australian porn is virtually non-existant is the fact that we have very strict laws regarding the production and sale of adult videos and magazines. From the info I've been able to gather online there is only one state in Australia (actually its called a territory) where actual production of porn is legal and oddly enough that is where our federal parliament and politicians are.

Its also illegal to directly sell porn over the counter in most states unless its in the guise of a rental library. Unless your in the A.C.T. (mentioned above) where anything goes. Mail order for adult products is much bigger than direct over the counter sales.

This has just scratched the surface of our ridiculous laws, which is why it is so hard to find good quality aussie porn.

Rieekan and The Poker,

I have been reading your thread with interest because I spent many moons working and living with multi-nationals including Aussies and Brits. They always described many of the laws and regulations that you have as Byzantine and Victorian and this certainly coloured (sp on purpose) the waters in porn and even many of the magazines on the markets.

This is not my opinion, but what I have gleaned from them when working, living, and talking with them.

It’s a real shame because you have some hot, hot babes, but it also seems to point to the reason that quite a few of your girls that have done well in the business, live and work elsewhere. Jodie Moore, now with Private is one example, and Layla Jade, I believe in Calif, is another.

SquidMonkey, you shouldn’t be too surprised at the Australian regulations and attitudes. Take a short look at the history of Australia, how it was settled and the original reasons, and the influences of the mother country got firmly transferred.

Cheers, and G’day Mates.

Denver Don>>>>

Yeah I suppose your right mate...

What a shame that we still have to live under these strict rules and regulations...

But i do know for a fact that over here in the UK, attitudes towards the industry are changing for the better, and it shouldn't be too long before we can see mainstream porn in the sex shops. The BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) has become more lenient towards adult films, and will now allow penetration shots etc etc. But no cum shots or anal scenes.

SquidM,

That sounds good and encouraging about the BBFC. Hope they make a few more steps forward.

In certain communities here, we also have some weird, and in some cases arcane laws, rules, and attitudes.

actually, the new R18 rating allows everything legal except pissing and fisting. you can buy many of anabolics/redlight/hustler titles from licenced sex shops but still no mail order porn is allowed.

Superfly,

That's good and bad. What's the use of allowing stuff, but not mail order?

We're not exactly a large country population-wise, but we've got some very attractive women and men here and it's unfortunate there's no industry to capitalise on that.
As I understand it (though I'm not as well versed as Scipio), the laws that apply to X-rated pornography refer to its prohibition only in states. Because of this legal loophole, production and sale of porn are therefore permitted in both territories - N.T. and Canberra.

A lot of retailers have offices in the major capitals but their warehouses in Canberra. I have dealt with retailers that have been based in the states but have shipped from Canberra, and I've also dealt with a company based in N.T. (but that was not a pleasant experience).

Btw, I live in Melbourne Poker.

I'm not familiar with this law or restriction. As far as I know, the pornorgaphy shops (adhering to the laws) in the states cannot offer - even for rent - X-rated pornography.
I would not recommend this title even though I'm a huge Kristi Myst fan. From what I've seen, the Buffy series is some of the worst porn ever made.
You're right there. The worst offender isn't the law though, it's the Office of Film and Literature Classification.
We're overflowing Layla Jade, I believe, is British. Though she may have lived here. And your point about the similarities between the British and Australian situation is very valid.

The laws in Australia are strict but they're not exactly rigourously applied. I've never heard of any enforcement of them at all. XXX movies are very easily available in every major city.

VHS stuff is dirt cheap, although often pirated. DVD isn't all that expensive. The sticker prices are sure high but in my experience they'll usually give you huge discounts just for taking them up to the counter. I hate to think what sort of prices I could get if I ever actually tried to haggle. I'll try not to though. Already own too much.

And everything is available via mail order! Mail order sales are huge here, but notably more expensive than from a store.

And I 'think' that you can get around the OFLC if you only sell via mail order. Not sure on that one though.

And even more often poorly pirated.
Yep, you can order X-rated porn from the territories if that's what you mean. Unless you're talking about content restrictions, in which case I don't know.

The OFLC likes to keep things vague to their advantage.

Totally off-topic but I was in a local petrol station the other night and I saw they were selling some porn DVD/mag combos (R-rated of course). I hadn't even seen a petrol station sell porn videos in the past so I thought that was a bit strange.

Is this true??? I live in Oxford, but work in London and the famous sex area of Soho isn't far away. I will have a look tommorow, during my lunch break. Hmmm I wonder what sort of prices we are talking here....

well, in yet another stunning act of lunacy our "elders and betters" decided that it's perfectly legal to import hardcore porn from other countries, but ILLEGAL to buy it mailorder from within the uk. so you can sell hardcore to the uk and you can sell hardcore from the uk, you just cant sell it to the people that live here.
