So, I've changed my avatar, and followed the method to show the change on my end, however outside of my profile it shows my old avatar. Am i missing a command to refresh my cache in Chrome? Do other people see it? ----Dread's Twitter----

^ When I clicked on this thread and looked at your avatar pic, I see this: However, when I click on your username to view your profile, this image appears on your profile page: [Link]
Ok thanks, that's what i thought. My avatar should be the bottom pic and i'm seeing the top one on the forum. Its odd. ----Dread's Twitter----

^ I'm still seeing the top pic as your avatar image, too. You said you're using Chrome? Personally, whenever I'm on ADT I am in an incognito (private) window and I always have my settings set to where no history or any other information is saved. So in the rare event when I change my avatar pic, once I've changed the pic, I will immediately sign out of ADT and then close the Chrome browser completely. When I go back to Chrome and sign in to ADT, I will see the new pic as my avatar pic. But it sounds like your issue might be something more than caches or something...when you made the avatar change, did you first delete the previous image?
We use a content delivery network that caches images for quite some time. it could be 24 hours, maybe longer (I forget) I haven't implemented cache purging yet for individual files when they are updated. I've been trying out different CDNs every few months. I like the one we're on right now and will likely stick with it. So I'll plan to implement cache purging and updating when users upload new avatars. I have a couple of months worth of ADT development work to do this summer.

When it comes to the avatar images for both users (Dread and Eliza22ibarra), I'm still seeing the old images in their thread posts. I don't get it...I always use Google Chrome's incognito windows when I'm on ADT, so cookies shouldn't be an issue. EDIT: I just logged in to ADT in a Firefox private window. When looking at Eliza22ibarra's posts, I now see her new avatar image. However, when it comes to Dread's posts, I'm still seeing his old one. Okay, now I'm even more confused. Cookies are not the issue. It's the content delivery network settings. Avatar images are sent to your browser by the i.adultdvdtalk.com server. "i.adultdvdtalk.com" and "img1.adultdvdtalk.com" are aliases for a network of hundreds of severs around the world that store and serve copies of content from the one server that runs ADT. This distributed network is called a content delivery network. Using a CDN speeds up the loading of pages for site visitors and also lowers the load on our server. I have the CDN setup to keep their copy of an image for 1 month before fetching a new one. I'll change it to 1 day temporarily until I can implement the cache-purging code. There's a programming mechanism available where I can have our server tell the CDN servers that an item has been updated/removed. This is called a cache-purge. It invalidates their local copy and forces their CDN servers to fetch the updated one from the ADT server. I need to add this functionality to ADT and we won't have these stale image problems.
The CDN might have a dozen servers in your geographic area that could be sending these images to your browser. Some of these servers might have the old copy and some the updated version. The CDN servers also instruct your browser to store local copies on your computer for up to 30 days. That's why you might see something different when you switch browsers.
This image is a snapshot of the bandwidth the CDN handled for us in the past 30 days. 6.4 terabytes for images and other static content. The goal with a CDN is to get the cache hit rate as high as possible which is why I had it set to store files for 30 days. ADT's total bandwidth each month is around 20TB.

^ ^ ^ Thanks for that very detailed explanation. I actually feel bad now...that because of my incessant nagging about this very minor issue, you had to devote all that time in making those posts to explain the cause.
Thanks for the breakdown Drew. So i'm assuming the CDN i'm pulling from has my old avatar cached. It is what it is, Just seems like i need it to resolve itself. ----Dread's Twitter----

I'm experiencing this issue right now-seeing my old avatar image even though I've deleted it and uploaded a different image. About 24 hours ago I changed my avatar image to one that has Gina Valentina in it and HARDX stamped on it. Everything was fine with that image, it started appearing as soon as I did the whole "CTRL + R" thing. However, when I came on here a couple minutes ago, I found that another ADT member had uploaded this same exact image as their avatar image. Once I saw that, I deleted my avatar image and uploaded a different pic of Gina Valentina. Despite doing the "CTRL + R" thing and logging off/back on twice, I'm still seeing the previous avatar image, not the new one. Will my new avatar image start appearing in 24 hours or is this the same issue that came up with Dread previously?

Alright, a day later and the new (correct) avatar image is now appearing.
I'm having this issue, but this time it's not with a member's avatar pic, but with the avatar pic for one of our pornstar pages: the page for Nicole Rey currently shows for me a pic of Nicole Ray (though not the same pic as in the other page).
I see this (though I couldn't download the image, had to screenshot it):
I got Flash to remove it on April 8th (not sure if he replaced it with a pic of the right girl or just deleted it) but I still see the old pic. I assume this is the same problem as described in this thread with a caching issue, but that seems like a long time for it to just be a caching issue.
I just changed my avatar recently, and it took forever for it to change but after doing all the steps (multiple times) it started showing up. When I click on my profile, my avatar is clean, but whenever I post, there's this annoying black line across my avatar. Will that disappear on its own too?

^ Now that you mention it, I too was wondering why there is a black line in the middle of your new avatar pic.
This is where things get weirder. I click on my profile, go to images, files and folders, open "quick uploads" to see all the photos I've ever posted on this site, and half the time I click on photos, the black line is in the middle, but the other half I click on photos, it's normal without the black line. Whenever I uploaded these photos on my posts for users to see the black line was never there. This black line glitch only started recently.
Edit: Holy crap! My photo is fully rendered now! I'm free!
I can't see most pictures in threads nor can I see my avatar and 50% of other people's avatar, what gives?

^ That seems to happen to me only when I am accessing ADT on my iPad. It seems like when I'm on my iPad, not all avatar images appear. On the other hand, I'm on my PC right now and all avatar images are coming up just fine.

I've noticed that philly26 changed his avatar recently and the new one has the same thing, that black line right through the middle of it.
Thanks for letting me know. I have a good idea what's causing the problem but can't fix it for a week or two. I'm currently traveling with limited internet access.

^ Okay, got it. Also, there was another issue brought up here about two weeks ago:I have to say that I do not experience this issue when I'm accessing ADT on my PC. However, when I'm accessing ADT on my iPad, I have noticed that numerous avatar images and uploaded images do not appear.

I changed my avatar a few weeks ago...first it took forever to change, then it had a black line through it and now all of a sudden its randomly gone with me doing anything. What gives!? I uploaded it again so hopefully it will work in a few days.
Update...the black line is gone and the pic is back. Idk what happened!
^I've been working on this issue for a bit yesterday and today.
We have multiple layers of static content caching in our software stack. I've got something configured incorrectly in the chain. I'm working on code that will flush cached content at all of the different layers when someone uploads a new avatar/profile image/etc.

I hope the issue has been fixed, that way I don't have to deal with it when I change my avatar image here soon. Whenever HardX decides to put up the trailer for Gianna Dior's Facialized scene, I'll be changing it.
EDIT: By the way, on a totally unrelated note...in the past week I've realized that the "Bang Head" icon does not display when I use it in a post. It's just the plain text characters that are displayed in the post.

^ I just went to do this, change my avatar pic to the one for Gianna's Facialized scene, and as expected, it's not showing. I was able to delete the previous image (Eliza Ibarra), but when I go to upload the new Gianna pic, even though I'm told the upload was successful, the image is not appearing.

^ LOL, that's the thing with me, I RARELY change my avatar image! I mean, that one I had with Eliza Ibarra had been up since December. But despite my changing my avatar image being such a rarity, there still seems to be some sort of glitch everytime I do. The difference this time is that the previous avatar image has actually disappeared; in the past, my problems were usually the previous avatar image still appearing even after I deleted it. This time, I've got no avatar image at all. I'd use that "Bang Head" icon to end this post, but as I mentioned earlier, that particular icon no longer works.

I changed my avatar pic earlier today and there's a glitch. I was able to delete the previous image (Facialized 7 DVD cover) and upload a new one (Jane's Anal Addiction DVD cover). The new avatar image actually appears in the "Images" tab of the "Profile" page. However, nearly 12 hours after making the change, when I'm scrolling through threads and looking at my previous posts, I'm still seeing my previous avatar image and not the new one. So, I'm wondering if this is just on my end and my new avatar image is actually appearing as it should for everyone else, or if the old one is still the one being displayed.

Over 24 hours since the change, and I'm still seeing my old avatar image.
Thanks for the heads-up via PM. This should be fixed now. I didn't realize there was a small change in the Oauth2 API requirements at our CDN provider. Our purge requests were getting denied there which would leave the old image there for up to 7 days from the last time they fetched it. We use long cache times on the CDN to keep the hit rates high and make the site faster.

I just changed my avatar image now, and I seem to be experiencing this same problem (in the quoted post) again. My new avatar image appears in the "Images" tab of my profile, but scrolling through my threads now, I'm still seeing the old avatar image that I deleted (Jane's Anal Addiction DVD box cover).
These kinds of issues are caching problems. I'll dig into it tomorrow. We have multiple layers of cache. A local content cache in the data center and a CDN service that caches files too. It appears the purge request to the CDN must have failed. It's possible that they updated their API and I haven't made the changes on our end or something along those lines.
In the mean time i have manually flushed the cached avatar and you should see it soon. Might have to Control+F5 or Control+Refresh to force your browser to fetch the new image from the CDN.

^ My new avatar image is up now. Thanks, as always.
Over the course of the past week I have completely restructured the internal and external caching mechanisms and rewrote the cache purging code to support the new scheme. This should prevent people from not seeing your new avatar after uploading, and a whole bunch of other issues too.
You will still likely have to hold down the Control key while refreshing a page to see the new avatar. Ctrl+refresh or Ctrl+F5 forces your browser to fetch new versions of files cached locally in your browser.
It's a handy feature. Forces the browser to ignore any locally-saved copies and fetch fresh stuff from the server. I have ADT setup to allow your browser to cache local copies of lots of frequently accessed data and keep it available for at least 30 days. This caching scheme speeds up the site significantly and saves on bandwidth for us.
