New starlet=wise, the two names I've been channeling lately are (as CJ noted): Stoya and Kristina Rose Stoya wins on her connection with the fans and all-round coolness. Kristina has the better scenes (because she's not shooting under contract) ... although Stoya has been ramping it up as DP allows ... I just feel like she's a wild filly being held back in the barn stall. Neither is exactly an obvious shoo-in like Bree Olsen was this year. Though Cassandra Calogera could be gaining on them. If FPOTY isn't a Battle Royale between all eligible Spiegler Girls, I'm not sure who else I could nominate. Maybe Audrey Bitoni from the "glamor" side of the fence. And, also as CJ mentioned, I think Jenny Hendrix qualifies as the 2009 "Coulda Been" Starlet of the Year. Fast outta the gate and then spun out in the turn. She also had what I call "The Curse of Arin" on her. So maybe she was doomed from the get. And least she didn't get the boob job so maybe she can stage a credible return to form ... Oh fuck what am I saying: Starlet of the Year: JANDI LIN! Done. But that's my personal vote. I still think she's a bit of an outside choice even though she had the best scenes.

Last month, I had an at-length but unofficial discussion with Dan Miller about possible Best New Starlet nominees. He said that just because a girl may have shot a few movies in September of 2007, that didn't mean that her eligibility period for Best New Starlet was done. Even if she had shot a couple in August that managed to get released in September 2007, if 2008 was her breakout year, then it was more likely that she would be considered eligible during the October 2007 - September 2008 time period. I told him that my favorite new girl of the last year was Jandi Lin. I also recommended Tori Black and Mya Nichole. I personally typed all 3 of those names into the nominations submission website. He and I discussed whether or not someone like Rachel Roxx would be eligible for Starlet THIS year, and he said that the voters at AVN were already discussing it. Also, regarding Loona Luxx - I think that because during the first half of the year she did her movies as a Foreign Performer, that she could have a decent shot in that category.
@Narcissus: two things. 1) My point (I feel like I'm saying this for the third time) is not to defend AVN, or justify their choices, or whatever else. My point is that you claim that they are breaking a specific rule that is clearly set out in stone, and I'm saying that no such clarity exists, and as a result, they can't be accused of "breaking" anything. Saying you disagree with them is one thing, but you're actually accusing them of some sort of dishonesty and/or corruption and/or deception and/or outright lies, which is a much more serious accusation. 2) Read the post by Tricia above this one. There you have word from Dan Miller, an AVN person, that someone who made a flick prior to the eligibility period can still be considered for the Best New Starlet Award. End.
At first, reading this, I didn't understand why frequent masturbators would be all up tight and bickering over noms when they should be in a relaxed refractory state. Then I suddenly understood: it's the wagering! All of the betting on people's favorite starlets is what's got everybody in a tizzy. You can't go to a pizza lunch buffet without bumping into a porn bookie as these awards near. It's just part of the culture now. As for who's eligible, I don't know or care about the rules, and I'm pretty sure the people in charge of deciding these awards don't either. But what makes sense is that in the year's time before award night someone got your attention consistently. So even if Roxxx isn't really a newbie, just go ahead and jam the trophy into her soft warm....... hands...... and call it a night.

chrissakes... obviously the cut off dates are somewhere.
In case you can't read, my "argument" happens to be the way it really is and how things actually work, regardless of how YOU think they should. I didn't have to twist, distort or creatively interpret a single thing to fit my personal needs. Though, if what you say were true of me, I'd certainly 'fess up to it. But I think more than enough people in-the-know in this thread have proven your assertions wrong. I don't know why you don't just give up and admit defeat. no one has proven anything wrong. are you just mentally challenged? no one on this thread has said anything about there not existing a more detailed explanation of the nomination requirements other than what's posted on the AVN Awards website. maybe Tricia or someone can verify this for us all..... then we can put this and you to rest.

When I typed in submissions for Best New Starlet, the eligibility requirement said what KillBill quoted. I don't know of anything more detailed than that being written down - at least not outside of AVN. Since AVN has more than a few times nominated someone for Best New Starlet who had been in the business for more than the 12 months, I think it's safe to say that could happen again. As far as whether or not they have a hard and fast "absolute" cutoff... who knows. I do remember one year a girl had been in the business for a couple of months the previous year, but then left and then came back and was nominated.

hell, i'm almost tempted to just email AVN myself and get the anwswer to a question that seems to be alluding everyone. it seems for their award show to have any credibility, they'd have some cut off point somewhere in regards to dates a starlet is no longer considered "new". and for those on the thread that seem to think i am sooooo wrong... keep in mind, AVN is not infallible. they have been known to screw things up now and again. if they absolutely DO NOT have defined dates for the eligibility for Best New Starlet noms... then they've opened themselves up to alot of confusion and controversy. which would make them wrong. however, i'd like to think the folks over at AVN are much wiser than that. common sense would be to make things more clear cut. i don't think i've seen this type of controversy with the Oscars. but hell, i guess this is just the porn biz. maybe we shoudn't expect things to be as legit. Um...that's ELUDING, and you'll likely not get any response at all or the SAME EXACT ONE we've been giving you over and over in this thread. That's your opinion. And there may be a ton of folks out there who share it with you. But at the same time I don't think there are too many people inside the industry or outside of it who lose too much sleep over how much "credibility" the AVN Awards have. It was just that for so long it was the ONLY show in town so it meant a lot and of course, still does when compared with other newer adult awards shows. You are wrong. And I don't think there's a person here yet who has said AVN was infallible. They DO NOT have defined dates for Best New Starlet noms but they do have a criteria that apparently isn't good enough for YOU. I don't know how not meeting YOUR standards makes THEM wrong but hey, whatever you say.Actually, there is no controversy and no, I think everyone here realizes this isn't the Oscars yet you seem to be the only one who wants to hold AVN to a similar standard. The only poster continuously bitching here (despite getting the word directly from an industry PR person, AVN's editor by way of that same PR person and a past voter) is you. Giving up was a good idea. [Link]

yea, what was i thinking? stupid of me to hold the lowly porn industry to the same standards as mainstream Hollywood.
---------------- See I missed the boat on this one and sorry for dredging up an old post.. yes I agree about Gianna, I think shes peaked and next year may well be her last year. (and she has been hard done by re awards) Her lack of A is hurting her chances and shes started to get very 'samey' this last 6 months.. (infact her output has notably slowed). Needs to find a new string to her bow or her popularity is going to start to drop methinks.. wilder S&M as she hinted at in her interview re G for Gianna 2?

There is no "Best New" something at the Oscars. And there HAS been controversy a few times at the Oscars over whether something was a foreign film, or other technicalities. At other mainstream Hollywood shows, I've seen people win Breakthrough Awards that had been in the business for years. Believe me, I've seen lots of debate on discussion boards about how this person or that person had a breakthrough role in whatever movie WELL before the one they were being considered for. So I'd say that's pretty similar to the discussion we've been having here.
^This is a "discussion"? Could've fooled me. I'd call it more of a "verbal jerk-off session". In my opinion, the AVN Awards are maybe 1 or 2 notches above the MTV Movie Awards, in regards to legitimacy. They're still fun, and I don't discredit any of the past winners for their excitement in winning the award.
JellO! So I haven't posted on ADT in along time but I occasionally pop in to check out topics. If I'm mentioned in a thread it's usually about "pussy lips" LOL!! well that's fine with me. You enjoy them and I'll have the complex about them ;) Anyways, this is a fun topic so I thought I'd throw in my two cents for my 2009 AVN hopefuls! Performer of the year: Annette Schwartz Belladonna Bobbi Starr Male performer of the year: Steve Holmes Mick Blue James Deen Best new starlet surprise first pick! April Flores of www.fattyd.com Oh' yeah she's doing B/G now! Mandy Morbid Stoya Best all sex or Gonzo? movie of the year: Annette Schwartz is Slutwoman 2 Slutwoman is an amazing piece of raw human sexuality. I'm stoked that I got to be a part of something so special. Like I told the people on my blog...SEE THIS MOVIE...You'll thank me! :) Well there it be. xOxkK
I've been trying sooooo hard for like twelve hours now not to make a cheesy joke about the sign Kimberly Kane is holding in the pic a few posts back. I can't take it any longer - the "Dirty Uncle Bob" inside me just has to get this out: Kimberly, I have the perfect "solution" to fill your bottomless pit, baby! There. I said it. You can all call me weak now.
^I know. When you let that shit simmer, the lines get weaker and weaker by the hour. I swear the stuff I was coming up with in my sleep last night was fuckin' gold... (yeah right)
I posted this in Sasha Grey's thread but it sort of belongs here. ...I've always enjoyed Kimberly Kane as a performer when she does more "normal" b/g scenes starting with the very first ones (Fresh New Faces 4, Stuffin' Young Muffins) I saw from her. If you've ever read me say anything negative about her (and I'll admit, I have) it's because she doesn't do that as often as I like which, as a typically selfish fan (I called her one of the Hottest Newcummers of '04 and that her early scenes reminded me of a young Jill Kelly, one of my favorite pornstars EVER), frustrates me. But she was involved in what might have been the best scene of the year in Mason's Annette Schwarz is Slutwoman 2 from Elegant Angel. [Link]
Thanksies to anyone that thinks I should be nom'ed for an AVN. I'm MEGA flattered and I've got a hole bag full of wishful thinking. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I know I have my fingers and toesies crossed. ;)

The last several years it's been the Tuesday or Wednesday of Thanksgiving week. I only know this off-hand because I've spent a few hours of my Thanksgiving vacation compiling the Evil Angel nominations list as soon as I see that they're posted.

I can't think of anyone else who has made a stronger case for Performer of the Year, then Bobbi Starr. She was just amazing the whole year, and she better be one of the strongest contenders, and hopefully win it. Jenna Haze comes a very close second, though in my opinion. I don't think there is a best anal performer category this year, because it would be very hard to decide between Bobbi and Dana DeArmond....whose powerful, and hot anal scenes can not be forgotten. Knowing AVN though, they'll probably get some of them so wrong, or make some huge blunders that I'd be forced to kick myself in the balls. Edited by - ExtremeGonzoFan on 11/17/2008 1:29:58 AM
That's one good reason for the film category to be gone. Some really shitty porn won awards simply because there was a microscopic amount of competition.
I Guess that Bobbi Starr deserves being the performer of the year althought Sasha Grey deserves repeating again, She is the best adult perfomer in the porn industry ever :)
Ooh, please don't kick yourself in the balls. That's a very important part of your body. Like I've said in the past I would be honored to be nominated in any category for the AVN awards, but this is not what I base my drive, desire and love for my job on. If I'm nominated or even win an award at the AVN awards this year that would be amazing!! However, if not I will still continue to devote myself to my work in 2009 and try and improve my performance for sake of those out in the world who love to watch me fuck and suck on camera.
Jenna Haze is super hot definitely- contender for performer of the year her scenes in secretary's day 2 and sporty girls are awesome gotta love the HD filming. @sugar liquor and gasoline - I highly recommend Interactive sex with Sasha Grey & Secretarys day 2.
