Hey, I was/am confused. Don't expect any sensible answer from me... erm... concerning this topic, I mean.

I don't have too many complaints on that list, it certainly isn't the load of crap that it seems to be most years. Not sure about Katsumi being the best foreign performer though, but eh you win some you lose some.
Well at least this time some of the awards are given to people who are worthy, Cytherea, Lauren Phoenix, Manuel and Steve. I don't agree with Katsumi choice though. You have girls like Katia Kassin, Jane Darling, Bobbie Eden, Sandra Ramain ,Sharka Blue, Stacy Silver, and many more who have done great scenes who would be deserving of the award for best foreign female perfomer, how did Katsumi beat them to it?
Cytherea was really nervous and in tears when she came up to accept her award; it was like Sissy Spacek marching up to the podium to accept Prom Queen in Carrie , something very eerie about it to me for some reason. I can understand being emotional but man...she was REALLY emotional, shaking and crying and all. Maybe it was the shock of beating out favorite, Teagan. Katsumi seemed equally as emotional when accepting her award for Best Anal Scene with Lexington Steele in Lex Steele XXX 3.
Tommy Gunn's Best Male Newcomer award was announced on the big screen and he was only one table behind me. You should've seen his face. Total shock and amazement on his part. He was genuinely surprised and happy to have won.
As far as Manuel Ferrara and Steve "Poppa" Holmes...couldn't have happened to two nicer guys, I don't care what country they're from. Both were deserving winners.
Katja Kassin was truly robbed of the female performer of the year award; Jada Fire and Justin Slayer weren't even nominated for a single award; and can someone please tell me how Lex can win best anal scene with Katsumi, yet not receive at least a male performer of the year nomination?
Is there some sort of backlash against Teagan ? Because as cute as Cytherea is it'd be hard to argue that she's generated as much buzz this year as Teagan P . As to Manuel Ferrera being considered the best in the world but not better than Steve Holmes : does that make Steve the best ? Or is it Manu ? Or did they just want to give awards to two guys instead of one ? And Katsumi rocks - glad to see her getting her due .

Cytherea deserved her win 100%. The main reason Teagen was favored was the fact that Cy was up for two awards, Best New Starlet and Female Performer of the Year. I am almost certain she was the only performer on nominated in both catagories.
Congratulations to Cy and the rest of the winners.
Unfortunately, we didn't win for our catagory. Maybe next year!!! :)
+1 for me on that; seems a bit shakey to me as well. everytime I turned around I was buying a DVD which had Katja performing some destructive and mind numbing anal scene, but no nomination. weird.

Anyway, I'm very happy for myself and the other winners. The only winner which was clear from the beginning was Manuel. In his category only Michael Stefano comes close to him and he did win last year.

I am TOTALLY confused about these winners. It makes me think back to reading something about AVN getting more female voters involved. If I am remembering that correctly it may explain these STRANGE winners. Manual Ferrara, Steve Holmes, & Vicki Richter I have no major issue with. BUT Cytheria over Teagan? BULLSHIT!!!! I'm beginning to wonder why there is such a mistreatment of Teagan by the Porn Press. I'm in NO way saying bad things about Cytheria. She seems to be a really sweet girl, but take away the squirting and all you have is any other starlet. Lauren Phoenix just is an UNBELIEVABLE choice for Performer of the year. I really hoped it would be somebody more deserving. I've never seen her appeal and I don't see her holding that title well. I guess there could have been a worse choice, but that would only be giving it to somebody for simply doing unsafe crazy circus act stuff. As for Katsumi and Tommy Gunn I don't remember who else was nominated, but there had to be better choices. This brings me back to my original thought. More female voters is not a good thing. It appears they voted for Big Muscles & Big Dicks for the males then voted for Little Breasts & Little Sex Appeal for the females.

And in my book, Cytherea out performed Teagen in every way. Yes Teagen is cuter, but Cy put more passion and enthusiasm into her scenes. Well at least from this reviews stand point.
Oh and as for the "little breasts" comment, didn't Teagen have the same size (cup wise and PRE fake boobs) as Cytherea does?

It pains me to be thinking about and commenting on something as silly as porno awards, but, I'm bored, so here goes: it would have made a lot more sense to give the "new starlet" award to Teagan. Wasn't it exactly one year ago that everybody was hearing about her for the first time? She went from signing at last year's Vegas show as an unknown, with no movies yet released, to being on the covers of a bunch of gonzo videos, to getting a contract and having unnecessary plastic surgery, all within a year. Cytherea, it seems to me, has been around longer, and while she has been successful, hasn't had quite as impressive a career arc.
Hmmm, I hope the Teagan brute squad on this forum doesn't jump all over me here, but I think Cytherea is a much better performer . Teagan may be the Britney Spears of the porn world, but other than that her scenes leave me limp.
I was so excited when Katsumi won Best Anal Scene & I think Lauren Pheonix deserved the award greatly.

"Cytheria is a hotter performer" SO she makes more obnoxious fake noises than Teagan. That award should go to the new female that made the biggest impact. Cytheria rode a niche(1 started and done better by others) to get to where she is. Teagan blasted out a bunch of hot ass Hardcore stuff then was offered a contract. Contracts are usually offered to females that have been around a little while. I'm glad to see Teagan posted in this thread and realizes that people are calling out that bullshit.

AC, sure blame women voters because your personal choices were not awarded. So women who watch porn, probably a lot more porn than you watch, should not be allowed to vote in the AVN awards because they don't like what AC Cream likes. Whatever.
Impact? I'm not knocking Teagan here, she's a very good looking girl. But exactly what impact has she had?
I haven't seen any of Teagan's movies so I can't comment on her performance, but doing a bunch of run-of-the-mill gonzo movies doesn't necessarily chisel your name into the minds of the masses.
I'd expect that Cytherea, with her 'niche' in general and the Squirtwoman titles in particular, has made herself known to more people than Teagan. She wasn't first, but she did put squirting 'on the map' so to speak.
Also not that many of Teagan's contract titles have been released yet.
Going strictly by your own definition of impact being the most important, I'd have to say Cytherea wins it. Which performer you or I prefer is not important here.
To me, Cytherea is much more than just about squirting... but perhaps I'm the only one who feels that way. It's somewhat unfortunate that her name has become synonymous with the act, when in truth she has so much more to offer than just that.
I fear that Tiana Lynn might be going down a similar path. She is so special in so many ways, but squirting alone is also fast becoming her primary marketing point.
It's yet another example of how under-utilized the incredible performers in this industry are.
Both girls are fine , but not entirely my cup of tea . Based on boxcovers and online hype it seems pretty likely to me that Teagan is the more valuable girl . And far more widely known . Though if you're gonna use that criterea a contract girl would be the obvious choice . If you were trying to sell a movie you'd put what you considered your prize asset on the cover , right ? And the girl you thought would appeal to most punters . Teagan's been nearly ubiquitous this year on gonzo covers .
Put another way . If I had a movie I was trying to sell this year then Teagan would've been the first new girl name on the team sheet . Not personal preferance , just the way things are . As to performance ... I'm not foolish enough to dip my toe in that water ...
Shouldn't be allowed to drive either .

Do you really mean that? The whole tone of your post seems calculated to spark some ruckus. But as much porn as you watch, you can't possibly dislike BOTH Manuel and Steve, can you? If anything, those choices reflect voters who like good, raw, flipped-on sex. And reflects also the influence the emergence of top European actors have had on the industry. If your theory was correct and the cliches held true, the winners would have been guys with more of a feature reputation.
Lauren, she's the best of both worlds. My personal choice? She's not Lauren, but Lauren was the single strongest girl with broad appeal who made a name in gonzo. If it had been Savanah Samson or Jesse Jane or someone like that, I'd complain or just say business as usual, but Lauren totally earned it. And I love small tits -- and Cytherea has had sensational scenes. Oh well -- glad we got to say hello, anyway.
If anyone has doubts about why Cytherea won, just check out her scene in Third Degrees' What Gets You Off. She is a great performer, and I'm not just talking about her squirting ability. I think Teagan is a very cute girl with one juicy ass, but at the performance level, she is not as good as Cytherea, yet.
Cytherea is in a league of her own. I did a scene with her in My upcoming film Burn... and she blew my friggin doors off. She was on par with Belladonna... Such passion! She deserved her award, no doubt...

I am in no way interested in the pissing contest between the Cytherea and the Teagan fans, but I have to wonder about something here. Kperv, you have stated yourself that you haven't seen any of the gonzos made by Teagan, yet you describe them as "run-of-the-mill". Am I correct to conclude that you believe that any gonzo is "run-of-the-mil"? And that, consequentially, features or contract work are not?

But with the exception of "Weapons of Ass Destruction #3", none of the descriptions of movies featuring Teagan posted here on ADT, have made me expect them to stand much out from the crowd. It wasn't a comment on her specific performance being run-of-the-mill, just that each movie as a whole was pretty quickly forgotten when the next volume in the series was released.Not all. But their sheer number almost guarantees that a lot of them will be.I'm definitely not saying that. Without doing a detailed count, it's my expectation that the percentage of unremarkable features is in the same ball park as that of gonzo titles. Tons of features are mindnumbingly dull. Both where the sex and the non-sex parts are concerned.
Gonzos often being series may actually make it harder for them to stand out. Making it even more remarkable when they do. Judging by how many ADT'ers remember it fondly, WOAD3 is apparently one such title. Ass Worship 1&2 are others.
The idea I was desperately trying to get across (I wish I had the excuse of posting while intoxicated) was that it might be less likely for one specific volume out of a long running series to be remembered. A title like "Space Nuts" ought to be easier to remember that "Bugger me gently #15" out of a series of 25. At least if you've also seen most of the others. Quick, what volume of "North Pole" featured Teagan?
