Is porn going to take a major hit with the country in such a mess? DVDs cost plenty. Internet sites cost plenty. Magazines are oout rageously over priced. Is the economy going to screw our pleasure. Thoughts, opinions, ideas, ways to get discounts or is it like everything else, cutting back.

DVD sales may take a hit but I see nothing slowing down the porn industry in the USA. If there is a demand to see something, then someone is going to supply it. There is too much money to be made. The industry is always changing and technology dictates where it will go and how it will adapt. When VHS ruled the market in the 80s and 90s, you had video stores selling and renting titles. Then, when everything went to disc, there was an explosion of adult content circulating through the mail and the video stores died off for the most part. Now with the high speed internet growing each year, I expect DVDs to eventually get phased out as people stream everything to their televisions and computers.
I still don't know why anyone purchases DVDs these days when you have other options, unless you have money to waste.

^^^ for one, watching porn on the family computer might not be convenient, nor partners knowing you are downloading porn content
dvds can be watched on any dvd player and hidden away from prying wifes eyes
also for me i resell them on afterwards at work, so makes much more sense than joining a website

I hear you, DVDs do have advantages but also pose a lot of headaches. I've rented thousands of titles through the mail since 2005, joining almost all the adult rental companies. I've had numerous DVDs arrived cracked or had glitches where they would not play. I've had numerous titles end up lost/stolen in the mail.
With the ability to stream video now to your televisions, I see the DVD going the way of the dinosaur.
I'm like you, I find websites a waste of money and they do not have enough variety. They are good for the niche viewer who can't find rental sites that offer specific adult content.

online is convenient for most people, i can see its benefit for sure
but i generally make my money back by buying dvds that have the content im looking for, watch it once then sell it to mates or work mates ( most guys i know have never gone into an adult store or bought through the mail)
so its like getting the dvds for free

The porn industry took a hit by bad economy years ago. Platinum and RLD are gone. 3rd degree and Zero tolerance are practically softcore. New sensation and Digital sin now release mostly content previously released from the internet by other companies. Jules Jordan cut down a lot of anal. The only company going strong is Evil Angel. New releases these days are mostly crap. I remember use to seeing over a hundred pre-releases on adult video sites and now it seems like less than half that. Just my opinion.

There are plenty of companies still around doing ok like Evil Angel and Elegant Angel.
The ones who took the biggest hit were the companies cranking out high volumes of
mediocre product (e.g. Vivid). The result is less product but higher quality product in general.
Before the recession there was way too much product being produced. Yes some of your favorites
are probably gone but lot of posers got weeded out.
DVD vs downloads? Yes eventually DVDs will become obsolete but for now they are still popular
with the mainstream. Streaming will not and has not worked for porn. The porn guys were the first
to try streaming and it eventually morphed into downloading. The difference is subtle but important.
Streaming is what Netflix is pushing now -- you don't get a physical copy or file to keep. With
downloading you get a copy to keep. Lot of guys are ripping DVDs to video files anyway. With download
sites you reduce your cost and recoup some profits which is best you can do in the face of piracy.
Please spare me the anti-piracy speeches .. that ship has sailed. You cannot stop piracy you just
have to offset the loss in other ways. For example, notice everybody has their own tube sites now like Brazzers
(e.g. WCP has a tube site). Better to eat your own lunch than to let somebody else eat it.
Mostly geeks and techies are using downloads. Lot of consumers still rent DVDs for porn.
Downloads ain't the same as streaming like Netflix. Streaming is easier for consumer. With
downloads you have to manage files and players etc. I think DVDs have another 5-8 years of life
in porn industry before its gone. But you can see IPTV will eventually take over.

100% spot on. It is a shame but true. I still check new releases almost daily and seldom find much of interest. It is not that adult content is not being produced, it is just garbage porn. As I said recently in a post, in all my years of viewing adult content going back to 1981, I have to say year 2011 was the worst for the adult industry in quality content.
I can't pinpoint the reason why this is going on, it may be a combination of a lot of things, likely a good topic to address in a separate thread.

It's already been in a steep decline with massively falling profits for the past several years so I'm not sure how one could say this. Also, 2011 the worst year in porn? I'd have to disagree, I remember porn being so bad in the early 90s I stopped watching it for years.

Perhaps in the future all of our media (music, radio, tv , film and porn) will come through a data cable. Presently though the technology is just not there. Take blu-rays they produce beautiful quality pictures, now downloading or streaming a 50gig file is just not convenient. I like quality and want all of my media in the best quality available. Im sure the recession will have a slight effect on sales of dvds but like previously mentioned demand will always be met and we all now there is always demand for porn.

I believe the economy will hit the porn studios so some smaller studios will go and as a whole be more streamlined. The bigger threat is 2/3 years from now when the DVD markets will die. The problem is the demand is there for porn especially online but not been delivered by the studios. for e.g porn studios websites don't have new releases for stream/download. A lot of the customers would pay more than the usual $19.99 monthly if content is current and also stay loyal instead of drifting site to site with new subscriptions. At the moment VOD is only way for new releases but are way overpriced only use of vod for most is to sample films before buying the dvd.

Question (perhaps slightly OT, for which I apologize in advance):
What will be the next generation of porn? First, it was VHS; then DVD; then internet. Now what: Holographic portrayals?
I am confident the industry has given great thought to this. I am simply curious as to what is the prevailing thinking.

There is a demand for porn or i would not be posting. I needed to find out what is going on and have found out, though, in light of ecomomic news( not the media news) i have heared bad things. Gas could hit $5.00 this summer and with everything else, porn will not die just a lesser amount.

Porn is has already taken a big hit in the DVD market. Every couple of months when I go to the porn shops I rent from the new release section is noticably smaller and they seem to be trying to get rid of the older stuff harder. The upside is new releases have gone down in price in stores and online over the past couple of years. The bad news is I ended up buyng stuff I would've normally rented because there are fewer new releases and titles don't end up getting to the stores...and sometimes the stuff I bought didn't turn out to be as good as I hoped. I actually like that more companies are doing compilations because there's tons of older stuff/girls from the past I like at cheap prices.
Basically, I think too many of the pornshops were overcharing for porn and the ones who refuse to drop prices are out of business or not selling many DVDs. I think online and streaming porn will sell better when more people are able to or start to stream it to their tvs and own the content.
I don't agree that porn content is worst than ever or even bad. I think there's still plenty of good stuff. But this is the internet and people always claim the old stuff was better...that's a given.
This year I'll buy fewer DVDs because I finally joined the world of streaming content now that I can watch it on my tv. For the price of a DVD I have tons of content to choose from. I still buy stuff new from JULES JORDAN, WCP and EVIL ANGEL from time to time but that's about it.

Actually you don't. You have 44 anal/dp scenes and unless I'm mistaken then they are all from past Jules Jordan dvd's. Which of your fans is going to pay 30$ for a one month membership when he probably has a few of these scenes on his dvd's?

I don't know where you have been in the last couple of years but the porn industry is dying a slow death. DVD sales have already taken a hit and they keep taking one every day. I agree that there's a demand for all kinds of porn but you forgot to deduct all the money companies are loosing from pirating and tube sites. There are way too many people that don't mind watching crappy tube porn or downloading the latest dvd on a torrent site. All those articles and news report that claim that porn is a multi-billion dollar industry are a load of crap. If there was so much money in making porn then we wouldn't be where we are now with only a handfull of studios still producing porn. You have Evil Angel, Elegant Angel, Jules Jordan, Devils' Films, Girlfriends Films, Digital playground and a couple of other that release original content on a regular basis but that's about it. Where are Red Light District, Platinum X, Diabolic, Anabolic, DVSX, Combat Zone and the list goes on? These are studios that used to have tons of release every month and that menat jobs for a lot of people. There aren't any other studios that have sprung up to take their place and none of the other active studios film more often.

i dont like 99% of most new dvd titles/stars
there are some i do but seem to gravitate towards the stars and titles that are from the period when i started watching porn which is around 96-2002 era
i even like going to going to late 80s early 90s before i was into porn over newer stuff
i just seem to find those women more attractive, the guys less annoying. the downside is a lot of the scenes are vanilla but most new stars/titles around new seem the same thing repackaged over and over

The escort is the new DVD. Why watch movies when you can "watch movies"? Of course the kids aren't old enough to rent escorts but that's where tube sites, worldstarhiphop.com, and niche/network sites come into play

^^^^ that works if you live in LA
however most porn fans dont, or, want to pay for sex so escorting taking over from porn isnt a reality for the majority
if i was rich and could blow a few grand a week on fucking a porn star then yes i would, maybe.. but i dont live in la, im not rich & also not comfortable atm paying for sex so porn it is

no, im in australia
but even if i was in the states, unless you are in LA you are not going to get regular sex with a porn star.
so what do you between seeing a porn star escort? watch porn
i mean, i watch porn a couple times a week ( depending on how often im getting laid) so for it to replace porn i would have to see an escort a few times a week which is around $5000 or more
who can afford that?
so saying escorting will take over from porn is wrong. there are postitutes everywhere, if people wanted that instead of porn, porn would never have taken off. id say, its the minority of porn viewers who will pay to see a porn star escort rather than the majority

I disagree, you are associating a drop in DVD sales with an industry on the way out. Not going to happen. Porn is spreading around the world at a record pace. It is everywhere, in homes like never before. Modeling agencies are expanding and there is no shortage of girls signing up. Many of the studios that have closed shop is a reflection on the garbage they crank out where the quality is missing. And justifiably so, they are forced to cut back on production.
What is dying a slow death is the DVD/CD.

Sierra (old skool big titty black chick) lives in DC now. Mone Devine lives in NYC, along with Sydnee Capri, Sinnamon Love, and Tory Lane. Marie Luv lives in Miami along with Mya G and Sara Jay. Pinky used to be in PG County Maryland a lot (where I'm from). Cherokee D'Ass and Beauty Dior used to constantly be in Baltimore. DC/PG have been pretty much second homes to Melrose Foxx and Ms Cleo. Hell, DC is a regular spot for Lacey Duvalle.
And so on and so on. Obviously they travel a lot and a lot of chicks do model in LA but Cali isn't where all Pornstars reside. That's where most of the work happens. California's porn industry is going thru something what New York went thru with Rap music. Most of it always had to go thru MY but a lot of people are making their money elsewhere. It just has to be run by tha powers that be in Cali. And if u want to get noticed you have to work out there, but other than that for a lot of people u have to travel outside of LA.
For example, Cubana Lust has released a porno but she models for WorldStarHipHop and packs houses outside of New York (where she's based). I doubt she's gettin a lot of money from Q and Tasha, so she is the Brand Gurl from WorldStar and she gets a lot of money doing shows and she has a sizable presence in the Urban Audience (I wouldn't doubt if she's a household name by now). And that's what people want, they WANT the girl for theirselves, not to just watch her suck off and fuck huge dicks all day.

I agree 100%. Sometimes when I hear guys complain about how bad the porn is today I wonder what are they
comparing it to? Most of the stuff shot during the 90s sucked with a few guys producing good stuff like
Stagliano, John Leslie, etc. But even the gonzo stuff today is probably better. The one valid complaint is
that nobody is shooting top notch high quality stuff like Private used to produce. Nobody is spending that
kind of money anymore to shoot in lavish locations like Woodman used to do.

so there is a dozen-maybe 2 dozen porn escorts scattered around the uS
and that means that will take over from porn? if there is no porn, how will they be any different from normal escorts as if there is no porn no one will know who they are..then they are just another prostitute
also the average Joe does not want to see escorts whether they do porn or not, so i dont see at all your point of escorts taking over from porn.
plus, seeing an escort, especially a high end porn star escort, would have to planned in advance quite a lot..what do you do in the meantime? just not masturbate at all? porn you can turn on the net or your dvd anytime or feel me i have a shitload on my ipod so i can watch it anywhere anyplace anytime
i can see people seeing escorts more and more..if they are the type that would pay for sex anyway, most wont and it will never ever take over from porn
watching porn is not cheating for say a married family man, seeing an escort is....big difference

Yeah, porn is spreading around the world because more people are watching it for free on the internet. Porn is getting bigger but the people making new content are having a harder time makng money. I don't think it has anything to do with quality. There's always been some good stuff and lots of bad stuff made in porn but most people seem to only remember the good stuff from the past and mostly focus on the bad stuff from the present.

Escorts have always been around and available. Most consumers of porn don't want escorts, it's comparing apples and oranges. Reality vs. fantasy.

I think you're undermining it though. There's alot of money being made.
I wouldn't force anybody into doing anything but alot of them do it. A lot of females in porn (the fly by nighters) come from everywhere, there's a good chunk of them who strip and escort and advertise the streets. It's naive to think that there's no money in it. The more famous the female, the more they'll be willing to spend. That's 101
The Bilderberg Group is a family anyway. We look out for our own. If you make money then I make money and If I make money then you make money! It's as simple as that

escorting has been around a long time
why will it suddenly take over from porn?
i have watched a LOT of porn, have never seen an escort or hooker, dont particularly want to waste money on it
there will always be porn just a matter of which medium it takes

^Escorting has been around for a long time but I don't think you had as many new porn girls with a couple of movies under their belt moving to mostly escorting within a short amount of time as much as you do now. How many newbies have we seen do a couple of movies and some internet stuff who then appear on escort sites as a porn performer?

Yeah, I don't see how porn industry can/could've maintained growth and financial pace prior to the worst recession since 1930s.
Even with employment rate recovering, costs for necessary products and services are increasingly fast, while wages have stayed same or declined.
First thing to go during these times are non-essentials, especially entertainment.
The good news for porn producers, if they are smart to embrace it and push it, is the advent of streaming multimedia, esp. video. Netflix account for 30% of total downstream traffic now, which shows you how much people have taken to streaming media.
If porn producers use streaming media, they might be able to negate [some] of the production (manufacturing and licensing - BluRay) and distribution/S&H costs if they opt for streaming media. Unfortunately, from what I've seen, they have taken the route of the music/CD industry and resisted change and hold on to unsustainable business models.
