In all the purchases I've made, I've had almost no problems. Most problems are minor things like broken dvd hubs and such. Well, I recently ran into a problem disc. I had ordered it from a startup store figuring it sounded promising. The title was Young and Anal #4. Well, I hadn't opened it until this weekend-my track record has been almost perfect-and figured I'd review it. I had a problem in that it simply wouldn't play. Since it had a website on the case, I figured that I'd email the company and see what they might be willing to do. I was sure that I had bought it from DivaDee until mere moments ago, and told them that the company was no longer in business, etc etc. I sent a followup telling him that I got it elsewhere but he hasn't responded to that one. Here's the initial unedited response from them: From: "JM PRODUCTIONS" <JMPRODUCTION@PRODIGY.NET> ------------------------------------------------------------ you need to buy your movies from a reputable source, so when you need to Jeff steward @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Now had the company said something a little more polite-like "we're sorry that you had a problem but we can't help you because it's been so long since you ordered it" or "you should have checked it since we have such crappy dvd's" or a number of other things, I'd say fine and be done with it. I didn't pay that much for it to worry about it. My problem is that he implied that buying it anywhere but directly from him invited trouble. I wonder what the affiliates here think of his comments. Considering how many etailers have gone under or are bleeding red ink like crazy, I wonder how he determines who is "reputable" and who is not. Just curious... [Link] |

I wouldn't want anyone accusing me of paying them back for mistreating me as a consumer. However, I may change my mind... I'm not sure if I was more amazed at the suggestion that anyone would bootleg their crap when so much better stuff is out there (maybe paranoia is a standard condition at their company), or that he was such a jerk to my sugar sweet email. Someone had brought up a similar issue in RAME they had with a JM disc and the reply was the same "Buy it from a reputable source." -- I think the guy then bought another copy from a "reputable source" (he got his copy off eBay, if memory serves) -- and still had the same problem. I don't recall if the rep (same guy -- Jeff Steward) replied to that issue. Pretty great way to treat the consumer... which is why forums like this are so invaluable. [Link] |

I wouldn't have thought badly of their company. Instead of the JM way of "too bad you got gypped sucker, better luck next time". The thing that JM doesn't realize is that would be the last dollar I would give to their company, like how I won't spend any money on Vivid b/c I've been ripped off by their vivisected disks similar to the posting Luke Ford where all of these porn companies seem to be in a rush to double and triple charge customers with their website subscriptions and posting bogus email addresses for ease of cancelling which of course makes it impossible to shut down your subscription (I believe Evil Angel was mentioned as an offender in this way) I guess the corporate culture of porn to treat it's customers as mooks to be fleeced is just too ingrained. And I would guess that most of the DVD Shacks were started buy regular joes outside of the industry who believe in integrity. As Drew and Steph have shown via ADT AVN continues to bitch and wail about how nobody in the mainstream respects porn as an artform or industry. It's not just because they're selling "smut" it's because of these types of scummy business principles. [Link] |

I find the web fraud stuff to be infinitely more interesting reading on Luke's site than the porn these days... it's a nice change to read about webmasters' coke habits for awhile. :-) [Link] |
| Drew Black broken crankshaft 8011 Posts 9/99 | Posted - Nov 30 2000 : 9:52AM When Divadee went AWOL and a few customers complained about getting screwed over, DVD Exotic contacted me and asked me to contact the forum members that Divadee ripped off. Exotic offered to fill their orders for free. Imagine sending out product for free to ensure that a customer didn't get screwed by another company. Exotic's reason for doing this was very simple. If a group of consumers gets burned by an online DVD adult store the bad vibe can be infectious and carry over to other retailers. People are less likely to spend their dollars for similar goods/services when they've been burned. The JM response is quite entertaining in comparison. [Link] |
