I agree with you Tristan! I love that Marie and Jada have both started getting roles in films that are not necessarily defined as being for "Black" women. I made a comment to friends that I was exceptionally proud of the fact that Jada and Ice (LaFoxx,) both won awards this year for scenes that were in FILMS and not in Videos. I think that says a lot about the ability of women of color being just as valuable in the marketplace as their non-ethnic counterparts.
I've mentioned this before.. Heff mentioned in an interview once that he is not a trendsetter. He waits for someone else to prove the trend and then he perfects it. That's the nature of this business. There are few trendsetters. There are few original ideas. I believe that, just like in Hollywood, the influx of Directors and Producers of ethnic decent has had a major influence on the mainstream industry starting to produce more ethnic product. Years ago, every ethnic title was pimps, hoes, south central hookers, etc.. With more people of color in control of the image being produced and sold, this allows everyone else to see these women as being able to be shot outside of stereotypical roles. I was thrilled when Mandingo came out with the lines, 'Pretty Black Girls' and 'Pretty Latin Girls.' It was like, "Wow! Someone gets it!"
Look at how long it took for Halle Berry and Denzel Washington to be recognized by the Academy.. Hopefully it won't take as long for the Adult Industry to follow suit.
Don't even get me started on Hall of Fame.. Johnny Keyes, the first Black Man to ever have sex with a White Woman on camera was just inducted a couple of years ago... This month marks my 14th year in the biz.. I'm just waiting for my induction.. but I won't be holding my breath.
I can understand why a performer would want to be a contract girl for one of the bigger companies because it would probably mean more money, fame and less work. However, for the consumer I don't really see the plus sides. In my mind if a girl becomes a contract girl for someone like DIGITAL PLAYGROUND or VIVID it simply means we'll probably be seeing watered down sex scenes and fewer scenes per year. Why would I want that?
Honestly, what are the advantages contract players for the typical porn consumer? There may have been one years ago when the big companies were the only ones putting out quality product but these days almost no company puts out really poor quality stuff on a technical level. For me personally I'd rather see someone like Jesse Jane in a movie from a small studio than the slo-mo, elevator music stuff she does for DP.
By the way Sin.....speaking of your 14 year career....I saw some of your earlier work(dark alleys).......and your butt was not that big before.... one day I looked up and BAM........your butt was full-grown.
In the past, did you make conscious decision to have a less voluptuous body because of how it would impact your livelihood?
as far as the rest......money talks...when directors of all colors make different kinds of films featuring Black women that sell, others will follow them.
the stereotypical stuff is just laziness....audience is tired of it because they've seen it so much.....
and for the record....when magazines/people talk about finding the "porn version of Halle Berry"..they are missing the entire point....
Before, I was smaller because I was a teenager.. I was a 19 year old girl with a 19 year old body. Now? I'm 33 years old.. And while my face is still youthful, I have a woman's body - because well frankly, I'm a woman! It definitely wasn't a conscious choice.I think the onset of directors like Diana DeVoe, Juan Cuba, Vanessa Blue, Lexington Steele, Alexander Devoe and the like... the industry is seeing that qulity ethnic product can and will sell and is worth the investment.
I was just thinking that perhaps a nice body like yours of today, might have been a liability back then.
The same way that a woman built like you were back then, might not be as in demand today since people have caught on and the big butt genre has taken off.
I think you have best of both worlds.....you are slender and can be cast in films that call for that...but you have enough of a body(and butt) that you would fit in perfectly in a film that caters to big butt fans.

I get what you're saying.. but I sort of disagree. When I came into the biz, I most of the Black woman fit into one of three categories: ambigous ethnic identity, 90's feature dancer body, or extremely voluptous. Janet Jacme had a great ass... I was the first Black "girl next door." I had no tits, nice hips and ass, and a barely legal look. I always had an ass... its just gotten bigger as I've gotten older. Not that its insane now. It always photographs much, much bigger than it truly is. At AVN this year guys were like, "wow, your ass doesn't look that big in person." Because its still proportionate. Honestly, I love my body.. I want bigger boobs, and a trimmer, more toned body - but I love the way my frame has filled out as an adult. I've spent my entire adult life in front of the camera - so I think what you're seeing is a gradual progression that happened so gradually that you didn't really notice it. :-)
I have to disagree with you on one point however.. there are still lots of Black Women without big asses that are having illustrious careers... Marie Luv immediately comes to mind. She is small and petite - with just the right amount of ass, tits and a gorgeous face.
Oh ...yeah...all entertainers......look somewhat different in real life...as opposed to how they photograph.

There were actually women bigger than Janet Jacme back then.. Lady A & Lady Antoinette in particular come to mind. Crown Princess and Lana Sands weren't very voluptous - but had smallish breasts with curvy hips and butts. The waist to hip ratio definitely has a lot to do with a woman's ass looking bigger than it is.
Last year, when I was battling ovarian cancer, I gained about 20 pounds from my body trying to accommodate the tumor in my mid-section. One result is my lower body became bigger. Thank goodness I lost half of that weight already. I'm not comfortable being larger... my body wasn't made for that. I'm short - 5' 2 3/4" - so the extra weight gain looks odd to me. I have 6 sisters and we all look exactly alike.. just different ages. I'm the smallest of all of us. I practice yoga daily to make sure that I maintain a physique that I'm happy with. I can't wait to drop these last few pounds though.. so I can be back to my personal optimal weight.
I'm glad that there are fans that enjoy the curvier version of me.. But I hope that you guys will love the way that I look and the energy that I exude regardless of the impending weight loss.
