No idea why, but when I try to come to this site via my regular Chrome browser or Firefox, I'm met with a "Cloudflare has blocked you" screen.

Is this on Cloudflare's end or can I be whitelisted on the forum's end?

I haven't changed anything in my router or done anything else knowingly to warrant this, so idk why this is happening. Currently accessing the site through a VPN.

You should see a code on the block notice. We would need that and your IP to look into it.

If you're on Comcast we've been getting hammered by bots on Comcast residential proxy IP addresses. I have systems that automatically block IP ranges temporarily but if the range gets blocked more than 10 times it becomes permanent.

^ I'm on Comcast. Yesterday, I got the same "blocked" message that @dubdub211 got. It's all good today, Saturday.

Yeah as HumptyRumpty said, it seems to have fixed itself. I'm on Comcast as well.

For the moment I switched from blocking to managed challenges. I have a new bot blocking system in the works. They have really gotten out of control. Appears there are lots of people renting their home cable and fiber connections to anonymous proxy services. I need to get a little more surgical with the blocking logic.

To put things in perspective a handful of bots from Comcast can generate 6k page requests per minute with rotating IP addresses. They change IP addresses after 5 requests. If I block an IP address they show up almost immediately afterwards with a different IP. Thus far the only way to prevent this stuff has to been to block the whole ASN. This has the very unfortunate side effect of blocking legitimate traffic. But it's a tradeoff of sorts. Allow the bots and they sometimes take the whole site offline, block them and real users get blocked too.

In the last few weeks, I've been occasionally, temporarily blocked with the same Cloudflare message. Including last week.

I'm also on Comcast.

I appreciate your efforts to try to block the bots.

Though I get on nearly every day, I only check a few threads (which I subscribe to), and don't post a lot. So, I figured it wasn't traffic from me specifically.

Hopefully, I won't get permanently blocked due to other bad actors.

If I do, how do I contact someone to get unblocked? Or is that not necessary?

I should have the new bot guard system in place within the next week.

what is the point of bots doing this? is it just someone causing malicious mayhem because they dont like porn or some of the admins \ site owners personally? is it just random?

Some of it is random, some of it is deliberately trying to extract data from the site. To give you an idea, here's a deliberate one from last night. Just one Charter Communications IP address making 35k requests. Roughly 1500 requests every 5 mins.

Whoever is operating this bot network will often send a swarm of 5 to 10 scarpers at a time making requests like this. The peaks are around 6k requests/minute making it through the defenses to the servers that host the site.

And this is a more typical swarm pattern from yesterday evening around 7:30pm. This is a little over 10 mins of data. Almost 3k requests per minute making their way to the server spread out over a few IP addresses. These requests were mostly to price search pages. No real user makes 400+ page requests in a 10 minute period

Thanks for your effort. I used to be a web site admin. This kind of tedium is no fun.

Hello everyone, how are you all? I've also returned to this forum after a long time. Yes, I experienced the same issue once. If you're using a paid VPN, try resetting its settings. You might have accidentally enabled an option that prevents third-party websites from opening. After that, clear your browser's cookies and cache. You can also go to your browser settings, clear the cache and browsing history, and then try accessing the forum again. I went through these same steps myself, so I know about this issue from personal experience. Hopefully, this will help you fix it!
