You can pick up a decent quality laptop with a similar spec for less money, and the Mac Mini doesn't include a keyboard, mouse or screen. It's worse if you want something better than the basic model; Apple really seem to gouge their users on upgrades. For example, charging £450 for a Mac Pro 2Tb hard drive, £80 extra to upgrade the Mac Mini's 320Gb hard drive to 500Gb, or £123 extra to bump the Mac Mini's speed from 2.4GHz to 2.66GHz. The profit margins must be amazing compared with PC builders, no wonder they've overtaken Microsoft as the most valuable tech company. |

With the RAM it's easy enough to add it yourself and save some money, but with something like the CPU it's trickier, and the upgrade invalidates your warranty. That's definitely one of the things that puts me off buying Apple hardware, even though I like the OS. |
