Bush DVD sent me an e-mail stating an immediate (1-10-06) adjustment to their monthly rates; it isn't pretty.
2 at a time is $14.95 4 at a time is $23.95 6 at a time is $31.95 8 at a time is $39.95

It's sure not. I got the same mail and they clain it's based on postage. Postal rated went up 5%, but Bush raised their price 10%.
Srvice did improve in December, but it's back in the toliet again. My last shipment took a week that's almost 3 times the normal turnaround.
With this rate hike Sugar is looking better and better. I don't live down south, but I see Sugar opened a Dallas facilty, so now they are west coast, east coast and down south. All that without a rate hike.

Pimp, your attacks on Bush are completely unfair. Please feel free to report on their service, but insinuating that they are a dishonest business is totally uncalled for. They are a hardworking, honest company. I'm getting tired of the rudeness in these rental threads.
It should be noted that on a subsequent visit to the BushDVD website, the new listed prices are not accurately depicted in the emails they sent to customers. Here is the actual updated price listing according to the Bush website:
2 at a time: $14.95 4 at a time: $25.95 (Up from $22.95) 6 at a time: $33.95 (Up from $29.95) 8 at a time: $42.95 (Up from $37.95)
So the 4, 6 and 8 at a time plans each increased by three, four and five dollars respectively.
I've been a loyal member of BushDVD for over a year now and I would be lying if I said I was not very disappointed over the increased prices. From a PR standpoint, raising prices is never a popular move for obvious reasons. That being said, I can also see things from their perspective and I understand why they are doing it.
I would have to concur that BushDVD is indeed an honest and upstanding business, they have never steered me wrong or given me any major problems in the year of service that they have provided for me.
The fact remains, no one is going to like this price hike. I won't kick up a shitstorm over it, I'm sure there will be enough of that going on without my contributions in the negative, but it is a disappointing move no less.
CG_Gurl80 - The pricing in the e-mail you received is what you will be billed not the pricing listed on the website. We only raised the prices for current members by a dollar or two.
We just rec'd our price change notification. Also part of the email was:
"Since launching our service almost three years ago, we've added more than 12,000 titles to our selection bringing our total to more than 18,000 titles. We continue to add more than 400 new releases each month. In addition, we will be adding reviews, performer photos and many other features to the website. Improvements such as these, as well as postal rate changes have increased the cost of doing business."
I guess everyone must make their own decision. Bush has been a great value for us so no complaints here. We hope their web site improvements don't slow down the site much - it's nice a quick as it is.
The $1 increase won't hurt too bad considering the value and service so far. We'll stay with Bush until we have a better reason to switch.
As dissapointing as any price increase is, the prices appear to still be better than similar class services like Xrent.
Just a comment for Bush, it is a little odd in your standard pricing that is costs $8 more to go from 4 to 6 dvds and costs more ($9) to go from 6 to 8.
For me, the price increase will be a $5.00 bump per month (somehow, I've not been charged for the past increases). I'm currently at the point where I'm watching fewer titles, so I'll probably cancel. I'll go back to renting individual DVDs.
I think this was to be expected, I've been seeing the new postage on their mailers for a week or two. They have been the cheapest plan out there I think. Still, they seem to be in line with the others, SugarDVD is at $35 and $44 for 6 and 8 out at a time. And Xrent is at $50 for 8 out at a time. The only other major rental plan I could think of is Flicksmart which charges $35 and $43 for their 6 and 8 DVD plans.
Of course, all of those mail individual discs, versus the 2 disc mailer for Bush. Anyone know if the others have raised prices yet? I'd expect a slight push up. Or maybe they will just absorb the postal increase. Anyhow, I'm probably longest member of BushDVD here at ADT. Two and a half years and still going strong. Okay, maybe a little worn out.
Inflation guys and girls. Someones gotta pay for the bandwidth for all the new release every month that needs to be posted. I also noticed that DVD's that come with bonus disc are not cheap either.
I am going on 2 years in February and still a happy camper. Keep up the good work Jason!
Pocket if you so upset with Bush then why not cancel? no one is strong arming you to sub with them.
The statement that you only raised rates to existing memebers by "only a dollar or two.." is not correct. I have been a member since the inception of your company on the 4 disc plan. My monthly charge is/was $18.95. Per your email I received yesterday it is now $23.95. I have been entirely happy with your service and response to the few problems I have had with a couple bad discs. At times the shipping seemed a little slow but it has not become a problem in my view and I really like being your customer. I will probably remain with you even with this big increase for me of $5 per month. I guess the people who went to you in the beginning and stayed with you take the biggest price increase as a reward for that loyalty. Business I guess.

Steph,
I'm sorry you see it that way. I know Bush advertises with you and I also know that you are a far person, but I have reported the facts as I see them. I have had service issues on multiple levels and when the CEO was here he accused me of lying which was not true.
As stated, the service did improve once many people reported concerns with bush, but for the last few weeks I have seen a downward turn in service. The fact that service improved during the highest volume shipping shows me that the mail can get through.
Either way, you may not agree with what I have said about Bush, or the way I said it, but the exoerience I reporte is 100% accurate.

The stamp rate went up 2 cents. Roughly that's 5%. Bush meters there package with about twice the standars stamp rate, still 5%
But what doesn't make any sense is that someone that complains consistently, vocally and hatefully as you do it's amazing that you stick with them. I haven't figured that out. I also seem to remember reading that Bush offered to issue you a refund for your entire time you been a customer because of your incredible disdain for their company and personal dislike of their owner. (Did you take them up on that offer? It doesn't sound like it to me.)
While you may truly be attempting to be factual in your posts they simply come off as hateful and motivated by an agenda.
As most anybody who's involved with business management can tell you, postal increases are just one of the many increases seen. If only taxes and insurance would have only gone up by 5% over the last few years. I'm not happy to see a price increase (nobody ever is), but this seems like a pretty fair increase.

Drew,
I emailed both you and Steph on this. Feeel free to respond via email. I never say the fact that Bush offered me a refund on my length of service. At this point I would take them up on that offer.
Hateful is a strong word as well. I didn't start a single thread about Bush, when others made mention of their service, I only added mine to the list. I may have been the most vocal, but my experience were not consistent with what Bush was claiming.
As far as this thread goes, I completly agree with what Astro said, it's a fair increase and their orice is still below the competition.
Where I take offense is the fact that the mail said it was based on postal increases. That raises two flags for me. #1, the descrepencie in increase between the postal rate and Bush' increases. #2, the fact that their appears to be an issue (at least on my end) with postal turn around. A movie has never taken more than 3 days to reach Bush from my house, yet at least once a month a title takes 6-7 days to reach me from Bush. I sent you doccumentation of this as well.
Bush has the second best selection I have seen online and I already said who had the best. I also made mention that I left them because their shipping sucked. I also heard that they charge a 50 cent surchage once you report a title missing.
You guys stood up for Bush and that's great, but I have given a fair report. If you ask me, Good business is you asking me for the facts, asking me to hold my tongue until you can confirm, and it would have been Bush CEO, or a rep getting the fact from me direct, not calling me a liar, or questioning the fact that I am a customer.
I know porn doesn't run like the real world, but I am used to a certain level of service and a comapny that I agreed to not name negatively has not provided good service in my opinion.
I'd hapilly except a full refund.
FYI, when the service appeared to improve after people made this public. I was the first to agree.
Lying is something that I do not do, Sir. Opinions do vary, but I do have the facts to support my opinion.
No big deal in my book. Now if it becomes a regular thing I'd be upset but this is the first increase in my year and a half there and that is completely acceptable.
Actually the email said the increase was based on postal rate increases AND adding new features to the website. "In addition, we will be adding reviews, performer photos and many other features to the website. Improvements such as these, as well as postal rate changes have increased the cost of doing business."
I've been a member with Bush since November 2003. In that time I have had 5 dvds go missing (3 mailers). The dvds all turned up eventually either at their end or at my home. Once reported missing they always sent out the next 2 in my queue immediately. I have never been charged a 50 cent surcharge for reporting a title missing that I am aware of. It wouldn't really even make sense to charge 50 cents to a credit card. What it would cost a company for credit card processing fee would probably eat up most of that 50 cents.
We suggest a brief "time out" until some of you folks chill - hey this is supposed to be fun!
We posted (above) what our email said and it seems reasonable to us. BTW we have a 4 DVD plan - that's $1 increase per month or $12 per year.... that's about 1/2 the purchase price of a single DVD that we might watch once. Renting (as opposed to buying) works great for us and we suspect the same for many people. Bush gets our business until there's a significant problem.
Happy Viewing!

All the discusion about Bush was to share experiences. Some where good, some not so good. The fact that my service was not the same as other is only material for you to consider.
If you know of a service that has 100% customer satisfaction, please let me know. The fact that I have yet to start a thread on Bush and there level of service goes to show that I am not alone in my concern.
I hope they do much better in 2006. Improved business for them most likely means better selection and competition.
I gave up on online rentals until I saw the titles that Bush offered. They catalog was enough to get me back in the game. If I had the level of service and satisfaction that some of you did, I'd be right here telling you all about quick turns and solid service.
I've said more than enough on this subject. I'm glad that you are happy with your service, it's reassuring.
I don't think 100% customer satisfaction exists. It is not possible. Whatever your level of service there is always going to be some prick who isn't satisfied with it. There are people out there with unrealistic expectations, or people who just like to bitch and complain about things. With any sort of business like this you depend on the reliability of humans. Humans make mistakes. Shit happens. You try to minimize this, but some people can't tolerate anything less than perfection. And with online rental services you have to factor in the US postal service. Oh my god, what a bunch of dumbasses. These online rental companies are at their mercy. The service of the US mail is horrible. Recently I had a package I paid $65 dollars for plus $25 dollars for airmail from Hong Kong sent to me. I got a slip in my mailbox telling me my package was at the post office, just bring this slip to the post office and sign it to pick up your package. I get there and they can't find my package. I wait about half an hour while they look for it and they don't find it. They don't know where it is. Well eventually I did get the package, but it just goes to show you the ineptitude of the USPS.
Anyways there is no such thing as 100% customer satisfaction. Try some other online rental services. I don't think you would be any more satisfied with them. Online subscription services are much cheaper than renting per movie online or from you local vid store.

I left a great service for Bush. I left for Bush because Bush had a deeper catalog of IR. I had Zero issues with the level of service of the last service. They were adding IR titles daily, but new releases only.
I am more than gratefull that Bush has IR titles from the late 90's, but I'm not impressed how they have dealt with my service issues.
YOu are right, the world is full of pricks and some do have unrealistics expectations, but I only hold people to their word. If they advertise something they have to delivery.
That's the #1 reason you never here of Sea Monkey's anymore. Someone finally decided to sue them for false advertising.
Somebody will always be #1, and someone else will have to be #2 or #3. My #1 may not be your #1 and so on.
Drew believes that Bush offered me a refund at some point. I never saw it, but if they did I'd take my money and go back to Sugar. They have the best service of the 4 online sites I've tried. A couple people I know tried them and liked X Rent better, so it goes to show that everybody likes something different.
I don't know what genre you like, but most retailers don't carry a certain line or company.
Excalibur had the deepest selection, but the service was the worse of the 4, I have since heard from others that it has not improved.
I tried X Rent, the service was OK, I wasn't impressed, but I wasn't upset. Shipping was 3-4 days to my city and the selection moderate.
Sugar blew me away with service. Titles were 2 days to my city and anytime there was an issue they resolved it same day, be it sending out an additional copy or upgrading the account for the remainder of the month. Sugar was also good about adding new companies and catalog titles from existing companies.
Bush had a catalog only second to Excalibur. IR on DVD is almost impossible to find for anything before 2002. Bush has a solid catalog based on what's availible. When service is good, I got no complaint. If you are a Max Hardcore fan (I'm not) and Bush is your only shoice to get max online, would you leave wen service slipped, or would you become vocal about the service?
This is like dropping the Whopper for a Big Mac, this is about living in a one burger town and getting poor service on occasion.
So hopefully that answers the questions that some of you continue to ponder. I not going to be Kanye and say Bush doesn't care about black people, but like G Dub on the news(in my opinion) the Bush CEO made statements on this forum that didn't jive with the email exchanges I had with customer service.
And speaking of service, a friend of mine spent big money on a THX home theater. The system came with 1 year in home service and replacement. When one of the channels of his reciever blew they came out and swapped the reciever for a Refurb. I told him that he should contact Techniques and the local retailer and demand a new unit per his agreement. He said, it works, no big deal.
To me it's a big deal. He paid top dollar for replacement, not repair. He was okay with it, so that's all that matter, but the company did not deliver. He later changed his mind and Techniques gave him the latest version of that reciever.
Bottom line, service is in the eye of the beholder.
Pocketcomb_Pimp, I am sorry about the "pricks" comment. I got to work this morning and remembered what I wrote last night and was like, oh my god I hope I didn't really say pricks. I wasn't meaning to infer you were a prick or anything, just referring to consumers in general. I can understand your frustration with the only game in town giving you unsatisfactory service. You seem like a nice guy in the rest of the forum, but to me the manner in which you complain about Bush just comes off badly. (By the way, bush doesn't carry Max Hardcore! )
Anyways, something actually about the price increase that is the topic of this thread - Bush, why is it you are charging different amounts for new customers and existing customers? In the past I have supplemented my Bush account with a subscription to Sugar for a few months to get some max hardcore titles. However those lower disc per month plans aren't as good of value per disc as the higher plans. I have been thinking of closing my bush account and going with x-rent for a few months, getting my normal porn but also getting some stuff Bush doesn't carry like the newer Kokeshi titles that have anal/dp in them, titles by Swank digital (Bush doesn't carry any), etc. Then I would close the x-rent, sign up with Sugar for a few months, get some Max Hardcore titles and other more risque titles that neither Bush nor X-rent carries. Then of course go back to bush and resume as normal as Bush is cheaper. However at that point I would be a new customer again, right? I would then be paying 25.95 for the 4 dvd plan. That's only 1 dollar cheaper than Sugar. Sugar ships in individual mailers and is more diligent in adding new releases quickly. That's worth a buck a month to me. Personally I've never had a problem with the service, but with your price so close to sugar's I may find myself not coming back to Bush after I rotate through.
Agreed..service has got much better and I find their selection is better than most. No problems with customer service either. No matter what, it's still much cheaper than my local outlet that charges me $10.75 for 2 rentals for 2 nights. I usually get at least 8 titles a month from Bush on my 4 out subscription. Do the math, it's a much better value.
Jason, thank you for the prompt response and updated information. It is good to know that you won't be raising the prices as much as originally suspected for current members. An extra dollar or two price hike still puts you at a better value than some of your competitors.
Keep up the good work and I look forward to doing continued business with you guys, I'm hitting the one year mark here and I must say that I've been a satisfied customer thus far. Let's hope it stays that way, cheers.
They raised prices again due to the postage rate changes coming next week. Just $1 to $3 depending on the plan. At first glance I thought, wha?, I thought the 2 oz. rate was dropping 5 cents to $0.58 from the old $0.63 then I saw this article:
Yikes, if that first-class 2 oz. rate for flats (a big jump to $0.97) applies to the BushDVD mailers it might be the end of the world as we know it (and I WON'T feel fine!)
I just got this e-mail from them as well, but it looks like they're making up for the difference from last January's rate hike. That is, I joined in '05, and in January '06 they raised rates; but as the thread says, the rates for existing members didn't go as high. Now my rate is going to be the same as folks who joined since Jan '06.
I'm wondering if anyone who's already paying those rates (i.e. $25.95 for the 4-at-a-time) has gotten a rate-hike notification..
The non-machinable surcharge is also going to hit everyone who mails a DVD, so postage is going up for every one of these companies, regardless of package size and shape.
Funny you bump this thread. I only heard good things about BushDVD up until now. I took them up on a trial offer, but it took one full week to get me the first 2 dvds in my queue. Needless to say, I'll just send them back the dvds and cancel service. I thought the companies didn't start throttling until after the trial period. Guess I'm wrong.
Depending on where you are, it does sometimes take up to 4 or 5 days to get your order. I've got some orders in 2 days and some in 5..it all depends. I checked the postmark every time and they were always stamped on the day that Bush said they went out...it's the USPS, not Bush..I'm on the East coast near Philly.
Well, Bush fans, the new rate ends up being $0.75 - I guess the rate for a 2 oz. envelope containing a rigid object as determined on the handy USPS Postage Calculator. It's a hefty 20% increase in postage costs! That's if my 5th grade math skills are correct.
They've dumped the foam inserts and switched to a smaller envelope. I hope my mail lady doesn't figure out what is in these. (I'm sure she knows.)
